Viseart Cool Matte (07) Eyeshadow Palette
Viseart Cool Matte (07) Eyeshadow Palette ($80.00 for 0.84 oz.) includes twelve shades of (mostly) cooler-toned, matte eyeshadows. I thought that Viseart would be the hero of cool-toned palettes, but this palette was a miss. There are too many shades that are under-pigmented and have a powdery or dusty texture, which just made it a harder-to-use palette overall. Of course, it had to be the cool-toned palette that had the most misses. For someone who often uses primer and expects to pair this with other products, it might still work, but the higher price point coupled with so-so performance (especially compared to other Viseart palettes) makes this a disappointing palette.
Cool Matte #1 is a cool-toned, medium white with a matte finish. It had mostly opaque coverage with a soft, lightly dusty consistency. It wore well for eight hours on me.
Cool Matte #2 is a medium-dark, pinky mauve with neutral undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a silky, smooth, and blendable texture that lasted for eight hours before fading.
Cool Matte #3 is a light-medium, peachy-pink with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had so-so color coverage, and the texture was firmer in the pan (one of my least favorite eyeshadows by texture in all Viseart palettes I’ve tried!). It lasted for eight hours once applied.
Cool Matte #4 is a medium-dark taupe brown with warm, yellow undertones and a gray overtone paired with a satin finish. It had good pigmentation, while the consistency felt soft and silky in the pan without being powder. The eyeshadow applied well and blended out easily while lasting for nine hours on me.
Cool Matte #5 is a dark, taupe brown with subtle, warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a blendable texture that was a smidgen dusty. It wore well for eight hours before fading on me.
Cool Matte #6 is a brightened, light-medium cotton candy pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, silky texture that was easy to use on the lid. The color started to fade after eight hours on me.
Cool Matte #7 is a muted, medium-dark eggplant with subtle, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff, which was buildable, but the texture ran a dusty and thinner, so it was prone to sheering out when applied. It wore well for eight hours.
Cool Matte #8 is a dark gray with a satin finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage, while the texture was firm and harder to work with on the lid as it often went on unevenly and was harder to blend. It lasted for eight hours on.
Cool Matte #9 is a brightened, dark navy blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good pigmentation, though the consistency had a dustiness to it that made it a little messier to work with (definitely apply this before your base products!). The color lasted for eight and a half hours before fading.
Cool Matte #10 is a medium, purpled taupe with a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly dusty, powdery texture that made it prone to sheering out on the lid. The color wore well for seven and a half hours on me.
Cool Matte #11 is a cool-toned, medium bluish-gray with a satin finish. It had sheer coverage with a powdery texture that made it harder to apply and build up. It started to fade after seven hours of wear.
Cool Matte #12 is a deep, blackened brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Oh bummer, except for the last shade, these all look kind of dry and powdery. Matte shades are always tougher to get right, but I thought Viseart would be able to do it, but nope. It’s too bad as many of their other palettes run warm, and this could’ve been used to balance it out
Same here 🙁 They did the warmer neutrals so well.
Thanks for you review! I have the neutral mattes palette and I love it, and I’ve been eyeing the cool mattes one for awhile, but after seeing your review it’s off my wishlist. It seems that my search for a good cool-toned palette continues . . . .
My pleasure as always, Jenn!
I’m all about that eyeliner. Is that new? It looks really matte (I love matte neons).
Nope, part of the original line-up as far as I know!
Thanks, Christine. Can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying your site since I found it!!
Wow–some of the shades in this palette are really pretty. But the price tag: ouch!!
Your eyes look stunning in some of these shades. You have the most unique and unusual mixture of color in your irises. Truly beautiful eyes!!
Aww, thank you so much, Renee!! 🙂
Too bad. I think of On the Waterfront, as written by Schulberg, directed by Kazan, and voiced by Brando…’coulda been somebody…coulda been a contender.’ A pretty dreadful showing for something with so much promise… Thanks for sparing the debit card, Christine.
Every time a cooler-toned palette comes out, I get so hopeful… and I must admit, I was very surprised that this one had so many misses.
Ouch!!! This is really painful for the price tag! I feel terrible for all those out here who have been anxiously awaiting a HG cool-toned palette of their very own. Each one released by whoever, tends to be just awful or at minimum, has at least a few D-rated shades. I sure do wish some brand out here would formulate these tricky shades better! And yet, oddly, ColourPop DID with Party Time, and so has Nyx with the old Root Beer and Jamaica quint (both DC’d)
I was sooo surprised there were so many Cs 🙁
The color scheme looks kind of similar to theBalm Meet Matte and Too Faced Matte Eye collection. Maybe those are a better bet.
They could be!
Why are we cool toned gals so unloved? ?
🙁
I love your purple eye look! I’m sad the berry and lavender shades are so bad.
Thank you, Rachel <3
Strange color choices, to me
I think the browns could have been truly cool-toned!
Ah maybe thats why it looks strange, the warm browns juxtaposed against the purples and blues.
Wow! I’m stunned that this didn’t get an A rating! I love cool toned palettes, but there’s no way I could splurge something this expensive with such a meh rating. I think I’m still better off finally picking up Kat Von D’s Innerstellar palette… At least I know I definitely love all those shades.
You and me both! I thought it would be better, given the other mattes I’ve tried from Viseart!
