Tom Ford Nude Dip Eye Color Quad Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Nude Dip Eyeshadow Quad
Tom Ford Nude Dip Eyeshadow Quad

Tom Ford Nude Dip Eyeshadow Quad ($79.00 for 0.21 oz.) contains four shades of warm-leaning neutrals that go from golden champagne to dark brown. If you remember Emerald Lust or Enchanted, that ultra soft, buttery, richly pigmented formula is back in this new, limited edition quad for fall. The eyeshadows go on so easily and nearly blend themselves; they work and transition into each other in a way that’s effortless. It’s a well-done set of shades, but they’re all dupable, so whether it’s a must-have will depend on your desire to have them in a palette and what you already have in your stash. You’ll also have to love shimmer, as there is quite a bit a frost in this, with all being high-shine except for one, which is more of a satin.

Nude Dip #1 is a brightened, golden champagne with a frosted, metallic finish. It had good color payoff that went on well both wet and dry, though it was a smidgen more pigmented and metallic when applied damp. The color wore well for nine hours before fading. MAC Fabulous Three #1 (LE) is less metallic. Too Faced Riviera (P, $16.00) is similar. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical #3 (P) is lighter. Tarina Tarantino Elektron (P) is similar. Kat Von D Galore (LE) is similar. L’Oreal Iced Latte (P, $7.99) is cooler-toned. Benefit Bikini-tini (P, $10.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Nude Dip #2 is a muted, medium copper with a hint of rose and a frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation applied wet or dry, and the texture turned slightly more metallic with a damp application. The texture was soft, smooth, and buttery and applied beautifully. The color stayed on without creasing or fading for nine hours. LORAC Unbelievable (P) is browner. bareMinerals Bare Skin (LE) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is darker. MAC Pink Sensibilities #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker. MAC Gingersnap (P, $15.00) is warmer, less shimmery. bareMinerals Rose Gold (P, $14.00) is cooler-toned. Urban Decay Trick (P, $18.00) is darker, warmer. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #11 (P, $9.99) is brighter, warmer. CoverGirl Melted Caramel (330) (P, $4.99) is darker, cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Pink Haze (LE, $40.00) is a cream product. MAC Temperature Rising (LE, $15.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Nude Dip #3 is a medium-dark, warm-toned taupe with a frosted, metallic sheen. It had excellent color payoff applied wet and dry, and it was so soft, smooth, and easily blended on the lid. The color wore well for nine hours before fading slightly. Chanel Tisse Rivoli #1 (P) is darker, cooler-toned. LORAC Mocha (P) is warmer. Maybelline Sleek & Spice (95) (LE, $6.99) is a cream product. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is lighter, warmer. Sleek MakeUP Python (P, $9.99) is warmer. Sleek MakeUP Paradise on Earth (P, $9.99) is similar. Urban Decay Mugshot (P, $18.00) is a touch cooler-toned. MAC Until Dawn #1 (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Platinum (LE, $40.00) is a cream product. bareMinerals A-Ha (P) is cooler-toned. Inglot #402 (P, $6.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Nude Dip #4 is a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had fantastic pigmentation regardless of application method. The texture was soft, smooth, ultra finely-milled but not powdery. When I wore it, the color didn’t show any signs of creasing until after ten hours of wear. MAC Cocktail Black (LE, $15.00) is darker. Chanel Tisse Rivoli #4 (P) is similar. YSL Saharienne #3 (P) is a touch lighter. bareMinerals Toasted Espresso (LE, $14.00) is similar. Le Metier de Beaute Autumn Rust (LE, $30.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

P.S. — I saw this up briefly for pre-order at Saks, but it’s no longer there, so I’m not sure if Saks already ran through their online stock or not. It’s due out in late August/early September, but with Tom Ford’s launches, they tend to spring up erratically online and in-store.

This is absolutely gorgeous on you! The look you created is as smooth and luxurious as one on the model they have for the Tom Ford promo pics! Thank you for the review and beautiful pictures! *must resist buying backup, must resist buying backup*

On a different note, will you be playing Draenor when it comes out? Love that my worlds of gaming and makeup love can collide!

Kat Avatar

Yes!! It’s been such a long wait for this kind of major new content! Lol I’m either waiting for a new limited edition makeup item or a new game/update! Thank you again to you and the Temptalia team! I love what you do!

PS I understand your Love Lust anxiety! I knew Narcissist blush was LE but moved too slow and still regret not getting it 🙁

Kat Avatar

Ugh I’m totally guilty of summer slump! It doesn’t help that my guildies feel the same way, so we’ve been just randomly messing with characters in D3 until Draenor comes out. Hehehe lame I know but we feel the same way, there’s only so much grinding you can do before you just get crabby and jaded.

