We were meeting my fiance’s brother’s girlfriend for the first time, so I wanted to make a good first impression by wearing noticeable but not over-the-top makeup. I just did a soft neutral eye and cheek paired with a really sparkly medium-hued lip. Of course, I only had about ten minutes to do makeup, so that forced the issue to keep it simple!

I was going to NRA instructor training, so I wanted to wear makeup without looking like I was *trying* to be the “prettiest girl in class” or something. I also was going to be outside, mostly. I wore a pastel pink shadow with pastel green in the crease (both shadows from Tokidoki’s Hercolino palette), as well as posie-tint on my cheeks and lips, and black liquid eyeliner. Subtle but pretty.
It’s gonna sound dorky, but my favorite thing lately has been ‘mermaid’ eyes (inspired by xsparkage, as well)…especially since I died my hair red. A little girl told me I looked like Ariel the other day and it totally made my day haha.
@Kristabelle “Under the sea!!!” Love xsparkage and Disney! Nothing dorky about it 🙂
The 1920s sorta. Deep wine colored lips, a touch of blush on the apples of my cheek and heavy mascara. Kinda in love with going thru the decades lately. Thinking about doing a Pan Am inspired look next, then a 70s Biba-inspired look. 😀
@mightyclassy07 I love this idea!!
@Kate MacDonald Thanks! Gotta love having so many decades to work from. Can’t pull off the Twiggy 60s thing though.
My last makeup was yesterday moring for my first exam, so it had to be amazing so that I felt amazing! It wasn’t over the top, sparkly neutrals that took barely any time with Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadows. I also used her Nude Pink blusher and her lipstick Twilight Pink, one of my all-time favourites!
The exam went well I think, so I’m hoping the confidence boost pays off!
Im Bangladeshi, and in Brick Lane, London on 20th May there was an annual Bengali festival that is known as Boyshaki Mela, which celebrates the Bengali New Year. I was going to wear a Red & White Sari which are the colours that Bangladeshis typically wear at the festival, but the only Make up looks i could think resembled bridal-ish looks. Instead on my dads advice, i wore a Green traditional trouser and dress suit, with red lips, just some Gold swept across my lids, a tribute to the Green & Red Bangldeshi flag!
yesterday was my wedding anniversary (I won’t say how many years but it’s something to be proud of in this day and age!) and my husband was taking me somewhere a bit special for dinner. I wanted to look pretty for him and he’s not into really heavily made up looks. So a somewhat neutral eye with smudgey black liner, a soft red lip and Guerlain’s Cruel Gardenia for a pretty glow.
@Mariella Beautiful! And congrats 🙂
I’m loving the Bobbi Brown Miami collection campaign. Don’t have any of the products but I’ve really inspired to create the same summer peachy-bronzey rosegold glow with the products I already have. Soft gold eyes, bronzed skin, peachy cheeks and soft peachy-pink lip. Totally suits my coloring and makes me feel so summery!
Usually it’s a color that Im trying to find new ways to use, like yesterday I was trying Arena with Mulch. Not sure it works well on me.
One day last week, I was feeling very Charlie’s Angels (the original) and wanted to look like Farrah Fawcett. I busted out the bronzer and shiny lip gloss. Loved it!
Mine most recently was for my cousin’s graduation – I wanted to not match my shirt, so none of the many purple shadows I had, and specifically NOT wear light blue (she was graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, WAY too much sky blue all over the place already!). That ruled out my most common quick looks, and I didn’t have much time to finish my makeup, so I ended up with green (UD Mildew) on the lid, brown (UD Smog) in the crease, and a pale matte pink applied lightly to the browbone. I filled in my brows quickly, put on MAC Blushbaby (my go-to easy blush) and wore a plummy-pink sparkly gloss.
The last few looks I’ve done have been shaped by the fact that I’ve started a new job in the natural/ organic products industry, so the emphasis has been on subtlety. Today we’re going to a friend’s birthday party and I’m planning on doing something wild just because I can.
On Thursday I met one of my best male friends and I wanted to look relaxed, because I am busy with moving to another city.
I just wore Studio Fix Powder Foundation, a bit Golden Bronzer (all by MAC), my 2 Burberry eye shadows Rosewood and Midnight Plum as a line, black mascara and Bobbi’s lip shimmer. Simple and I loved the look.
That’s a fascinating question. I’ve been wearing almost no detectable for a week. I’ve kept my foundation, eyes, cheeks and contouring present, but minimal. Why? It’s hot here in Atlanta this time of year, but mostly I like the challenge – create a makeup look that looks like no makeup at all. When my co-worker told me that I looked just fine without makeup, I asked for her to look closer. You shouldn’ve seen her face!
Mine was to get back to wearing makeup after a 1 month hiatus due to illness. Seeing a light touch of makeup (not just cheeks gel and eyebrows) made me feel so good emotionally.
The inspiration was a conversation with my sister about YSL’s old “Paris” perfume ads, the pink roses, and old YSL and Chanel eyeshadow duos or quads that we loved. Both of our favorite ones essentially involved pink, white and grey. So a few days ago, I tried to update that old Chanel quad look: MUFE Aqua cream #6 in pale bubblegum pink sheered out over the lid and blended with an YSL matte dove grey on the outer 1/3 of the lid. A touch of a darker, metallic Chanel grey on the crease and blended in, an YSL shimmery, shiny frosty white as a highlighter near the tear duct, above the crease, and on the bone (mixed with more of the MUFE pink). UD Perversion eyeliner & mascara. It basically went pink, pale dove grey, & dark grey with shiny white & pink all around that. (God, I’m terrible at explaining this.)
I was playing a no-nonsense interrogator in a Star Wars LARP this weekend. So mostly I did neutral and soft brown eyeshadow or a nude eye with heavy liner and nude lips (on the brown side). Simple, but effective.
Most days, my makeup motto is less is more! The last time I wore makeup, I was a member of a wedding party. The dress was black, and I had free will to choose the colors I wore as far as makeup. I wanted to look soft and feminine, as well as noticeably pretty (no one wants to look bad at a wedding! lol) without being over the top. For eye makeup, I choose to do black eyeliner to line the top and bottom lashlines and water line plus mascara. For my cheeks, I used Grape blush by La Femme Blush on Rouge, and for the lips, I used just a touch of MAC’s Creme in Your Coffee lipstick topped with Lovechild lipglass. The look was clearly a hit as I got compliments from several wedding guests (both men and women) as well as from the bride who said I looked phenomenal! If that’s not a compliment, I don’t know what is! =)
