Petit Pro (03)

Viseart Petit Pro (03) Petit Pro Palette ($30.00 for 0.28 oz.) contains four matte shades and four shimmery shades from pink to green. I liked the color scheme and found it worked together and should yield a few different combos at least. The quality was a little all over the place with so-so to fantastic shades, though I expect those who prefer their matte eyeshadows to be more buildable or use primer underneath their eyeshadows to will find it performs well enough. It was a little underwhelming given the high expectations of the Viseart line, though.

Morganite

Morganite is a soft pink with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that had enough substance to it not to sheer out but still blend out nicely along the edges on the lid. The eyeshadow wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Formula Overview

-

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Caramel

Caramel is soft mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was powdery and kicked up some product in the pan, but it was very blendable on my lid. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Jasper

Jasper is a muted, medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with two to three layers. It applied lighter and more subdued in practice than it appeared in the pan. The texture was soft to the touch but dusty and more to fallout during application if I wasn’t careful to tap away excess. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Beryl

Beryl is a blackened green with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It seemed to pick up the natural sheen of my skin a little more than most of Viseart’s matte eyeshadows do. The texture was drier and stiffer in the pan, but it was still fairly blendable and pigmented (semi-opaque, buildable). The color wore well for eight hours on me.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a light pinkk with strong, warm undertones and a pearly shene. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin. The eyeshadow felt smooth to the touch and wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan. It was easy to apply and blend out on my lid. I noticed slight fading after wearing this shade for eight hours.

Framboise

Framboise is a medium-dark, rosy plum with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency felt smooth and more silicone-heavy, so it had noticeable slip and felt creamy, but the color itself didn’t bind together as well as I expected. It needed to be pressed and patted to really adhere and appear even on the lid, or else used with a wet brush, which helped bind everything together better from the get-go. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Ambre

Ambre is a medium, caramel brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It wasn’t as shiny as some metallic finishes, which made it more flattering on the lid as it just had a really smooth, reflective sheen. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented and had a smooth, soft, and blendable consistency that was easy to work with. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

Why am I getting a sinking feeling that Viseart is going down that road of unpredictability that MAC and UD are on?
Their quality had ALWAYS been predictably very good to excellent up until very recently. As in, I don’t find Tryst to be as wonderful as all 4 of my Theory palettes. This Petite Pro 3 has me worried.
The one upside? At least this pale khaki toned green has no glitter! Love my Absinthe, but the SIZE of the glitter in that shade always gives me pause before using it.

Elisa Avatar

I’m sorry it’s only a B rate but in any case Ilove the colour selection!!Finally a really original colour scheme! And i like the look you created with it!

LindaP Avatar

My beloved Viseart is falling down on the job. I know exactly what Christine means about the “all over the place” quality. The Absinthe palette stunned me at the poor quality of the shimmers and the outrageously stupid, unusable gold glitter shade.

I got burned and a brand I once relied on I no longer go in trusting. That’s too bad.

Matthew C Avatar

I love vise art, but feel that their metallic formula is mediocre. I’ve loved their mattes (even the one Christine isn’t too fond of), but it just seems that whenever they try to do a metallic they end up with a chunky glitter.

Beth Avatar

I love the shades and being a very pale person buildable mattes are actually preferable for me. Also my purple seemed very pigmented and applied easily so who knows ? maybe it’s a quality control issue from trying to crank out a higher volume of product.

Genevieve Avatar

I don’t think I like this palette due to the randomness of the shades and the poor quality of some. However, very few brands get that matte forest green shade perfect, but Viseart could have tried harder.
The best part is that there is no glitter here, but still an average palette given its price point.
Stunning eye look Christine.

Deborah S. Avatar

Overall, I like the shades in this palette and feel like it would produce some very pretty eye looks but it is concerning that Viseart’s quality control seems to be slipping. When you ask a premium for your shadows they need to be stellar. I know that these palettes are meant to be a cheaper, entry level palette but no one will buy your more expensive palettes if the quality of your smaller palettes isn’t there. I do like the sage green color in this palette a lot, though!

farrah Avatar

I really like this palette. I purchased it after watching Michele Wang on you tube do a simple eye look. I have always like Viseart and this one for me did not disappoint.

Laura Avatar

Hi Christine,
I don’t see this mentioned anywhere online or perhaps you’ve already addressed it but all my old Viseart palettes are made in France and the new ones are all made in the USA. I bought the neutral mattes a few months ago at Sephora and mine is made in France and I checked yesterday in stores and now it’s made in the USA. Do you think the factory change has affected quality? I haven’t seen the brand address this and they’ve always been very vocal about ‘made in small batches in France’, they still advertise this and I find it misleading as I’m not sure if the formula has changed. I’d love to hear whether you know more about this and how you feel about it? I’m so confused. Thanks in advance.

Christine Avatar

I would look at the ingredient lists to see if there were formula changes – I believe there were differences in ingredient lists years ago, and the formulas they are using in some of the palettes is different (like some of the shimmers) on purpose.