My SO snagged a beta invite months ago, he’s gotten one for almost everything since Brood Wars I think, the lucky stinker! 😀 I stopped putting my name in because they clearly must hate me at Blizzard!

Christine Avatar

LOL! Yes, at some point, you’re like, “What am I doing with myself??” doing the same thing over and over again. It’s fun for awhile, but then it just gets to be a grind.

My husband’s been playing Hearthstone, but I haven’t gotten into it myself. We played a bit of D3 in late spring/early summer (I think it was when they did the big patch/update).

Kat Avatar

Everyone needs at least 1 or 2 pocket friends who never gets tired of grinding because that’s the person who’s literally got EVERY profession, enchant, recipe, crafted gear that exists across the max number of alts LOL. I don’t know how they stand it because I couldn’t do it but when you meet a nice one, they are probably have that FILL IN THE BLANK you need!

My SO likes Hearthstone too!! When we’re done with D3 he just stays on vent and they all keep chatting while playing Hearthstone *rolls eyes* I just couldn’t get into that one as easily!

Hehe sorry I’ve hijacked the Tom Ford thread but I have loved talking beauty and Blizzard! Hopefully you’ll let us know in Twitter or whatever you prefer how you’re liking Draenor when it comes out and we can compare notes!

Christine Avatar

It is kind of similar to ones like Estee Lauder Gelees, MAC Extra Dimension, NARS Dual Intensity, etc. etc. but it isn’t as dry, smoother. I don’t know if they’re even remotely similar in terms of chemical/ingredient/process.

In terms of the same really buttery, velvety, dense texture – similar to bareMinerals’ Ready, Tarina Tarantino’s eyeshadows. Urban Decay is kind of similar but is sometimes more powdery/crumbly in comparison – this is very smooth without being heavy.

An A is an A is an A around these parts – so there are plenty of equally lovely eyeshadow formulas!

Mariella Avatar

Christine, I’ve only got one Hourglass shadow duo (Dune) but find the texture of that to be smooth and almost lush. How would you say Hourglass compares with the texture of Tom Ford? (SOB – don’t even get me started on Tarina Tarantino and the heartbreak of her stuff being pulled from Sephora)

A Name Avatar

*Sigh* – if only if it weren’t for the Tom Ford pricing (which I think is even more ridiculous here in the UK)… I’ve liked what you’ve reviewed form this collection as a whole, and these swatches look great.

Kristen Avatar

Crap! I was waiting for your review of this in the hopes that you gave it a B and I could tell myself I shouldn’t get it! But now I know, try as I might, that I will end up adding this to my already-large nude palette collection. You Temptalia, you! But darn is it pretty!

Kristen Avatar

No apologies necessary! 😉 Of course, I was only joking. I wouldn’t be visiting your site (um, every day) if I didn’t want to be tempted!

I also like how the palette provides a good light to dark range of colors with only four shadows. It’s so hard to find a good 4-color palette that does that! I also just bought Chanel Poesie instead of Tisse Rivoli, so I was happy to see I won’t be duping (yet another reason to buy it!)

Kristen Avatar

I do love it! I like that it is not too warm. I have a lot of very warm neutrals. I was worried that only one shade was on the darker side – I have medium/med-tan olive skin and light shades often look wrong on me, esp. if shimmery. But all the shades work on me, so I am happy!

xamyx Avatar

I was thinking more of a matte crease shade… I love shimmer, but I need something to be a “defining” shade, and with all shimmer, they all tend to run together. I don’t need many matte shades, but there should be at least one, especially in a quad! With larger palettes, I don’t mind having to look grab another one, as I don’t carry them with me, but I do carry quads/quints!

Julie Avatar

This is the most beautiful nude palette I think I have seen!!! Makes me wish they looked good on me!!!!! Christine, I think this might be the best nude/neutral palette I have seen on you…& I’ve been lurking around here for about 5 years!!

Laura Avatar

I’ve been dying to see if you’d review this, and now after reading your review I’m dying to order it! I was going to choose between this palette, Chanel Tisse Rivoli or TF Orchid Haze since they all seem a bit similar. But now I know I will definitely pick up this ‘Nude Dip’ palette! Thank you!

Anne Avatar

I love Tom Ford quads, but the way you’re raving about the formula in this one is REALLY driving me to buy it. I might try and see if I can pre-order this, along with the Negligee lipstick.

