What gets you excited about a new eyeshadow palette release?
I love an interesting, cohesive color story – interesting doesn’t have to be 20 shades of bright colors, but it needs to offer a good mix of undertones, finishes, and depths in a way the brand hasn’t before.
I’ll probably get really excited if it looks like just about every other eyeshadow palette I already own! Seriously – I have little use for pastels or neon brights as I rarely wear them, so an interesting neutral palette is something that sets my heart racing…something like the earlier Pat McGrath Sith Seduction palette you reviewed, except for that very orange shade in it. But the dark blue and the blackened olive are the sorts of “colours” that I love mixed in with more neutral colours. I don’t like pastels and shades of baby blue, pale violet along with all the oranges and reds that seem to proliferate these days are not for me. I’m tempted by that Sith Seduction palette though!
Yes, that palette has sorely tempted me as well. I’m with you Mariella – no neons, pastels or overly ‘bright’ shades. A good set of neutrals, with a blue, olive green and gold thrown in for good measure has me every time.
I look at something like that new palette from Colour Pop – Winx Just Magic (or something like that) and my personal reaction is “ugh…who would use something like that?” – no judgment intended but it’s so the opposite of something I would want, use, covet… But my heart races over every single version of the original Naked palette or that lovely new Sith Seduction…stuff like that and I just sit up and take notice! You and I are so similar in our tastes in this way!
Numero uno; something that I will actually wear and enjoy using! The quality has to be there. The color scheme has to both cohesive and something that will work with my coloring, especially my eye color. And yet, I do also love to step out of my comfort zone of purples/plums, coppers/rose-golds, greens, taupes/browns/bronzes, too, every once in awhile.
I get excited over a new release when it’s from a top notch brand and has all the shades in it that I love – which means the ones that suit me the most. Better still, is when it is affordable and accessible. It has to have a great rating from you Christine too.
Interesting colors and finishes, and of course good quality. Extra credit for pretty or cool packaging.
When it’s wearable but with a fresh take / interesting twist. Same as many other readers have commented, I am intimidated by bright colors and impactful pastels. Then again, I’m bored by neutrals-only. So a palette that combines neutrals with soft, muted colors that make for a beautiful day-time appropriate look is what makes me want to add it to my collection.
