What product was discontinued (or limited edition) this year that you'd love to see again 2017?

I know that MAC has finally (!) released permanent versions of their Extra Dimension Skinfinishes, but I would love to see them add an even fuller line, because I know it would make a lot of people happy!

I would like to see the Modern Mercury Highlighter from the Victoria Beckham line be re-released as many did not get the opportunity to purchase it. It wouldn’t work for me but would for my daughter so would like to have the opportunity to purchase it for her. Other than that I can’t really think of anything that I would want that I didn’t buy when it was available.

Even though I’m trying to put the brakes on my MAC purchases, definately most of their recently axed permanent eyeshadows, specifically, the Matte² formula, too. But also some really great shades like Crystal, Aquadisiac and Nehru.
Even though not from 2016, Lorelei EDES, Solar White and Jealousy Wakes e/s’s , too.
I’m sure I’ll remember other goodies as soon as I shut the light off in a minute!

Nancy, I enjoy the MAC Matte2 so much, they are smooth and blendable. The last time I ordered Blanc Type, they arrived crumbled. That had never happened before. I wonder if MAC has a problem in reproducing the formula. It doesn’t make sense to discontinue a best selling, popular product.

1. MAC Extra Dimension – I’d like to see this line made permanent also – such a great texture and beautiful finish. It’s my all time favorite formula for powder products.

2. MAC Vamplify (gloss) – I saw them on the Goodbyes this morning so ordered a few backups. I prefer the Vamplify formula over any of the lipglasses or glosses in general from MAC because of the pigmentation and texture (it doesn’t have any of the tackiness or glompiness that the lipglasses/dazzleglass/lustreglass have). I like the Cremesheens but they are too sheer. For now, I’ll stick to ColourPop glosses and MAC Patentpolishes.

3. MAC Foiled shadows (from Fairy Whispers January 2015) – I hope they bring these back. I’d love a teal or olive green or silvered green in that formula. I think it’s a great shadow topper and it’s that perfect texture and finish, somewhere between frosty shimmer and glitter that’s not too pigmented nor too sparkly and looked great on it’s own or added dimension to any color with which it was paired.

Estée Lauder x Victoria Beckham Modern Mercury highlighter. I don’t really buy that much limited edition makeup but after reading everywhere how amazing it is, I really wish it was permanent, or hopefully brought back again in the future.
MAC eye shadows in Veluxe finish. I’m not sure if it was discontinued this year (‘rumor’ started many many years ago I recall), but I was still able to grab some of the colors left from various websites in 2016. But almost all of my favorite mac eyeshadows are in this finish, I find them to blend better than mac’s mattes. Still don’t understand why Mac discontinued this finish, along with the pro longwear eyeshadows (but kept the velvet, matte2). What’s the logic?

I actually bought two of the VB Modern Mercury sight unseen and upon receipt, I realized they’re way too dark for my skin tone. I’m a cool porcelain and the Modern Mercury does not do my complexion any favors. There they sit – untouched.
That’ll teach me! I always do my research on purchases but the sales associate called me during the initial pre-sales and I guess I got caught up in the excitement and FOMO was real. LOL!! Merry Christmas! ??

Erica Avatar

Agreed the matte2 formula is so much better than their matte formula. I’d like to see them expand their matte2 formula not get rid of most of it. Also they need to keep their extra dimension line. Why MAC?

Linda Avatar

I hope they never get rid of Veluxe Pearl finish!

I agree, velvet, matte2 and lustre finishes are just so hard to work with. It’s like how Urban Decay seems to always throw in a very glittery non-pigmented shade into most of their palettes.

At the very top of the list would have to be the MAC Matte2 eyeshadows. What idiot decided it would be a good idea to discontinue those? Personally, I’d love to see both Chanel’s Empreinte du desert quad and Dior’s Glowing Pink Glowing Gardens Skin Illuminator (2016 or 15? I’m not sure) brought back or made permanent. Also from MAC, I’d be happy to see those Spellbinder shadows stick around a bit longer.

Erica Avatar

MAC discontinued many staples for me. I’d want them to bring back many of their discontinued eyeshadows like Mystery, Folie, Mylar, Copperplate and their matte2 in general. Plus bring back tenderling blush!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche’s holiday duos — the sparkly ends (e.g, rosegold) that were for holiday only. I wanted to try the E Lauder Modern Mercury highlighter, but didn’t pursue since it was LE let alone almost immediately sold out; would like to give it a try.

Bite Beauty Rose Gold was on my list as well. I called the Bite Beauty lab (here in Toronto) and they said that they have the Rose Gold (as well as Bronze) but it can only be purchased as a custom bullet. I’m contemplating the idea. It’ll be expensive ($40Cdn) but i’m glad to know that the option is there….
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Christine.

Absolutely! Chanel Double Perfection Lumiere is my HG favorite and the newer powder is not as good for me. I have asked for it to be returned. Maybe there’s hope.

Lea Avatar

I may be pushing the this year part, it’s hard to remember exactly when I learned they were discontinuing, but the Armani Flash Lacquers. They’re my favorite formula lipgloss. I’m trying to think of others, but that’s my Chanel Dragon equivalent.

NARS Douceur.

As for LE products, I’d really love to see the L’Oreal bronzers from this past Summer become permanent. Not only is the formula great, but the shades provide a very natural color & glow.

Nell Avatar

NARS Douceur is currently available on their website! Look at their “Pro Palette” section. It is only available in the pan. Good luck ordering, hope you can get it.

