I received a sample size bottle of the new MUFE HD foundation as a points reward at Sephora, and I love it. I went back and purchased a full-size bottle, and also the stick version. The coverage is not too heavy, but you can build it up as much as you want. Plus, it lasts all day, even in heat and humidity.

Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial….I had used this as my night cream and I went through about 3/4 jars when they decided brilliantly (debatable) to change the formula. The new formula no longer suited my skin and launched me into a phase of finding a suitable replacement that did not have react every five seconds.

Vi Avatar

It’s around the same time they changed packaging. If it still works for you, go for it. I just feel it changed for my skin or maybe my skin no longer likes it. :/

Years ago, Dior re-vamped their Dior Addict Lipgloss line and they killed it imo. They used to have a ton of dazzling shades with good pigmentation and stunning finishes (some had a slight duochrome effect), and replaced it with a range of boring nudes and pinks with the occasional deeper color, all with a much sheerer finish. If you were into Dior in the mid 2000s you might remember them!
I’m also not too happy about their most recent eyeshadow quint reformulation that happened last year, and the same is true with Guerlain (I think the older Ecrin 4 Couleurs were better than the newer ones that have embossed pans).

My favorite DS brand Nyx revamped all their eyeshadow singles and smaller palettes ( 3, 5 and 10 pan ones ) a few years ago, and honestly? I do not like the new formula as much at all. The older ones of which I thankfully still have a huge stash of, were much better quality for most of the shades, now they seem crumbley or just off. The only real issue I ever had with the old formula was slight variations in a shade that would sometimes crop up.

Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Soap. The Sea Mud Soap literally saved my skin about four or five years ago and I was so happy to have found it. I had little to no acne and my skin tone improved profoundly. For some bizarre reason, the new owners decided to fiddle with the ingredients and started using charcoal powder instead of actual charcoal. They also did away with the dish ( but brought it back at some point, presumably because people complained). I suppose they did it as a cost cutting measure but they sure didn’t drop the price of the soap!

Now the once great soap has a weird texture and leaves a black film on your sink and skin. Why “fix” something that ain’t broke?

It’s going to sound insignificant, but Nivea’s Kiss of Cherry was once my favorite lip product of all time (perfect flavor, color, consistency, performance, price). Now it’s a thin, sad, shiny, shimmery echo of the HG it once was. RIP, Nivea Kiss of Cherry.

I used to wear the estee lauder double wear liquid foundation like 6 or 7 years ago and i loved it, the coverage was perfect, the feel on my skin, full coverage but still comftable and color match was perfect for me, now that they reformulated it doesnt feel de same, it doesnt last as long and the color match for me is 2W2 rattan which looks like a mustard color in my hand 😛

BRV Avatar

I know! The EL Double Wear liquid foundation, concealer, and pressed powder foundation were all reformulated and now they are horrible! No staying power, terrible colors and they feel greasy on the skin. I have yet to find anything as good as the original EL Double Wear.

Thu Avatar

Yes! I thought it was just me! When they re-released their line, it’s like everything got a little bit TOO creamy or something. They’re still my favorite pencil liner, but I reach for them less often because of this.

SSC Avatar

They’re terrible since the reformulation. I LOVE the Velvet pencils- the texture is a lot more like the old formula liners. Sadly, not as many cool colors to choose from there…

Jodi Avatar

All gel and long wearing pencil eye liners that now contain cyclopentasiloxane. I know they are supposed to make the liners wear longer but they don’t on me. So annoying. I think liquid and kohl liners are the only liners that are left w/o cyclopentasiloxane. Kohls smudge horribly because I have oily skin and liquid is too harsh. Guess I’ll get use to no eyeliner. I’m thinking of all the $$ I’ll save. 😉

I’m not sure if this officially counts, but it’s the only formulation change I’ve ever experienced.

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra line is my favorite foundation of all time. When I had first bought the product, it was being sold in its narrow, oblong-shaped bottle and it was simply named “Teint Idole Ultra [14-Hour Retouch-Free]”; even the shades had a different name (e.g. Bisque 9W). This formulation was perfect!! It spread like butter. I used to apply this foundation with a stippling brush and it would create the most jaw dropping, airbrushed effect. I never needed another tool (i.e. Beauty Blender) to make the foundation appear “skin-like”.

A couple of years ago, Lancôme decided to revamp the foundation. The new and current design is in the angled, rectangular-shaped bottle with the name “Teint Idole Ultra 24H Makeup”; and new shades. When it was released, new users were going absolutely crazy over this formula, while previous users complained about its change. I was hesitant at first, but I bought the “new” foundation to see if the difference was drastic. The coverage of the foundation was still the same, but the application changed. I could no longer use only a stippling brush to apply it. In fact, I couldn’t use a stippling brush at all, because it created streaks in the finish. I now use either a flat top brush or a Beauty Blender. These are the only tools that allow the current formula to apply evenly to my skin. I’ve also found that I have to retouch my makeup more throughout the day compared to the old formula. These changes are fine by me, but the ONLY thing I dislike about this current formulation is the lack of a warm shade for my skin tone. Although Lancôme boasts an extensive shade range, they seem to have missed the mark for individuals in the NC44-NC45 bracket. A shade “440 Suede W” is missing from the line. NC44-NC45s get pushed into choosing either “450 Suede N” or “460 Suede W”, which are both a touch too dark. The next lighter warm shade is “410 Bisque W”, which is way too pale. I miss shade “Bisque 9W”; it was just right.

