What are three products that you're always excited to wear?
I love, love, LOVE molten, melting kind of metallic eyeshadows, which is partially why I have such an affinity to Pat McGrath’s Decadence (I hope that by constantly bringing it up, the Powers That Be will make it permanent, okay???).
I love playing with Sydney Grace eyeshadows because the range is consistent (!!) and massive, so it’s a great way for me to stretch my creative muscles to find something to do (rather than rely on pre-made palettes).
I love blush with contrasting shimmer (like Dior Hologlam, Natasha Denona Pink Champagne, Sydney Grace Paris Skies), and I just go “Oooohhh!!!!” when I apply them to my face.
1. Red or darker berry lipstick (favorites: Chanel Pirate and Laura Mercier Boudoir)
2. YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in the shade I’m the Trouble (cobalt blue). I don’t wear it often, but it is so much fun!
3. Thinking a little outside the box, my third answer is fragrance.
I like your thinking outside the box… next step in my quarantine un-mojo for me (besides wearing make-up and `work` clothing every work day) needs to be putting on fragrance in doors . 😆
I haven’t worn makeup in weeks, which is shocking for me because I’ve been wearing makeup almost every day since I was a teenager. But I do spray on fragrance every day. I guess it’s because I can’t see the makeup on my face so I doesn’t bother me unless I catch a glimpse in the mirror, but perfume is there for me to enjoy all the time.
Chanel Bronzer Soliel Tan de Chanel. Sad that those who haven’t yet tried it won’t experience its magicalness bc it’s has been reformulated. Sad
Lancome Blush Subtil in Miel Glace. Just the perfect blush. Makes me feel pretty and elegant
MAC Hug Me. Basically any warm terracotta nudes. They just are so me and I love them every time I wear them!
I love Sydney Grace/Natasha Denona/Pat McGrath eyeshadows. They always work really well for me, I know that if I use them that they won’t crease until at least the 10 hour mark for me. I need eyeshadow that can withstand my oily, hooded lids and these three brands always perform consistently well for me.
I also love using my Missha M Perfect Cover BB cream. I’ve tried a lot of different BB creams, tinted moisturizer, and foundations… but this one is the only one that seems to work really well with my oily dehydration prone skin. I have a lot of skin texture/large pores and it doesn’t sit in them and make that lovely polka dot effect so many foundations do.
I love highlighter even though I probably shouldn’t use it. My favorite one is Marc Jacobs Worth the Wait. It literally goes with everything and for some reason doesn’t emphasize texture on me. The pan is huge so I’m pretty much set on it until at least 2040 ?
Potted eyeshadow (e.g. hourglass scattered light, tarte foils), very moisturizing tinted lip balm and hourglass face powders 🙂
1. Deep red lipstick. I wish I hadn’t been afraid for so long to wear bold lipstick!
2. Pat McGrath lust glosses
3. Sultry-beachy-summery looks – they remind me of home in California 🙂
1. Sydney Grace Paris Skies
2. Natasha Denona Super Glow. I find it special, not in terms of colour, but in terms of how a little goes a long way and melds into my skin.
3. iT Cosmetics CC cream. I’m on the cusp of that time where I prefer CC over foundation because I prefer to layer it over sunscreen rather than foundation. The shades are not perfect, but not as bad for me with my hint of green as for some. I still love the way they it makes my skin look dewy and healthy.
Oh, Super Glow is LOVELY. I’m working on the one that is her mini Blush and Glow right now; it’s a joy to use.
1.) Like yourself, I also love molten metal eyeshadows! Certain specific ones come to mind immediately: Chanel Empriente du Desert, PML Decadence Mothership. They just look so stinkin’ pretty!
2.) A perfect pillowy nude lip! I’m not referring to concealer lips, but something that is still nude: PML She’s Heaven Luxetrance, MAC Marque or UD Liar. With some liner for definition and gloss for pout factor!
3.) Tom Ford Black Orchid perfume! Too bad I can’t wear it more often because it is a strong one. However, it smells divine!
