Tom Ford Black Oyster Cream & Powder Eye Color ($60.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a set designed to give you an ultra sparkly, smoky eye. It pairs a sparkly silver powder eyeshadow with a silver-sparkled black cream eyeshadow together. When layered, the silver powder eyeshadow intensifies the sparkle and finish of the cream eyeshadow, but it doesn’t alter the color much. Of the four duos, this was my least favorite, as the powder eyeshadow was under-performing, though the cream eyeshadow performed well.

Black Oyster (Eye Color) is a muted, medium-dark silver with lighter, brighter silver sparkle and sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it was the least pigmented of the four duos. It had less of an underlying base color with more sparkle, which gave it a chunkier appearance applied to the eye. The texture was thin, fairly smooth with an almost wet-like feel to it, so the sparkle held together and didn’t get all over the place during application, but the chunkier texture made it look more uneven applied. I had moderate fall out while I wore it, though, with the overall color lasting for eight hours before creasing. Chanel Mysterio (102) (P, $36.00) is darker, less sparkly. Sugarpill Grand Tiara (P, $13.00) is less sparkly, warmer. Sephora Collection Iridescent Shell (110) (LE, $13.00) is darker, less sparkly. Kat Von D Moonshine (LE) is less sparkly. ColourPop Liberty (P, $5.00) is less sparkly. Make Up For Ever ME202 Iceberg Blue (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, less sparkly. Tom Ford Beauty Ice Queen #2 (P) is lighter, brighter. Urban Decay Revolt (P, $18.00) is less sparkly. Giorgio Armani Silver Chafer (35) (LE, $33.00) is cooler-toned, lighter. NARS Silver Factory (LE, $24.00) is cream. MAC Extra Silver (LE, $19.50) is less sparkly. Chanel Infini (P, $29.50) is lighter. Bobbi Brown Tinsel (LE) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Black Oyster (Cream) is a deepened black with warm undertones and silver sparkle and bluish-teal micro-shimmer. It had a more metallic finish, and it seemed like the most shimmery of the four cream eyeshadows in the collection. The formula was intensely pigmented with rich, opaque color coverage that went on smoothly and evenly. It wore well for ten and a half hours before creasing slightly. MAC Bao Bao’s Jewels #5 (LE) is lighter, powder. Lancome My French #9 (LE) is less sparkly, darker, powder. Hourglass Graphite #4 (P) is darker, less sparkly, powder. Guerlain Cygne Noir #1 (LE) is powder, less sparkly. MAC Prim and Proper (LE, $19.50) is powder. Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond (P, $21.00) is darker, less sparkly, powder. Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacklight (306) (LE, $32.00) is lighter, powder. MAC Jet Couture (P, $21.00) is very similar, powder. MAC Dark Soul (P, $21.00) is less sparkly, darker, powder. Chanel Mirifique (P, $36.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Oh, shoot! Black Oyster was the one duo I was not interested in and since I already have the other three cream shadows, I thought I’d be saving myself some money. No such luck! LOL I absolutely love that Black Oyster cream shadow and am willing to buy the duo just to get the cream. It’s stunning!

I still geel tempted to get it.. The cream is just beyond beautiful. So maybe they will re promote it on its own… I hope… One can dream, no? In any case, I don’t party no mo’ so I should just let it be.
It looks stunnimg on Christine, for sure.

I hears ya. All of the cream/powder duos have me sold. They just give so much depth and look really super lively on the eye.. but this one. I’m never out after 11:00 at night unless I have a sick animal and the large animal vet is on the way.. Wrong scene. snort laugh.

Ooh, this was the duo that I was eyeing….the look is dramatic and gorgeous, but the price is painful, and the powder shadow didn’t get an A. I just ordered a bunch of gray/silver MUFE Artist Shadows during the Sephora sale, and I think I can replicate the look for less, plus powder shadows will have a longer shelf life than cream. So I’m going to give the MUFE ones a try first.

This looks gorgeous! The cream eye colour does anyway. I have a shimmery black cream eyeshadow that I love (Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Colour in Caviar) but this looks to have even more shimmer! Not sure I will splash out on this but I can still add it to my wishlist.

Have you tried the Shiseido cream eyeshadows? I love them. They recently released a few more colours so I got the one in Fog, which is a great everyday colour. They stay so well despite having a really creamy texture. If they can last on my oily lids then they should last on anybody! 🙂

I am kind of loving this look – the greasey sparkley black look. I might wear it 14 times in the whole year. I just can’t justify that $60 price tag.

Although the powder shadow doesn’t perform well, you made it look like it was winning an Oscar in this look! The cream is just stunning alone,I agree. And,I’m not too happy to pay an extra $20 for some shimmer. But, since there is no option to buy the cream separate, I’m taking the bait. As much as I hate to admit, this Tom guy has me and my wallet wrapped around his makeup creating finger like no other! And I am pretty positive I am not the only one. 🙂

temptalia how do you apply your tom ford cream shadow? which is the best way in your opinion? and i tried applying multiple layers to build the color but it keeps sheering out. any suggestions?

I feel like I have dupes for these in my collection, but I just wanted to say I love the smoky/sparkly eye look! What color did you use on the lower lash line? I think I’m going to have to steal this one on my next girls’ night out! 😉

Again – totally gorgeous on you – with red lipstick it would be a winner. But I can see why you gave the silver colour a C – it is not as pigmented as the other shades in the collection.
I have just swatched shellshock from Vice 2 with Black Oyster and have found that Shellshock is very similar to Black Oyster, but of much better quality and pigmentation. A good dupe I would say.

love the combo, not the price 🙁 The eyeshadow almost has that mineral/baked look to it, wonder if I can find something that has that similar look (for far less $$)!!! Maybe my Family Silver e/s from eons ago..

Wow this looks fab on you…think it deserves a higher rating as has made me feel like I ‘need’ this when previously I was quite content with my ‘naked bronze’ pot (gorgeous) & contemplating getting ‘midnight sea’ (despite having Spring 2015!). May just have to purchase black oyster now altho the way Tom Ford seems to be working his products lately, they’ll be an even better super combo for Fall that will include ‘the’ ultimate cream bases & celestials in 1 glorious compact 🙂 🙁
