Valentine's Day Makeup with MAC Wonder Woman Defiance

MAC Wonder Woman Look: Defiance

Just because it can be made to work… doesn’t mean it is worth buying. I really had to pack on the color to get it to show, and there was some issues with blending, because the shades were so stiff.  I maintain my recommendation of “no buy” to the fullest!

You will need the following…

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Paradise Island eyeshadow on the inner half of the lower lid. Lightly blend Star Studded eyeshadow onto the outer third of the lid and crease with the 222. Apply Defiance eyeshadow on the inner tear duct and crease with the 239.  Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Perversion on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Victorious Opulash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Mighty Aphrodite blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Spitfire lipstick first, then layer Wonder Woman lipglass for a complementing lip.

I love that foundation on you and you are so good with lip combos I love it. I’m def gonna pass on this whole collection thanks for the reviews.

Yeah if you start with the darker colour at the bottom and smoke it upwards, blending in the lighter colours i think it looks great. I often do this anyway even though i have a crease

Grace Avatar

This is so pretty Christine! The eyes are really soft and smoky, plus love the pink tones. Sadly, I was totally un-impressed with the Wonder Woman collection, completely agree with you. PS: like the settings on your camera, the lips look awesome.

Liz Avatar

Very Pretty look! Love the lip combo. But I’ll def take your advice and not pick it up a palette. You saved me 40$. Thanks for all your hard work!
In person, is the purple mascara noticeable? I was thinking about picking it up but if you cant even tell I’m going to bother.
Thanks again Christine

It is such a shame to hear that the quality defiance is so crappy, because this is truly a stunning look. I may have to try to recreate it with the dupes that you mentioned!

Star Studded is such a pretty color. I’m curious, why did you decide to do a look with this palette when you don’t recommend it? I know the colors are appropriate for Valentine’s Day, but I’m personally not planning to get this if the quality is so poor.

Lauren Avatar

This might be off subject but what camera do you use? Your pictures always have awesome quality and that’s why I always come to your blog to see swatches.

Love this pink pretty look, especially for Valentine. Nars Sheer Glow looks great on you just like Make Up For Ever Hd foundations, which one do you prefer the most and why. Thx Christine.

You look absolutely beautiful in these colours, Christine- the lips look just luscious. That said, I’m looking at the image thinking that I have products I could use as dupes, or that I know things I could get that would be cheaper and easier than buying the WW products. Thanks for at least giving me some ideas for a look!

Love this look!! although i would LOVE if you could make one with lady justice. I’m not as convinced with many things form this collection as I was with other ones, I hope the collection arrives punctually to Mexico. 🙂

Even though the quality of the e/s quad is not so hot, you can’t even tell from the photos that the shadows are super difficult to work with. Which just means you rocked it like a pro! 😀 The shades look beautiful together and the lip combo is awesomeness. Maybe worth checking out the lip stuff then! 🙂

Nessa Avatar

the lips are definitely hot..!

such a disappointment though..it looks very pretty on you but if it’s hard to do/takes a lot of time then this is not worth buying..i appreciate that you do this for all of us (your readers)

xoxo nessa

For the lipglass, do you mean Athena’s Kiss? Wonder Woman is red… it doesn’t sound right lol.

This look is beautiful! I’ll definitely try to re-create it for valentines day this year 🙂

Lena Avatar

This looks very pretty! But now I really get what you are talking about with the poor quality: despite your stellar blending skills, the colors look kind of.. blah. I’m totally skipping the quads.

Jenna Avatar

Yowyas! That lip is stunning! I love how you combine lipsticks with lipglosses to create entirely new colours! Pinks always look amazing on you! Look at all the exclamation marks I’m using! (Excuse me for getting really excited from that swatch). Overall, I don’t wear much make-up but I invest everything on my puckers and am partial to bright lip colours. Browsing your lip swatches is a always delectable experience. Your lips always look like candy!

That is actually really really pretty! But I agree, just because it can be made to work doesn’t always mean you should try, esp. when you have better substitutes… Really appreciate the effort here though because I know there will be people getting the palette, color pay-off issues aside.

With all the pretty looks you always come up with I start wondering myself if you have ever taken any makeup classes Christine! I’ m very impressed with your perfect eye make up techniques! I’d love to be that skilled especially with eyeshadow application, well I guess I need to practise a lot more!

margot Avatar

May I just say, I love the way to take pictures of your lips. It gives me chills every time, they are so beautiful haha (dang, sounds like I’d have some weird lip fetish or something, which is not the case!! haha)
The look is so pretty, it’s so sad that the palette is such a pain to use :/

Paola Avatar

You look amazing Christine! Great look, I love it!! I have been following your amazing site for a while but this is the first time I write so I take this chance to thank you SO MUCH for your incredible hard work and dedication, you provide such a valuable service to all of us, so thank you for your amazing website, your dedication and hard work!! And a big kiss to gorgeous Mellan!! Paola (all the way from North West of Italy, currently under heavy snow)

It’s a pretty look – I might try to recreate it with some stuff I already own as I won’t be getting these products. Luckily I have Vanilla Pigment, Fig 1, Sketch, Deep Throat, Up the Amp, Girl About Town and Russian Red l/g…so I just have to find a substitute for Paradise Island! I’m sure MAC Petal Worship or one of Urban Decay’s pinks would do the trick 🙂

I only have three things on my wonder woman list, Pink Power, Heroine, and Bad Bad Black 🙂 Thanks so much for all of your pics and swatches! Telling me about this site is the best thing my MAC people have done for me.

M@rsy Avatar

Christine I have a question. Were the wonder woman colors from the pink palette a tougher texture? When I saw the pics of the palettes, it seemed like colors didn’t look as pigment.

Ru Avatar

Thanks for posting this look despite the shadow being on your no-buy list. This is a nice soft look for v-day but also the spring time. Gives me inspiration to pull out my pinks!

Marcela Avatar

beautiful eye combo, christine! too bad the palette’s quality turned out so crappy. luckily i have dupes for all those colors in my 3 Pro palettes.

Eleanor Avatar

This is pretty, but I think I actually prefer the green quad. At this point, I think I have to go to the store and look at the quads in person. To me, there are a lot of qualities in the E/s that just don’t seem to show up on the computer. I often think I will like one e/s, when looking at the computer, and when I get to the store, that e/s doesn’t look as great as I thought it would and I like something else completely different a lot better. But, we are having a blizzard right now, and I won’t be able to get out for the next couple of days. Something to look forward to this weekend.

Nora Avatar

Gorgeous! I tried a similar lip combo today (Lime Crime Airborne Unicorn + MAC Venetian) and I so love the results, I have to do purple & red together more often.

loveletters Avatar

pink with deeper pinks/violets are my favorite. But this year I’m thinking sultry eyes and nude lips. I have big eyes so I really want to play them up plus I like to leave the lips soft/natural so I can play kissyface without worry ;p

Roza Avatar

I purchased this palette and found it fairly pigmented:) I guess you have to work the two middle shades a bit, but overall I think it was worth it… The colors are very pretty!! Thanks for all your awesome reviews!!!!
