Tom Ford Black Cherry Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches
Tom Ford Black Cherry Nail Lacquer
Tom Ford Black Cherry Nail Lacquer ($32.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a blackened burgundy with cool, pink-ish undertones and a cream finish. “Black Cherry” is a pretty apt description, I’d say! Cult Nails Lamestain (P, $12.00) is warmer. Urban Decay Wrecked (LE) is lighter. MAC Blueblood (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Guerlain Lou-Ling (LE, $23.00) is lighter. Chanel Provocation (P, $27.00) is lighter, warmer. Chanel Accessoire (P, $27.00) is warmer, lighter. Rescue Beauty Lounge Drifter (LE, $20.00) is lighter. Color Club Fashion Moment (P) is similar. China Glaze Naughty & Nice (LE, $7.50) is very similar. Zoya Anja (P, $9.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
This is a new, limited edition shade from the brand for fall. It’s a very rich, deep, dark shade that looks mostly black under most lighting conditions, but it does look more interesting in the sunlight, as the burgundy-berry tones get accentuated. The polish had fully opaque color after two coats, though it was quite pigmented with just one, and it dried down to a glossy shine. I don’t think you’d have to put a top coat on to achieve the shine as a result. The consistency was thinner, and the brush seemed to keep a lot of the polish on it, so it required a little extra care to avoid over-applying. I typically get a week with very minor tip wear with Tom Ford’s lacquer formula.

So. Glossy. Must. Stop. Staring. Too. Bad. Can’t. Stop. *drool*
Well, great. It’s 1 am here and now I want a bowl of Sauerkirsche… GEE THANKS CHRISTINE.
😉 <3
LOL! Sorrrry!
I’d rather spend the big bucks on a really interesting color that I can’t get from other brands. This is like a lot of other colors I already own.
That’s what I would do personally 🙂 (But that usually doesn’t come into play when blogging, lol!) I never wear colors like these myself!
To me, it looks very similar to my Chanel Rouge Noir (or Vamp as it is also called). I’m a sucker for this colour and glad that TF created a version for his brand.
Too bad it is LE! 🙁 You would think it would be permanent!
Ah now this is stunning! The closest I have seen something to this was the Clinique Black Honey.. Looks stunning beautiful gorgeous on your hands! 🙂
Sounds like it would be close!
I was going to get this one, but got Victoria by NailsInc instead… I am super impressed with the formula, and though is a tad lighter than this one, works as a dupe for me, and performs like a dream.
That’s awesome! 😀
Super dark blackened red is one of my favorite nail polish colors. L’Oreal makes one just like this (maybe sliiiiightly more red) called Haute Couture Red. Actually they have a few almost-black colors, the others being more purplish.
Thanks so much for sharing, Ginny!
That is a pretty colour!
It is! Nice for fall.
Ooooh, sexy! Can nail polish be sexy? I guess it can. This is definitely a sexy color for me!
Abso-freaking-lutely!
I would also suggest Lincoln Park After Dark as a dupe for this. It’s my favorite nail polish color of life.
Thanks for the suggestion!
So pretty! The color and shine looks right up my alley
I love the glossy shine!
I like this a lot, even though it seems pretty dupable! It looks almost like a jelly finish.
It must be that really glossy finish!
This is beautiful but it reminds me of Model’s Own Red ‘n’ Black a LOT so yes, budget dupes are out there.
That’s great!
Love! You should add OPI Black Cherry Chutney to the dupe list. I own that one and am curious how they compare. Have yet to buy a Tom Ford beauty product. Might pull the trigger on a polish first.
Hey M!
Unless I own it and have swatched it, I can’t personally say it’s a dupe, but I always invite readers to share or add their dupes 🙂
Isn’t that just gorgeous for fall? I’d think I’d go for a dupe, though, and save some cash. Very nice, though!
The color is perfect for fall!
Gorgeous color and luxury! So on-trend for fall-winter this year. A dup would be Revlon Seductive, and Vixen is almost as deep.
Totally agree, WildDove. Will have to look into those Revlon options!
I love these nearly-black shades so, so much and the name for this is perfect! The formulation looks stunning and the glossiness is crazy.
The name is apt!
OMG I NEED IT!
I love how rich it is!
NYC makes a polish called Black Cherry and it looks just the same and very glossy!
Nice!
It’s a good thing there isn’t a coordinating lipstick, *and* Tom Ford is too inconvenient to procure, because I really like this one-however, $32 is a bit steep for nail polish, esecially when one owns at least 5 similar ones…
It definitely feels like a shade you could find something similar to at a variety of price points/brands.
This beautiful, deep red, almost completely black is one of my favorite colors for fall, although I manage to wear it occasionally year-round. I doubt I will get the Tom Ford version, between the price and the limited edition status, but I do think it is beautiful and has amazing shine for no top coat. My favorite other version at the moment is “Lucy” by Julep or “Mary Lee” by Julep, but very similar although Mary Lee has a satin finish instead of the deep shine. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for sharing those possible dupes!
So very autumny. I like it a lot, but I still want to keep my nails bright. I have quite a few sort of like this, I think. Time to do an inventory, I think 🙂
I never reach for vampy shades like this! In general, I don’t like a lot of red polishes unless they’re shimmery!
Oh my… Your tempting me! Not sure I need this coz I get limited wear outta my other similar dark shades- but LE you say? Hmmm.
I’m sure you have something similar already!
I wish this was more cherry than black, just a tiny bit more!
