Tom Ford Spring 2014 Nail Lacquers Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Sugar Dune (01) Nail Lacquer
Tom Ford Spring 2014 Nail Lacquers

Tom Ford Sugar Dune (01) Nail Lacquer ($32.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a slightly cool-toned, light beige with a cream finish. This went on rather streakily on the first coat, but the second coat seemed to smooth over and fill in the streaks so the end result was even and opaque (after two coats). L’Oreal Never Lacque-ing (LE) is cooler-toned. Rescue Beauty Lounge Thank You (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, sheerer. MAC Endless Night (LE, $16.00) is darker. Chanel Frenzy (P, $27.00) is darker. Cult Nails Let’s Get Dirty (P, $12.00) is purpler. Essie Sand Tropez (LE, $8.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Incandescent (02) Nail Lacquer ($32.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a warm-toned, metallic, medium bronze with threads of shimmer. It almost looked like fairy lights were coursing through the polish. A lot of the brush strokes disappeared as the polish dried down, but they did not go away entirely. I typically get a week of wear out of Tom Ford’s nail lacquer formula, which is standard for me across most brands. Bobbi Brown Bronze (LE, $15.00) is warmer, more yellow. Tom Ford Beauty Burnt Topaz (LE, $32.00) is darker, browner. Chanel Delight (LE, $27.00) is lighter, less warm-toned. See comparison swatches.

Coral Beach (03) Nail Lacquer ($32.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, orange-coral with a cream finish–that is almost a little plush like a jelly finish. It was opaque after two coats, and it applied evenly and smoothly. I typically get a week of wear out of Tom Ford’s nail lacquer formula, which is standard for me across most brands. Rescue Beauty Lounge Kellie Gonzo (LE, $20.00) is darker. Essie Sunday Fun Day (P, $8.00) is darker. Chanel Starlet (LE, $27.00) is pinker. Butter London Trout Pout (P, $15.00) is similar. MAC Razzledazzler (LE, $16.00) is more orange. MAC Play Day (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more orange. See comparison swatches.

Indiscretion (04) Nail Lacquer ($32.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle cool undertones and a hybrid cream-jelly finish. It was opaque after two coats, and it was very easy to apply and richly pigmented–best shade of the four. I typically get a week of wear out of Tom Ford’s nail lacquer formula, which is standard for me across most brands. Dior Darling (653) (P, $24.00) is more muted. Formula X A+ (P, $12.50) is very similar. MAC Toco Toucan (LE, $16.00) is cooler toned. MAC Girl About Town (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. L’Oreal Members Only (P) is also cooler-toned, brighter. See comparison swatches.

I bought mine at Nordstrom, which is showing three of the four as backordered (they’re all limited edition), but you can also find them at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Saks.

Too true…and I do buy Chanel. Funny how our “break point” can be so random! I can only dream that one day you do a Tom Ford giveaway (and I actually am the lucky winner….).
Really lovely collection.

Maybe I´m expecting too much, but this collection isn´t doing it for me. Sheer lipsticks and easily dupeable nail polishes? I´m not impressed

I love Chanel Frenzy, but sometimes it reads as a little too grey/dark with a 2nd coat (which is necessary), so Sugar Dune looks absolutely perfect!

I also love that coral…

The price, though, is stopping me. $27 is already a lot to pay for Chanel…For $35, I could basically get a Chanel polish and an OPI/Essie polish, too, haha.

Tom Ford Nail polishes are my truly Holy Grail!!! Love them. They stay the longest on my nails and never any chipping. Chanel chips next day. I got three nail colors from this collection except Incandescent. Love them all!!! So worth it ladies. Especially for moms, who do not have time to apply nail polish several times a week. You apply it once and set for the whole week 🙂

Hi Christine! Since Formula X A+ is similar in color to Indiscretion, do you think the TF polish is worth the splurge? Do you consider the color, formulation, or application to be superior? Like some of the other posters, I buy Chanel and Dior polish on occasion, but I’m having a little trouble pulling the trigger on this one. It’s beautiful in the photos. But is it “special”?
I think I’m extra-tempted since the color is limited edition and back ordered at Nordstrom. I’m sort of a sucker that way. Value your opinion!

I prefer Formula X, actually, for a dark pink shade 🙂

I think it’s worth the splurge if it’s a color you’d wear a lot, if you’d smile every time you opened the bottle and applied it, and things like that. If it’s just the color that you care about, Formula X.