Wednesday Avatar

It’s a beautiful palette and the look you created is truly elegant, but for this range of colours, I feel I have it very much covered. I would rather step up for a few more new NARS lippies or something like that. I’ve grabbed the TF foundation and concealer (yes, I managed to get my paws on both..don’t mess with a really determined beauty junkie), and I feel happier putting money on base products. Just a preference..not a judgement. I was contemplating my eyeshadow stash today as I sat down to put on a bit of makeup and it truly is ridic.. I still have plenty of territory to explore in what I already have. Pretty palette and a real winner for those who grab.

shelley Avatar

I’m really not appreciating the moving around of release date by various retailers. My MIL did presale for the both of us. And my sister-in-law was able to get it from the TF store in Chicago this morning. The chaos centered around very popular L/E releases can be a turnoff.

beka Avatar

This is so subtly beautiful! i love it. i have a birthday coming up and i’m hoping to get a trip to neiman’s in phoenix to try out (and buy of course) some tom ford stuff. i also want to hit barney’s for a surratt blush!

Bonnie Avatar

Scrolling though this post, I kept thinking “Oh 5h!t, oh 5h!t, oh 5h!t!” I was hoping you’d say there’s at least one matte (I’m a shimmer and frost gal), or that the quality is inconsistent, or that the formula is mostly good but just a tad chalky, but nope. You gave it an A+. I’m in big, big trouble. My wallet is in big, big trouble. 😛

Ami Avatar

Your reviews are always awesome, but with this launch I did notice something, since I was able to see the eye makeup at work in the shots of the lipsticks and blusher as well: Could we get a full face shot with the eyes as well as a close up? It really helps me to determine shimmer factor, as well as over all effect. For those like me, who might hesitate over the frost factor, the micro eye closeup seems doable, but the full face shows a better idea of how high frost this really is. And how gorgeously illuminating. Just a thought. Thanks.

Christine Avatar

Hi Ami,

You can actually see this here: http://www.temptalia.com/tom-ford-stroked-contouring-cheek-color-duo-review-photos-swatches

In general, though, I am unable to do take a full shot, because I am often wearing different makeup on each eye, with two different blushes, and whatever lip color I might be testing (I go through 2-4 a day) – basically, often, nothing is coordinated to create a full look as I have to double up in order to write reviews. Things may or may not coordinate, since it just depends on what I need to test, not whether it “goes” together. I apologize – if I only wrote a couple of reviews a week, it would be doable, but it’s just not feasible if I want to maintain this level of reviews 🙂

Jade Avatar

This is me all over, the shades, the formula, everything. I noticed a Tom Ford display in David Jones the other day, though it looked to be only fragrance and lipstick. I have dupes for these shades and could do SO much else with the money.

See me trying to convince myself?!

Cristen Avatar

I’m so torn on this palette! I love a neutral palette and this one looks gorgeous but as some others have noted the shades aren’t really that unique. I may opt for one of the new Cle De Peau palettes instead as I don’t mind just purchasing the “refill” pan and I have never tried anything from the brand before! Great review as always!

Sasha Avatar

How would you compare this to Chanel Raffinement (I remember you praising that quad). At first I dismissed this one because it didn’t have as much “dimension” as the Chanel but then when I looked at the swatches and eye looks side by side this one is looking pretty amazing.

Valerie Avatar

I’m so excited 😉 Both items (Nude quad and Stroke) I pre-ordered (8 days ago…yes I’m counting the dates) got high rating from you. Yay! Those are absolutely gorgeous when wet. Can you please do some looks with wet?

Sylirael Avatar

Well, isn’t this just ridiculously gorgeous? I swear, TF has this magical ability to make me drool over what are essentially ‘neutrals’. I stillhave dreams about that She Wolf palette. It’s honestly lucky that we don’t have TF here, because then I would be able to swatch in person, and the urge would be that much harder to resist!

Vanessa Avatar

Hi, I was just wondering, which would you recommend between rivoli and this? I have olive skin and I generally like to wear wood winked/all that glitters etc type of colours a lot. Thank you!

Vanessa Avatar

would you consider this shimmer on par with woodwinked and all that glitters? I have Giorgio Armani’s ETK in Rock Sand and that’s far too sparkly (and pale!) to look good on my lids 🙁

Estefania Avatar

I can’t stop looking at this!!! It’s definitely going to be my first ever Tom Ford beauty product!! (My wallet hopes it will also be the last!)

Looks gorgeous on you, Christine 🙂

Jade Avatar

I think I’ve decided – if I can get my hands on this, I want it. I really do… it’s just too stunning. There’s good chance I won’t be able to get my hands on it though, without ordering it direct from the states… and that’s if I can even find it online.

