Too Faced Love Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Too Faced Love Palette
Too Faced Love Palette

Too Faced Love Palette ($49.00 for 0.50 oz.) contains fifteen eyeshadows split into three combinations. It utilizes a new formula with “slurry powder technology,” which ultimately gives them a slightly drier, dustier consistency that is harder to apply on bare skin. The formula is one that definitely needs to be used damp (and I think most shades could probably be used with a damp brush with no ill effect, but I haven’t tried it with all of the shades) or with an eyeshadow primer, preferably one with a little tack or thickness to it. The more sparkly shades create a lot of sparkle fall out while applying as well as during wear, as the sparkle tended to separate from the base color. The eyeshadows lasted for seven to eight hours on average with semi-opaque color payoff. I think a brown eyeliner might have been a better fit with these, as they run more faded/softer applied, and the black can be harsh–it’s certainly a dramatic choice.

Cherish is a light-medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a frosted finish. It had mostly opaque coverage with a soft, fairly smooth texture that blended and adhered well to the skin. It lasted for eight hours. MAC Hey (P, $16.00) is lighter. Too Faced Cheers! (LE, $16.00) is cooler. Disney by Sephora Splendid (LE, ) is lighter. Dearest is a light-medium gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. You could feel the sparkle pull away from the base color, so it had a more crumbly consistency and tended to have fall out during application (as I blended) as well as when worn (all over the under eye). It lasted for seven hours before fading. Milani Drenched in Gold (P, $6.99) is darker. Gucci Beauty Antique Gold (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, better quality. Sleek MakeUP Meet in Madrid (LE, $9.99) is darker. theBalm #41 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery. Divergent Golden Honesty (LE, ) is less shimmery. Ardency Inn Sunday (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. Adore is a soft, medium-dark copper with warm, orange-brown undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that was a little dusty and tended to look sheerer on the lid as a lot of the color blends away. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. bareMinerals Imagine (P, ) is darker. MAC Magnetic Attraction (LE, $21.00) is darker, cooler. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #11 (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Desire is a medium-dark, golden brown with warm, caramel undertones. It had nice color coverage that went on very smoothly and evenly, and this shade wasn’t too dusty to work with, so it applied well. The color wore for eight hours before fading. Bobbi Brown Praline (LE, $21.00) is more muted. MAC Butterfudge (P, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Butterfudge (P, $16.00) is lighter. Milani Bella Cappuccino (03) (P, $4.49) is lighter. Passion is a muted, medium-dark purple mauve with lighter gold sparkle and a metallic sheen. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation with a dusty consistency that sheers out easily. It doesn’t adhere that well to bare skin, especially as the sparkle dusts away. It lasted for seven hours but had a lot of fall out during wear. bareMinerals Catch Me If (P, ) is less shimmery. ColourPop Tinsel (LE, $5.00) is warmer. ColourPop Tinsel (LE, $5.00) is warmer. Ardency Inn Disco (P, $21.00) is darker, cooler. ColourPop Cricket (P, $5.00) is darker, cooler. Romance is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. It was very pigmented but powdery, though it didn’t sheer out much when applied, so it ended up being one of the better shades in the palette. It wore well for eight hours before fading. Sleek MakeUP Entwined (P, $9.99) is lighter. Urban Decay Vengeance (LE, $18.00) is darker. bareMinerals Yes Please (P, ) is lighter. Make Up For Ever S616 Chocolate (P, $21.00) is darker. Perfect Black is an intense black with a satin finish. It was richly pigmented and very, very creamy, so I had no problems applying it and never felt it tugging at the lash line. It is, however, so creamy that wear is an issue as it migrated to the corners of the eyes noticeably after seven hours of wear. Urban Decay Perversion (LE, $19.00) is less glossy. Agree on both points…I want to delve more deeply into pro lines that don’t rely on precious presentation. But Christine did a fantastic job prying some seriously good looks out of those cutesie little pans 🙂

Rachel R. Avatar

Shoot, the formula sounds really mediocre. The grades just aren’t good enough for a $50 palette as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for reviewing this so quickly.

Christine Avatar

No problem! It’s okay, which is how I feel about a lot of TF’s eyeshadows, though this is just okay for different reasoning – whereas their regular formula is usually thin and powdery, this one is denser but dusty, almost a dryness to it, though it isn’t firm or anything like that.

Lulle Avatar

I actually really like the look of these shadows, although I would have preferred more mattes/satins thrown in rather than an almost all-shimmer palette. They do look faded on your eye looks but I suppose that they would be a lot more intense with a primer.

Sarah Avatar

Someone probably has already asked this, and it’s simply waiting in the queue, but just in case: Christine, did you have any issue with getting brushes into the odd-shaped pans? Obviously with the pigmentation issue, you probably wouldn’t be sticking any loose, fluffy brushes in the pans, but still.

Sarah Avatar

I’ve generally liked TF’s shadows and quality, despite the grades they get here, so I’ll have to swatch for myself and see! Thanks for another helpful review, Christine! If they do indeed need to be used damp… Ugh, huge no no.

