We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Anything that’s too dark, non-traditional colors and duochrome finishes. Crazy highlighters were a big trend a few years back that I 100% regret dabbling in!

I’m not a fan of gold or yellow highlights… they don’t suit my skin tone. Or bronze, just because they’re too dark. I’m on board with almost anything else.

I pass by highlighters with a base color. I’m super fair and anything besides white or silvery highlighters just look like smears of color or dirt on my face. It’s a bummer because sooooo many highlighters have pinky, beigey, orangey, etc… base color to them that may not be obvious on skin tones just a few shades darker than mine.

Anything that doesn’t mesh well with my medium golden olive skintone. This includes icy pinks, blues, silvers, or purples, in particular. They look very harsh on me and extremely unnatural. Yet I can wear KVD Sapphire or Emerald from that old triangle shaped Palette without it looking ridiculous, because it’s a “warm” blue and green. And just like I don’t look good in cool, icier tones, I don’t always do well in extremely warm tones, either. For instance, a super yellow gold like Fenty Trophy Wife would only make me look sickly and jaundiced.

Really coppery ones. On people with the right skintone, they look amazing! On me they would look weird. Same with really yellow golds. Even a white gold or a champagne gold is a stretch for me, but I can make them work 😉

I prefer what you avoid, haha. A really pale champagne is ideal. It just works best on my pale skin. I want to like a white base, but so often there’s a strong (on me) duochrome effect and that’s something I try to avoid. I don’t really want my skin gleaming bright blue or a vampy red on a daily basis. It’s not that I don’t like the look of it, it just doesn’t work for my daily life.

Matte shades, subtle shades and beiges that are close to my skin tone, and any shades with chunky glitter. Shades that are too dark for my pale skin, such as bronzes and coppers. Strong yellow-based golds (they make me look jaundiced).
