As someone who was actually a teenager during the early 2000’s, this is more of what I expect. Pastel, frosty finishes. I mean, everyone did their makeup like that in the early, early naughties.

So it seems to be a good representative of the Y2K trend right now, but we’ll see how it performs…

This may be the first palette in the UD Naked series that I do NOT buy. It looks to me like all toppers and one true matte. If it gets high marks from Temptalia, I will might reconsider — or if it goes on sale two weeks after its release.

I agree with the general internet consensus that this is the type of early 2000s revival makeup I was expecting to see. I might pick it up depending on how well the frosty-ness shows up when in use. I just picked up several Sigil Inspired sheer duo&multichrome however, as well as the Violet Voss Sugar Crystals palette so I’m not altogether sure I don’t have at least one dupe for each shade I’d use.
Personally – I’ve already given in and bought a few duo shades upon Urban Decays shadow reformation when everything went to $10, (like Asphyxia,) and I’ve been less than impressed upon using it. My JD Glow shadow for <$7 with the same lightblue/purple shift is a much more impressive single. I only use the Asphyxia for a sheer wash now..

UD, we can see that the swatches on the model with the darkest skin are ashy as hell. Why even bother trying to swatch on multiple skintones when it’s clear that this palette was only designed with one skintone in mind? Such a shame too, because imo, duochromes are especially stunning on dark skin.

As someone who came of age in the 90s and met her spouse in a chat room, I’m finding all of this late 90s/Y2K nostalgia pretty funny. This colorway doesn’t particularly wow me, but the circuit board print on the top is really cute and thematically appropriate.

Also, again as someone who came of age in the late 90s and spent a lot of time in chat rooms as a teen, anytime something is called “cyber” my mind immediately goes to cybersex, because that’s what everyone meant if they said “cyber” back in the old days 😉 “Naked Cyber” sounds like a naughty chat room I wouldn’t have dared enter on the computer I shared with my family.

I don’t know about testers, but there WERE bots back in the 90s — on IRC you could script a bot to be the admin on a channel. It would do things like boot people for using offensive language, or do an automatic response to a query. I remember my mom hanging out in Christian chat rooms with bots that could pull up a bible quote, but would also kick her if she mentioned our pet cockatiels, because the word started with “cock.” So then people figured out if you got the bot to use the bible quote about “Before the cock crows you’ll deny me three times” and it would kick itself out of the channel 😉

All this to say, someone might have said “Not a bot” to indicate they were a real person and not just an admin bot.

I still hope that one day UD will release a Naked Olive with lots of gorgeous olive, khaki and gold/green shades in a multitude of finishes. Huda Khaki definitely missed the mark for me.

I must have some vintage dupes that I haven’t decluttered. 🤣 Frost is interesting. Everyone draws his/her own line as to how frosty is acceptable. The top row of Bridal Satin is OTT for me, so this will be a no. A suckworthy no, in all likelihood.

If I still had all my drug store eyeshadow duos from high school, I’d be trendy again, is that what you’re telling me? 🤣 Maybe it’s just a bad image, but I see two or three duochrome-ish shades, and that’s a generous description. Something that frosty will look a tiny bit different based on angle and lighting. At least they stayed away from that one teal/brown shade that was the only duochrome shade in every palette in the mid 00s.

This looks pretty! I’m ALMOST tempted… but UD has been such a miss lately. I’ve given in to a couple recent releases and I’m just not up for getting disappointed again. I’m going to have to pass unless the reviews are really surprising.

Valerie Avatar

I like the idea of this palette more than the reality – a struggle with most of those shimmer shades. It’s a very interesting release from UD.

We all b1tch about UD losing their edginess, what the brand ‘stood for.’ Now they’re actually getting edgy again, with retro. Ironic. And the general feeling seems to be no. Maybe these are toppers for the 10,000 warm neutral palettes we all have.

Being one of those weirdos who really love their moonndust shadows (Space Cowboy & Lithium are my 2 faves), I was really looking forward to picking this up on my birthday / same as release day and no one seems to have it in stock. Called a few places and neither ulta or Sephora are even aware of it. Boo hoo….let’s see if I don’t forget about it inna few weeks

How would these shades look on mature skin I wonder? Not to mention that I am medium-dark skin tone… Really looking forward to temptalia’s review & final mark. If scores, high I might purchase…

Dana Avatar

This is a rather interesting palette that’s been tossed in by Urban Decay. I have seen all of them, from the humble OG Naked palette all the way to the Naked Wild West palette. I think Naked Cyber will definitely reach out to those out there who love soft colors with the ever-so-awesome duo-chrome shades that have a multi-function use! Good job, UD!

missmaximalist Avatar

These photos from the brand are terrible, LOL I’ve seen some photos from influencers that make it look quite stunning. So looking forward to the review.

The palette also seems to be following the trend of a lot of Korean & Chinese makeup brands, colour story wise. I’ve seen UD expanding into Asia and I think there’s definitely a trend in these colour stories for that reason. Although these may be “sheer,” this kind of formula is also pretty popular in Asia. See 3CE/Etude House/Flower Knows/Romand as examples.

Will probably be picking this one up.