A Avatar

I actually really like the colour choices in this one, but can’t stand the overly cutesy packaging – almost glad it didn’t perform that well so I wouldn’t be tempted to get it anyway (and probably never use it!)

Michele Avatar

I’m probably repeating here: Love the looks you created but this palette isn’t exciting (or different) enough to make me want to buy it. The cost for a “meh” reaction palette can’t be justified IMO. Thanks for your review – you pretty much confirmed what I was thinking!

Ginny Avatar

I really like the swatch of Passion, however I’ve had BM Covert Affair and LM African Violet on my list for a while, both of which look like better performers.

Victoria Avatar

I want to like it but I’m not entirely impressed with it. I dig more of the Return of Sexy palette more over this… Conflicting I want the Semisweet and the Return of Sexy palette. :C Thank you so much for the review, it’s an easy skip.

Nancy T Avatar

It’s not bad, but yeah, $50 for a B, I don’t know. You were, however, definitely able to put together some truly lovely eye looks with it though! Probably not the easiest thing to do with such an unusual formula, “slurry powder technology”? Hmmm…

Anne Avatar

I fell in love with this palette when I saw it for the first time, but after the swatches.. meh, I think I’ll keep the money. Will you also review the Born this way foundation?

Pami Avatar

The palette is adorable. I was most excited about Passion. Sadly, it didn’t do too well. Most of the other shades I like are pretty dupable, as in I already have them 😉

xamyx Avatar

There are some absolutely stunning shades in this palette, but there are also far too many I’d never touch… However, this palette would be *perfect* for my daughter-if she were a few years older, LOL!

Genevieve Avatar

I will have to say I am not a fan of this palette – for a start the rating is not high enough to justify the price and secondly, many of the colours seem too similar to each other. There would be a lot of dupes here. To me, the only colour that I liked was Darling, the rest were varying shades of neutral……

Katherine T. Avatar

Hmm, with fallout and drier texture, the palette isn’t worth the $50 price. With the cutesy packaging and high shimmer levels, I think they were aiming for a younger customer base, but many of them can’t afford a $50 palette. I think it would’ve been better if they broke this up into 3 separate palettes and charged only $15-$20 each. The quint would still be cute, it’s a lot more affordable, and any faults in the formula will be more easily forgiven

Toni Robinson Avatar

At first glance this looks a great palette. But after viewing the swatches I’m kinda left feeling I can’t realły justify paying that price for a mediocre formula. As in saying that you have created some really beautiful looks Christine!

Paz Avatar

Passion looks a lot like Icon on the Return of Sexy palette. It’s probably the same shade. This palette looks so boring though, these colors are nothing unique and don’t look very pigmented. Also, Too Faced will no longer be sold in my country for some reason, so I won’t be able to buy their products ever again, I guess. Fortunately, Makeup Revolution has very nice dupes for their heart shaped blushes and chocolate palettes, so I won’t be missing much.

Allison Avatar

As a grown woman, I am not a fan of the hearts and cutesy design of this palette. However, my inner teenager is like “AGGH SO ADORABLE!!!” Hahaha! The adult in me overrides that part, though, so I’ll pass on this one. The colors aren’t unique enough to warrant a home in my collection, though I do love Too Faced’s eye shadows. Passion is gorgeous, though!

Wendy Avatar

Christine I’m new to your site and I just want to tell you how much I love it! Also, if I’m gonna spend 49 dollars on a palette I want to be able to use the shadows dry too. The eyeliner was the most appealing thing !

maritza Avatar

Is it me or some of the shadows look quite similar to the ones from La Belle Carrousel? I own BC ((couldnt resist the packaging LOL) and the plums and pinks and also the golden looks so familiar…. for some reason i am just not liking the presentation and normally i always drool over TF packaging… oh well saving my pennies 😛

Candice Avatar

The colour assortment is fun and the looks you made with them are really varied and nice! My opinion of the packaging surprises even though. Hearts are my favourite thing and I just adore cute things. But the look of the shadows themselves in the pans and how they’re set up really isn’t doing it for me at all!

Lotus Avatar

Ha know, other than the beautiful looks you created, the colors in this are colors I’m often drawn to and I think they did “okay.” That being said, I am fully cognizant of dupes for everything most eye catching and do not find this necessary for me but I suspect many will love it! It’s not that bad! 😀

Danielle Avatar

Hi Christine, just wondering if you remember the Too Faced Return of Sexy palette that came out a few years back…how similar is the Love Palette to it? That one was a miss for me so I will skip this if it’s alike. As always, thank you for your detailed critiques.

Francesca Avatar

Hello Danielle, for what I know the formula of this palette is the same of the one used in “The Return Of Sexy” palette. The ingredients are the same (the only thing that changes is the position of some ingredients in the ingredient’s list which only indicates in what quantity each of them is used). The two palette are almost identical in formulation, quality, texture and general feel of the eyeshadows; the colors of course are quite different except for one , the color “Passion”, that is identical to one color in The Return Of Sexy. I hope that helps!
