Cream Blush

I love the finish of them; that dewy, slightly luminous look that sits well on skin. The only issue I have is some formulas don’t pair as well with base products, so they aren’t as foolproof to work with.

Love: That I can apply it either directly from the tube or with fingertips. Tends to have a more skin-like finish to them.

Hate: That they can lift my base products if I’m not careful or if the formula is too “greasy”. They don’t have the best wear time compared to powder usually.

I just don’t use them. πŸ˜†
I tried cream blush, bronzer and contour products and I simply couldn’t make them work in my routine. They simply don’t layer well with the types of foundations I like, and I don’t find them to go well in my routine since I always like to set my foundation and concealer with powder completely. I also never seem to make them blend well and look nice, so I gave up. I also don’t like a dewy, slightly luminous look; people say my opinion will change with age… but I’m getting older and still like the natural-matte look of powders.
But I can’t say I hate something about them… they just don’t work for me so I ignore them.

I only have a few cream blushes and while I like them, especially as I’m getting older and my skin is drier, but as Christine said, they can be a bit trickier to use. I do find powder blush so much more easy.

Same here. I love the skinlike, dewy finish and naturally flushed look, I almost exclusively wear only cream/liquid/gel blush now. My utmost favourite formula is Kjaer Weis for cream and NARS for liquid. They blend amazingly on both plain moisturised skin and over foundation, even over powdered skin. And they last the entire day.

I also like Rituel de Fille for cream and Chantecaille Lip-Cheek Gelee and Glossier Cloud Paint, but not as much as the first two mentioned. Glossier has gorgeous colors but I just cannot make them last on my skin.

Like Ana Maria above, I just don’t use them because I don’t like the creamy finish. I think that I would end up looking like a clown.
The CP ones do look good value and they have rated well, so I think the for those interested in cream blushes can invest in some excellent ones from the brand.

LOVE: How soft and natural they look. How easy they are to use. Usually, you can just use your fingers to apply.

HATE: Many formulas don’t last on oily skin. They can be over-emollient and underpigmented. They have a shorter shelf-life than powders. They can lift foundation and powder. There’s not as much color variety as with powders.

I’m not keen on cream blushes as I find them harder to apply than a powder compact blush. Application is iffy with the cream, the blush looks deeper at the beginning since even light application raises blood to the surface, then it looks washed out later due to product wearing off and skin returning to normal. I’ve given up on all of them. Powder compact blush is so easy and perfect every time, wears well due to blending with the moisturizer and foundation underneath it.

I use cream blush regularly. They look more natural on my skin and all the ones in my collection are easy to blend and last all day. There are some duds though and sometimes the only way to know is to buy and try. I value the natural looking finish above all else so getting a cream blush with shimmer that shows up when blending is a no go for me, that is just personal preference though. I prefer blushes that dry down and don’t leave a tacky finish but that isn’t necessarily a deal breaker. My dream would be that all blushes would come in cream, liquid and powder form so I could decide which formula I wanted in each shade that I wanted!

Love: Almost everything; the control in application; multi-stick concepts for applying to lips/eyes as well; the way they support the ‘reverse foundation’ technique (applying all face/cheek products in cream or liquid form before foundation.) Some have terrific packaging that travels well and dispenses just the right amount of product.

Hate is a strong word; too many stick blushes need more stabilizers to work within their packaging than is helpful in gliding/applying easily with the fingertips or a brush. I don’t want to have to ‘warm up’ a solid cream product when I’m getting ready for work. Plenty of products don’t have this issue, but it makes me wary of trying solid cream blushes, until I know for sure they can handle a cool hotel room overnight stay without turning into a brick.

Love: It gives my cheeks an extra glow, especially since I usually wear cream blush on minimal makeup days. I’m finding I get the most compliments on my skin on those days as well.

Hate: Super minor thing, but when I blend my cream products out with my fingertips and I hate that there’s always some leftover makeup on them (foundation, extra blush/highlighter, etc) and I have to wipe them off. I could use a brush but it doesn’t give the same effect of that melted into the skin look that I love so much. Oh what we do for makeup!

I love cream blush! I love how natural and dewy it makes my skin look. I find that I dislike the look of powder on my skin more and more the older I get. Cream blush has been a huge discovery for me the past couple of years.

That said, some formulas can lift up my base products if they don’t blend easily enough or set too fast or are too oily.