I’m still in love with Lancôme’s Teint Idole Ultra line, but not as much as I had been in the past. It’s still my favorite foundation (that finish is undeniable!), despite the shade being a little off (I use the 460 shade on the outer perimeter of my face). I used to wear the foundation everyday, but now it’s only reserved for certain occasions. Breaks my heart, though. ?

Kai Avatar

Wow, that’s exactly how I feel. I thought I was the only one disappointed in the shades compared to the old formula. The range is extensive but not as accurate as the old formula. I’m a woc too and a lil darker than u, I’m in between a 450-460. I’ve never had issues like this in finding my shade and I’m not buying 2. ????. I miss my suede 2!

Momo Avatar

Awwwwww. Someone else who feels my pain. ??. I really wish they would bring the old line back and keep it on the side for all of us who loved it… but that’s just wishful thinking.

Nyx blush in “taupe”. It’s sooo stiff now! Hardly any product can be picked up on my brush. It used to be very creamy & non-powdery. Huge disappointment.

Labello / Nivea Hydro Care lip balm… they reformulate this thing each and every time with the packaging changes… once, it healed not even crazy winter chapped lips but the dry skin all around my mouth… last time I tried it it was just sucking the moisture out of my lips…

Ciara Avatar

Bareminerals Mineral Foundation and Veils. The minute they started using silica in the reformulation it became flashback city and Casper The Friendly Ghost face in photos. So sad because it just looked flawless on my skin in natural light and made my skin actually look and feel better without makeup.

Genevieve Avatar

Dior – bring back the great Bonne Etoile days
Guerlain – their original Les Gris/ Les Aqua 4 pan palettes were sensational. Now the newer ones are mediocre.
Stila – their In the Garden, In the Light and In the Moment palettes were the best thing since sliced bread, but their newer offering have been a complete fizz.

Revlon’s Color Stay Foundation. It used to be amazing but they changed it and I couldn’t wear ur anymore. It would slide off my face, it no longer covered my skin imperfections. Just terrible.

Chanel Essentiel SPF 50 was my go to for years. It was a lightweight moisturizer, primer, and SPF (suitable for sensitive skin) all rolled into one product. Loved it! Then came the great reformulation and my rosacea prone skin could no longer tolerate it. The first time I tried it, I broke out in a terrible rash.

Judy H. Avatar

Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple. After the formula was changed, it burned my face and gave me a rash. I returned that bottle thinking it was a bad batch. They sent me a new bottle and it did exactly the same thing. I called Philosophy and the woman I talked to told me the formula had not been changed. I still had my old bottle and compared the ingredients, indeed the formula had changed! I had used a few skin care products from Philosophy at the time. I boxed all of them up , sent them back and only asked for my refund on the Purity Made Simple. I told them they could pitch rest of their for me as I didn’t want to do business or use the products from such a dishonest company.

Maybe it’s just me or it’s because I got a bad sample, but Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. I was so excited for the tubes but it’s dry and seems to act funny with my concealer, creating a dry spot in the inner corner and a dry line where the primer was applied. It’s so weird. I just hate the consistency and the way it creates the dry spots! I liked the old, thin and creamy formula better. Oh well, I at least save like $13 buying Wet n Wild’s primer that I don’t have issues with.

Tarte eyeshadows. The older ones were really creamy and I’m wondering if they did something because the newer palette shadows are powdery and kick up a lot of “dust” when I put my brush in the pan and also when I try to apply them to my eyelid.

Monica Avatar

Sadly, Sephora’s Lip Stains. There’s something off about the new formula, plus, and most tragically, they discontinued one of my favorite colors, dark berry 🙁

Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation! It used to be my favorite foundation for special occasions and photos, but the reformulated version’s texture is more watery, doesn’t work well for me, and shades are different too 🙁

Megz Avatar

This is going way back to 2007 or so, but I used to adore Stila’s whole line until it changed hands and were never quite the same after, even though there have been good products introduced and even some improvements (just say no to cardboard packaging!) I just can’t find the same excitement I used to have 🙁

Rosie Avatar

This isn’t makeup, it’s a fragrance… but I loved the Crabtree & Evelyn – Evelyn Rose eau de toilette! It was such a lovely light rosy scent. They changed the formulation but it smells so artificial now 🙁 Gutted because it was my go-to!

Kai Avatar

Lancôme tient idole foundation. Been wearing it for years, when it went to the 24 formula, I’ve been having an issue with my shade. I’ve never had an issue with finding my shade. Not feelin paying $100 to mix two shades.

I always feel like a conspiracy theorist when I mentioned this, but UDPP completely stopped working for me when they went from the genie bottle original packaging to the tube. I LOVED that they went to a tube– and then was terribly disappointed when it didn’t perform the same way anymore. Haven’t used it since and have never found anything that I liked as much as the OG UDPP/

Laura Avatar

Dior shadows and Lancome shadows used to be much better. I remember when I was a teenager Lancome shadows were richly pigmented and so nice, and now they just dust off, don’t stick and take too much building and fade quickly. Dior shadows have gone through several reformulations, but nothing beats the old formula of Beige Massai. They take too much building now.
