Urban Decay Roach Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches

Urban Decay Roach Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep burgundy metallic brown.” It’s a burgundy-tinted brown with warm, reddish-orange undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. I want to call it burgundy, but there is a lot of brown present. bareMinerals Euphoria is very similar in color; it is less metallic in finish, though. Cinderella Rococo is purpler. NARS Flowers 3 #2 is less frosted but similar in color. Estee Lauder Violet Underground #2 is warmer, redder.

Roach had fantastic color payoff, and it applied very smoothly and evenly.  I felt like I hardly needed to pass the brush across the pan to get the full color coverage I expected from the shade.  The texture was so soft and buttery, but it was a smidgen powdery–like the tiniest bit but still felt it was worth mentioning. I didn’t see any fall out during application or later on during wear, though.  The color was easy to blend out and mix with other eyeshadows.  It lasted eight hours quite well, and after nine, there was a hint of fading.

bareMinerals Euphoria has been my go-to shade since I got The Happy Place quad about a month ago. Because it’s LE, I’ve thought about buying a backup while it’s still available, but seeing the swatches of UD Roach I’m might get that instead. Do you think there is much difference in quality? I love how extremely pigmented Euphoria is, and I’ve had trouble with frosty UD shadows creasing in the past. What do you think? UD or bM backup? I guess it’s worth mentioning that I also love Exhale from the same palette, and I can’t think of any dupe (at least not quality wise).

Btw, what happened to this post yesterday? I was about to post my comment, and then suddenly the entire post was gone.

I love this shade! It’s a brown with a tiny bit of plum in it. It goes great with other eyeshadows in my collection. Lately I’ve been wearing in the grease with Freelove UD eyeshadow on the lid.

This is so pretty, but why, whyyyy would they name it “Roach”? Such a gross name, not something I want to associate with a pretty color like this!

I prefer to think that is the reference, as well, LOL… Well, even if it was named for the other, let’s just choose to believe the pot reference!

Roach has always been one of my faves. It’s so versatile. I love Lounge also but sometimes the occasion doesn’t permit blue color shift. Roach takes care of that.

I’m not sure if you picked up the Theodora palette from UD but I think the colour included called “West” seems very similar. Could it be the same? And if not, how similar?

Urban Decay Roach (in the old formula) was actually the first Urban Decay product I ever bought and the first eyeshadow single I’ve purchased at a higher pricepoint. Been an Urban Decay fan ever since.