UD Liar was the first nude I bought, the first one I liked that didn’t make me look like a zombie. I tried it and walked around the store, asking people if it looked nice, pretty or awful 🙂
No one said awful and I liked it so I bought it. I don’t use nudes a lot but sometimes I do very smokey eyes and crave a nude lip. (Sometimes I do all in with smokey eyes and a dark lipstick, just for fun.)
I love a really dimensional duo chrome, one that you can really see shift even while it’s on your eyes.
I love using Natasha Denona’s matte shadows; her Safari palette is my favorite palette ever. They blend so beautifully and flawlessly.
I love a beautiful satin lipstick. Bite Beauty’s lipsticks are one, and I’ve recently fallen in love with the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the cream formula. So gorgeous!
Can we start with… bold lipsticks? I’m always excited to put on a bold color, either if it’s a dark burgundy or a grungy greyish-brown.
Otherwise, I don’t really get that excited. Maybe sometimes is the excitement of trying a new product or playing with a new eyeshadow combination. I do like / enjoy doing make-up, I do it almost everyday even in quarantine… but excitement is quite an overstretch.
1 – Glittery duochrome eye shadows!! Most of mine come from smaller indie brands.
2 – theBalm MaryLou Manizer. Maybe because it was my first favorite highlighter and I’ve used it for years.
3 – Bold dark red lips. Usually because I wear them for special occasions!
Yes!! Glittery duo/multichromes have to be my favorite category of all time. I’m waiting on a Clionadh order with some of their new Stained Glass shadows and I’m so damn excited. Though not an indie brand, Pat McGrath also has some incredible glittery shadows that make me swoon.
1) Blush. It wakes up my face and makes me happy!
2) Highlight. Nothing blinding, something natural but glowy to keep me looking youthful.
3) Fragrance. I have my “signature scents” that are pretty much seasonal but very much part of me.
This is after basically never wearing lipstick for years :
1. Bold red lipstick — Revlon Cherries in the Snow
2. PAT McGRATH eyeshadow — Mothership 2 Sublime
3. Eyeliner — Smashbox black powder
I wore the lipstick to a poker tournament in the fall and definitely felt more confident. I used to be excited about fragrance ( Black Opium) but a family member now has a rare allergic disorder so no fragranced anything anymore.
The three beauty products that I am most excited to wear are:
Lipsticks – they just add so much colour to my face and I love all the shades I have.
Eyeshadows: like you Christine, I love metallic eyeshadows too. Doing my ‘palette’ a day challenge to keep me beauty occupied at the moment has got me using all kinds of eye palettes that I have.
Foundation: because it evens out my skin tones and gives me a lovely base on which to use my blush.
Colored mascaras, red or pink lipsticks (tonight’s is Chanel Infrarose). The third, and more specific, is Marc Jacobs Enamored lip glosses.
1. Duo- and multi-chrome anything. I love how dynamic they are. They’re magic you can wear on your skin.
2. Purple eyeshadows. The more intense and saturated, the better. They’re gorgeous, and I love how purples make my eyes look really green.
3. Alternative colored lipsticks. I adore lipstick, period. It’s amazing to have more options, and more creativity with lip colors. I think society’s “rules” about what makes makeup pretty, or classy, or normal, are absurd. (Not to mention the notion that women should only want to look pretty, classy, or normal.) Black lipstick can’t look pretty? Wrong. Olive lips can’t look sexy? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Blue lipstick can’t look classy? Hold my beer.
I really dislike rules about makeup!
I have had long, long discussions with some of my friends on FB, and then their friends jump in and the consensus seems to be that women use makeup to fool men into loving and them and then to get married. I have protested and argued my point, but I had to give up.
The one colour of lipstick I don’t like on my lips is green, but I keep dreaming of and lusting for Bite Kale, I think that particular green would be dark and saturated enough. One day they might start shipping to Europe, I hope.
I once tried a green lipstick from Nyx at their counter, and I bought it though I didn’t love it, I then went on my day of shopping wearing it, I did get a few looks of curiousity and hm, what? but no one seemed to care. This was before I moved to the countryside, now I think they even react to purple 🙂
Sorry for my long post, it’s just that I totally agree and don’t know anyone outside the internet world who thinks like this.