WondersReviews Avatar

TF = GORGEOUS !
In makeups, my favourite brand isn’t the old continent brands, but Tom Ford !
Since i discovered it, it’s always showing quality and creativity.
Love this palet !
You was playing WoW too Christine ?! Me too ! Stoped now cause no time.
My DH’s still playing. I’ll watch the new extension with him 😀 !
Xoxo

After over a week of looking for this all over, and calling everywhere and emailing and stuff, I finally placed my order! Yay! It is available online at the Tom Ford website. Also Nordstrom is going to launch it on monday but they said that will probably get available at some point during the weekend. Leaving this comment for those interested.

Joannie Avatar

I absolutely love TF eyeshadow quads and look forward to adding this to my collection of TF palettes.
I had to preorder via Neiman’s and will get it with their special event Sept 9, hopefully w/a few extra goodies. Thanks for displaying this so well!

Medusa Avatar

Christine, I have heard that Tom Ford’s Nude Dip and Chanel’s Tisse Rivoli are very similar. What do you think? (I don’t want to buy both if they are too similar.) If I were only to get one, which would you recommend?

Christine Avatar

The only shade that’s really similar is TF #3 to Chanel Rivoli #3, though TF’s is frostier and warmer. The other three Chanel shades are cooler-toned – Rivoli is a cooler-toned set of shades, IMO! If you like a lot of shimmer, go TF, if you prefer less, go Chanel. If you’re a huge TF fan, you might just go TF since that’s LE and Rivoli is permanent.

Angela Avatar

WOW! Have I come late to this TF “Nude Dip” party. I have several other of TF quads (Sahara Haze and Titanium Smoke) and they are probably less shimmery than Nude Dip, right? At 62 years old I know I have to be careful of shimmer but I think a light touch with make this okay for me, Christine?
Like others I was hoping you would not give it an A+ but as soon as I saw your review and how others have been raving about this I had to order…yikes!
Of course could not find it anywhere but I do have a friend in London who got one for me today at Harrod’s and is sending along to me in the USA.
So anyway, Christine, do you think I will be able to make this quad work for me if I do it dry and with a light touch? Thanks!

PJ Avatar

This is my first TF purchase. I admit that the thrill of the chase made me do it! I don’t usually gravitate toward nude and brown shadow (collected too many BB fall palettes in the past) MY verdict: The packaging of this is luxe, the pigmentation is great! My faves are shades 2 and 4. The texture to me seems maybe almost a little rough. (metallic pigments?) and you are right– it IS frosty! Out of my 3 fall eye shadow purchases for fall 2014— Chanel Poesie, TF Nude Dip, LM satin matte in Gold Seduction and Plum Allure, I find myself returning to the LM satin matte shadows the most. Their pigmentation, texture, and blend ability are superior! I wish they came in more colors and duos.

Natasha Avatar

I have recently got into Tom Ford make-up (I first used the perfume about 4-5 years ago and loved it Black Orchid and the discontinued Back Orchid Fleur) I so far (in the last month) bought 2 of the eye palettes and also an illuminating pen. I am loving the this palette (I love neutrals with browns and golds) BUT it has been sold out (basically straight away in the UK) and I am NOT prepared to pay the price people are selling them for on ebay (anything from £85-£110) I have 2 lovely ones anyway which are Golden Mink and Cognac Sable (and probably going to buy 2 more that look great that are available) which I bought on ebay for between £40-£46 BUT was prepared to pay the £63 (I am on the waitlist on Harvey Nicholls website) for this BUT No more. It really annoys me when people buy items like this just to sell and make an enormous profit on and genuine people then can’t get hold of them. I even tried the USA sites (as Tom Ford is sooooo much cheaper in the USA) BUT nowhere would ship to the UK (probably because there is such a saving if you buy it in the USA Booo hooo sob sob) So maybe one day I will get one BUT it’s looking as though I probably want as it’s a limited edition *rant over Lol* x

EH Avatar

I missed this and can’t find this. >.< I e-mailed Tom Ford Beauty just to get a reply, "No, we have no plan to restock." And I certainly would not spend $160+ to get this one from Ebay.

Christine, I was wondering if this is similar to Dior Leather Iridescence (#539), which was another elusive one for me.

Marie Avatar

I just ordered mine today thru Estee Lauder company’s Gone but not forgotten program.(800) 216-7173. It sounded like they still have a lot in stock. Goodluck!

Kay Avatar

This is a beautiful palette and I was so disappointed I missed it. I really wished he would have include this palette in his permanent collection. But, Chanel’s Tisse Rivoli came to the rescue because as it is very similar to this and in Chanel’s permanent collection. And it is awesome, too.