Thanks Christine for reviewing this palette. I just bought the neutral matte palette, and was looking forward to Visearts other palettes. I’m so sad that these cool matte shadows fell flat. BUT…. Thank you for saving me $80!!!!!! I think I’ll just get some of the dupes of the colors I liked in this palette. BTW, I love your look!
Thanks, Raven! I’m glad I could help 🙂
Love the colors, I’m dying to try the matte neutral I forget the name. But coming off topic. I wanted to ask you if you have tried the new MAC Studio Water Weight Foundation that launched this month. I’m so curious if it is comparable th the Marc Jacobs Remarcable foundation .
I haven’t!
This is more in my color wheelhouse but I’m a little disappointed in the quality of some of the shades. Too much $$$ for a disappointment.
Agreed — it’s too pricey to have so many misses!
I started to comment, hit a button, and it went somewhere. So, I’m hoping you don’t get two from me!
This is a hard one. I’m totally peeved at Viseart for ruining my plan of just getting all of these eventually and being set. I do use primer and most of them seem like they would be good with primer. I agree, a total shock here. But, after picking my jaw up off the floor, I’m just trying to decide if this is one to keep on my wish list or not for the shades to go along with the others. When you consider the amount of shadows, the price is not bad. I pay $61 for 4 Chanel. So, I suppose the question is: do you think primer will bring the quality up enough? By the way, where did you find this one Christine?
It’s really, really hard for me to recommend an $80 palette with so many misses, even primer would help to some degree. I think if you wear primer, it may rate closer to a B+, but you’ll still need to build-up color for some shades.
I got mine from Muse Beauty!
And only got this one 🙂
Thanks for being honest and saving me $80. I’d rather spend a little more if I must and try to get the shades in mufe artist maybe.
What a bummer. Been eyeing this for a long time too 🙁 Oh, well, money saved I suppose…
🙁
Dull, unimaginative and ……. very dupable.
Bummer!
eeep rather stunned at the high suckage factor on some of these swatches.. Too bad. This could have been a hard hitting much needed palette for peeps looking for a cooler palette.
Exactly! There are so few genuinely cool-toned (let alone permanent!) palettes.
Looove your eye look!
Too cool for me anyway (ha) but I’m disappointed it didn’t fare better, as there are so few genuinely cool-toned palettes out there.
Right? I was hoping it would be an option for those on the hunt for something cool-toned!
Aww, I’m sorry you don’t love it as much as I do…this is my favourite of the Visearts I have. I’ve been wearing a combo of #1, #2 and #3 almost every day because they work for me so well. Your eye look is stunning! 🙂
Any advice?
Unfortunately no… this is one I just slap on and go, for some reason it just works for me
Naturally, this is the Viseart palette I was most interested in. I almost bought it last month. Now I’m really glad I didn’t! What a shame it had such poor performing shadows. Thank you for your terrific reviews. 🙂
Happy to share, Pami!
The swatches do look underwhelming but that purple look you did- amazing!
Thanks a lot, Jo!
As a cool toned eye shadow wearer, this palette is, frankly, awful. Why have pinks in it? No greens, a yucky grey? And the quality is really poor. You did an amazing eye look with this palette Christine, considering the poor quality. Very easy pass for me.
Thank you< Genevieve!
What a disappointment especially compared to the other Viseart palettes ?. Think I’ll get Bridal Satin but the others are a bit too warm for me. What other pro cool matts palettes do you recommend? Xx
There really aren’t many cool palettes to choose from! 🙁
What a shame! You do a sterling job with the trialling and reviewing though ?.
What a shame. It seems like cool colors in general are an issue for manufacturers.
They really do…
Wow dare I say the majority even look patchy! *gasp* I bought the neutral mattes palette and am drooling over sultry muse, and paris. I am so thankful for your reviews on here and would not have expected this performance. Thanks!
Same here! I was very disappointed 🙁
Is it possible that it was better before and due to that ingredient change they did everything got messed up. I do wonder why there were so many positive reviews for this palette? (Or maybe people just amp up expensive products because of the hype)
It’s definitely possible. The list is different than the Neutral palette (which is the “oldest” of the ones I purchased).
I honestly wish I had not wasted my money on this palette. 🙁
I’m guessing you had a similar experience? 🙁
Yeah, I just find it very underwhelming. Some of the shades are powdery, and I’m not seeing the amazing blendability that I hear their other palettes have.
Hmmm…. Sounds like yours is a dud. I bought mine from Alcone, which is the company I trust for all of my Pro-grade makeup. My palette leans cool on ALL of the colors, but that is probably because I have very fair, pinky skin. Each powder is silky, finely milled, and very buildable, and I only use my squirrel brushes with my Viseart palettes. That pale lavender-grey shade is perfect for contouring eyes and cheeks on fair, cool-toned folk. I say, if you are eyeing this one, give it a try, as you can always return it if your palette does not perform to your liking! ;{}
I bought mine from Muse Beauty Pro, and I’ve only heard good things about them. At $80 and all the marketing speak about small batches means there should be no duds, IMO! I’m glad you are enjoying yours 🙂
Such a shame– their only cool palette. I had bought this. Had not used it because I was just hesitating. Now it goes back. Thank you, Christine!
No problem, Alison!
Hi Christine, I’m looking into getting some good matte eye shadows, any particular brand or palette you would recommend, thanks! Love your reviews
Viseart is a good one 🙂