I also adore purple eye shadows, with some other colours my eyes are grey, with purples and reds they are green.
OK, going to write my own answers now.
Kale is a great green for those who don’t feel other greens work on them. The fact that it’s blackened makes it cooler-toned, and it reads vampy rather than, “See me? Green, green, green, green, green!”
I don’t think people who love wearing neutrals — or no makeup at all — are boring or lack imagination. Why do so many of them look at bright or alternatively colored makeup and say, “Makeup should be pretty,” (Well, excuse me, I think blue lipstick and green highlighter IS pretty) or ” I don’t want to look like a clown or a Halloween costume?” Don’t wear the products, but don’t dismiss us who do as attention seekers or lacking in taste, class, or intelligence.
Symptoms of a controlled, conformative, misogynist society IMHO, but I’ll get off my soapbox now. And I’ll fight to the death for everyone’s right to wear nothing but clear lip balm on their face.
1. When my Saturday night eyeshadow looks like a shimmery copper sunset
2. My burgundy wine matte lip
3. Nirvana Black by Elizabeth & James
You know, the more you talk about “Decadence” the more I would like to try it. But I am one of those birds that, like we discussed quite some time ago, is turned off by naming conventions that certain brands use, so I don’t use quite a bit of her stuff due to that. I’m the type that will actually paint over the names if they bother me too much even later (as at first I may not notice). I know, it doesn’t change having supported the brand, though over the years I support brands that do so less.
Okay, getting back on topic…PMG Labs foundation, Estee Lauder’s DW Nude Water Fresh or one of my other more haute gamme foundations that work well are products that excite me a bit when I put them on. Definitely eye shadow! The brand doesn’t matter as much as the result! If I create a beautiful look, similar to the one you have here, which is stunning! Last, anything that sparkles, shimmers and has a translucent, luminescent quality (e.g. stunning lipgloss or eye shadows).
1. Armani Eye Tints in Cold Copper
2. CT Eyes to Mesmerize in Jean
3. ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Wattles
Christine! If you like molten foil eyeshadow you really need to try an indie brand called “give me glow cosmetics”! I’ve recently bought a ton of their single eyeshadows and their fouls are such an amazing texture, I like them even better than the Pat McGrath eyedols.
I love Give Me Glow shimmers… I just wish they had smaller pans! Have you tried JD Glow? Those are also pretty intense.
Lipsticks! All kinds all sort of colours. I love true reds, cool reds, purples and dark berry and wine. I love shimmery lipsticks, I love unusual colours. OK. I love lipsticks! They make or break a look, they can illuminate the whole face, I think they makes my life come alive more than any other makeup product.
Eyeshadows, it can be the prefect shimmer, but also a good easily diffused matte, I guess I should chose, so a really good shimmer that melts onto the lids and into the other shades worn.
I like all makeup products for the face, eyes and lips but I’m going with nail polish, maybe because I see may hands a lot and seeing my nails with polish on makes me glad.
I have noticed, watching some you tube videos (sewing and hair styling) that I look a lot at the nails and what polish they have on. I watched Gertie, and she has quite pointy nails, I was so envious because I can’t have pointy nails, they just break if I try.
I also really like doing my nails in vintage styles, with the bare half moon.
OK, my ranting about makeup and nail polish is over.
Keep safe you all!
Lip oils, lip oils, and lip oils.
Especially now when I’m not wearing any makeup. Love the way they feel, love that they leave my lips feeling better, not worse, love that they can be barely-there or so bright I have to tone them down with a shimmery topper (like one of Temptalia’s faves, GA Luce).
Oh, and love that they seem to be lip AND CHEEK oils in a lot of cases!
I’ve been working on my eyeshadow technique, also highlighters and bronzers. Sydney Grace is my new found love, joining Viseart, Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona, and Tom Ford as tops in my list of favorites. Blushes used to be one of those “oh I have to put on a blush” without there being any real joy or excitement in the application or process. Now I’m playing with highlighters and having a blast with them…
