What cheek product wasn't worth the splurge?

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzers were so bad for me! It was such a dry product that made my skin look absolutely parched in a way that I have rarely seen with a powder product!

I’ve been pretty darned lucky when it comes to cheek products and recently, I’ve picked up several from Becca and Kevyn Aucoin at greatly reduced prices at Winners. I think the last product that disappointed me (and it wasn’t expensive enough to be considered a “splurge”) was MAC Early Morning Mineralize Blush. It got such a high rating and high praise from Christine that I didn’t stop to think that it just might be way too warm and orange for me. It has the most glorious finish (I so wish I’d got its cooler toned “sister” instead) but is such an unnatural looking colour for me.

I bought a Guerlain bronzer bc I always wanted to try. I like it but I can only use is sparingly bc it’s so fragranced it can break me out if I use it too much. The packaging is kinda of cheap too. For the price it’s not as nice as I hoped

I think I research expensive blushes more than average products because it really has to be something special for me to pick it up – so I’ve been very lucky with the more spluge-worthy blushes I’ve picked up. Highlighters have been a bigger disappointment though.

The cheek product I’m still mad about though is the Stila Mystere face gloss. I found it to be dry with chunky glitter and just made me look like I had dirt on my face. I spent weeks debating on whether to get it and trying to talk myself out of it and I finally gave in and regretted it.

Oh, and this is definitely heading into splurge territory…I picked up the Bobbi Brown highlighter in Pink Glow after reading multiple raves about it and I didn’t have a pink highlighter yet. I realize you take a risk with marbelized products but mine is almost exclusively copper/bronze and looks brown on me that I wondered if I accidentally picked up the wrong product or got a mislabeled one. The finish on it also didn’t make it worth the price tag, either. It’s not a bad product, but it didn’t live up to the expectations I had set for it to make it worth it.

Nars Banc de Sable HL trio. What was I thinking? 3 shades of gold highlighter? I think the question was a intended to elicit the product that did not hit it on bang for the buck. Well, I guess anything that leaves you scratching your head was $ poorly spent. Seems like it’s Mea Culpa Day for me…..

I’ve been pretty lucky overall, but the one product that seemed to get rave reviews and I never reach for because it’s just not as good (as creamy and pigmented) as others I have is Fenty Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer.

My most recent disappointment was the highly raved Patrick Ta Major Sculpt cream contour and powder bronzer duo. I had such high hopes for this product since I love his duo blush formula so much. Unfortunately the medium shade barely shows up on my cheek.

Speaking of bronzers, I watch a youtube video with Jamie Paige where she applies a non-makeup makeup look, and she used the Kosas Cloud Setting Powder in the shade “Softly” (her skin tone is light to medium.) It looked so soft and naturally beautiful. I went ahead and purchased the same during the Sephora VIB sale and I must say I am truly in love with the outcome! There is NOTHING in my bronzer collection that gives me such a soft, buildable, natural-looking warm look to my face. I highly recommend checking out that powder, not only as a regular powder which I also purchased in my shade but as a bronzer as well. I think it’s worth the investment. I can see myself using this “bronzer” all year round!!