Amy H. Avatar

Yes! Bite’s Mauvember was such a gorgeous color. I missed out. I’d love to have a chance to purchase it. If I lived near the lab, I’d do a custom shade.

Lea Avatar

They’re permanent for this full year and then will rotate 25 shades in and out like they have been doing. Some stick around – Julian has been available every year since launch, but i think they determine it by sales for what stays.

Juvon Avatar

I really wanted to try the skinfinishes in the MAC Taraji Henson line before it sold out. It’s a shame they are bringing back Selena’s line but not Taraji’s.

Kylie5 Avatar

Givenchy acti Mine 04 plum
Loreal bb powder for very light skin
The Mac mini lipsticks from the nutcracker sweet collection in more colours
The body shop wonderblur primer

Coils of Love Avatar

I would love for Mac to make Whisper of Gilt permanent and ColouredRaine “Queen of Hearts” eyeshadow palette permanent. Also, the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette permanent.

LaMaitresse Avatar

It was an Anna Sui Mascara that was discontinued about 2 years ago called I think Perfect Mascara, it was amazing, length curl and volume in one coat, major drama in two. The replacements are pretty dismal by comparison.

Mariella Avatar

Oh, the Bonne Etoile 5-pan! I was just looking at it the other day, contemplating using it but I used a Chanel quad instead (not Empreinte du desert, surprisingly). It really was a gorgeous palette and SUCH good quality (not something you can say about Dior’s palettes across the board).

Lydia Avatar

Kat von D Metalmatte. I had been spending a lot on makeup when it was available so I told myself that I didn’t need another eye palette but of course now that it’s sold out I regret not getting it!

Claire L Avatar

Dior Glowing Pink highlighter from the Glowing Gardens collection. Also the Estee Lauder Modern Mercury highlighter, I was lucky enough to nab one but I know others didn’t manage to and it’d be nice if it was released again. Oh and I wish the Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts palette was available here in the UK!

The KVD Metal Matte palette. I got it for Christmas (!), but I don’t know how I’ll survive when it’s used up. And yes, I’m thinking that far ahead because that palette is everything I hoped it would be! I have never seen shadows that blend so perfectly.

KVD Monarch needs to come back as well. I missed that one and it’s right up my alley. And now I’m 100% positive that I like KVD’s eyeshadow formula (Metal Matte is my first KVD palette).

UD needs to keep the vintage collection going a bit longer. If nothing else, Gash (the eyeshadow shade) should be brought back permanently.

Also, I’d like to see the UD Naked gloss in Sesso return, this time as a part of the permanent range. It was only available in Naked on the Run, and I’m literally scraping the sides of the container trying to get every last drop of the stuff (I’m out, for all intents and purposes). I’m not a giant lip gloss fan, but that shade was absolute perfection and great for lazy/running late makeup days.

Lynette Avatar

I wish m.a.c would bring back tendertones and extra dimension blushes. Those were my jam. I just ran out of my last tendertone a few weeks ago and I’m so bummed.

Natalia Avatar

Usually I don’t despair over limited products being discontinued, cause it makes what will be released next more exciting (IMHO), but this year there is actually a lippie that I would repurchase, should it be available. It’s the “Pressed and ready” lipstick from MAC. I find it just perfectly suited for me color and pigmentation wise.

Vee Avatar

Tom Ford “Derek” lippy from the Lips and Boys collection.
It’s the perfect shade for my complexion. I’ve been lusting after it for a long time but couldn’t buy it because TF cosmetics are not available in my country and shipping from Selfridges or Harrods costs as much as the (already overpriced) lipstick. Finally went to London in November and visited ALL the retailers (including the intimidatingly posh TF boutique in Knightsbridge) only to find it had been discontinued mere DAYS before. I was so bummed. 🙁

I know that I’m late to the post, but I so wish they would restock the ABH pallet by Mario – the only place that I’ve seen it is Amazon and it 70+ and I just don’t want to pay that. But I’m sick that I didn’t have the funds to get it when it was out. Just sick!!!! I adore that palette!!!! I want it so bad. It literally makes me sad. If I had the money to spend – Id pay the $70+ for it. 🙁 There just isn’t another one quite like it……. Oh we’ll life of the sad and poor. You are so blessed Christine, good for you. Merry Christmas and have a beautiful new year!!!

High end: Urban Decay Electric Palette. It’s such a unique item and amazing quality. I’m still in shock they DC’d it. I bought a back up, because I was terrified I’d break or lose mine if I didn’t. For LE, I think Urban Decay needs to make Iracebeth lipstick from the Alice TTLG collection permanent. Ditto for MAC with Saucy Little Darling from the Nutcracker Sweet collection, and Kat von D with the Metal Matte Palette.

Drug store: E.l.f. Moisturizing Stick Foundation. It had a great formula and had a shade that worked for me. It was my go-to when I need quick application, but more coverage than a powder foundation.

Anita Avatar

Urban Decay’s single eyeshadow in SWF, and Maybelline Baby Lips in soothing sorbet are the two discontinued things I wish I could get back.
Also I hate the new UD lipstick packaging – they are hard to open and last year’s packaging felt so much sturdier.

Extra Dimension is my favorite formula! I hope they make some with cool undertones. They all seem to be warm shades now. Although, Whisper of Gilt is neutral enough for a pale/pink skin tone! I hope they make that one again, not willing to pay $100-$200 dollars for it, especially when it’s obviously been used.
