The Hue of Sage Green

Urban Decay Urb Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a sage green with antique gold glitter flecks. It’s a very smooth shade that’s pigmented but the color itself is softer, so it’s not a bright or intense shade of green. I love the slight golden sheen that’s in the finish.

Urban Decay described it as a “metallic celedon green with glitter,” which should immediately alert you to the fact that this is a glittery shade. It will have some fall out. My experience with Urb is that the fall out is significantly less than some of the most egregious: Midnight Cowboy Rides Again.

If you want a more satin finish shade, you could try Make Up For Ever’s #34 Eyeshadow instead.

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: If it weren’t for the inevitable fall out that Urban Decay’s glitter shades are prone to, I’d really love this shade. The color itself is beautiful, and the soft flecks of glitter are lovely–when they stay on the lid.

Heh. I have this color, have had it for years, and every time I use it I end up swearing. Between the fallout, and the fact that on my skin tone it has no color, just a sickly sheen….. If it was a little darker, it would be workable, if it was a little paler, it would be subtle natural. I’m curious how it shows up on your eyes, with your deeper skin. The most use I’ve gotten from it is smudging a little on the very inner corner of the eye. I hope you got other UD shades to review! It’s been a while since I looked up most of their permanent line.

It’s not opaque enough to work over darker greens like the MUFE emerald Aqua cream, or leaf Flash cream. I wear it sometimes with other greens, but it doesn’t blend well when layered, on me anyways. I’m really disappointed! I’d love to hear that it works for someone else though, since it’s such a pretty color in pan. I’ve kept it in the hopes that, either I’ll use it on someone else, or give it to someone else eventually, but that hasn’t happened yet.

There’s a part of me that REALLY wants to work it with a mossy smoky eye-MAC Green smoke, maybe UD Green Goddess…. Eh, I guess it’s just not my shade though.

Eh, that’s what I get for buying online without trying it on first, though.

Mustard-y yellows are definitely tough. I can do yellow-orange, true yellow, or yellow-chartreuse, but mustard doesn’t work on me either.

I love using matte yellow for contrast, with shimmery greens, bright pinks. My skins neutral so it does usually work best paired with other warm shades to give the impression that my skin is warmer. I can usually handle any shade in the spectrum, except ones like Urb that are too pale to contrast, or shades like mustard, that don’t have a lot of close neutral matches. I’m not quite warm enough to be able to make it work.

MAC chronic yellow is my favorite. If i want it to really pop, I like using MUFE flash cream under it–it doesn’t change the finish, but it brightens it a LOT, so I only need a little bit to get a flat, non powdery section. I want to go take another look at Going Bananas, but I don’t know if i really use yellow often enough to need it.

I LOVE the recommendation of a similar shade w/o glitter…UD shadows are my favorite, but I always make sure I don’t buy the glitter ones, but sometimes it’s a bit disappointing because I like their colors…so that was really useful, thank you! I’d love seeing that for future UD shadow reviews! (Esp. a dupe in MAC, if it were to exist, since they’re cheaper.)

what a wearable green !
christine , do you know any online retailer that sells Urban Decay with international shipping 🙁 I don’t have it where I live and my school is up so I won’t be traveling anytime soon </3

I also found this shade really sheer, but I applied it wet and then it looked good. A few hours later, though, it had totally disappeared from my right eye. I don’t remember rubbing it, so it was kind of weird. I want to give it a try with a primer underneath to see if it holds up better. I also find that fallout is a huge issue. I had glitter all over my cheeks!

For what it is worth. sephora has a teflon type of plastic applicator glitter brush for non fallout of glittery eye shadow apps. Bought one for my daughter but so far no feedback.

I love Urb. I have it in my old UD 1st Date-> Pin-Up Face Case and I have to get a new one to replace it, because I’m basically out of it. They matched it up with Lounge, YDK, Midnight Cowboy shadows and they all go together so well.

I’m pretty pale, so it shows up well on me and I always get compliments when I wear it out. Yeah, there’s fallout, but the color is worth it. Besides, it’s nothing a bit of Scotch Tape can’t pick up.

Thanks for reviewing some UD stuff. I’m heading to Sephora soon to shop some UD and you’re giving great ideas on what to get and what not to.

Urb is my favorite UD green shadow. It’s so soft and pretty that I’ve repurchased. Despite the glitter, it’s not a shadow that’s frosty, so I deal with it. So glad you reviewed it.

I’ve had this e/s for several years now and rarely use it. Like you said, the color is beautiful but the fallout is such a MESS! I’ve almost entirely given up on UD eyeshadow for this reason. Even the less glittery shades go all over the place for me.
