Tom Ford Aphrodisiac Lip Color Review, Photos, Swatches

Tom Ford Aphrodisiac Lipstick
Tom Ford Aphrodisiac Lip Color

Tom Ford Aphrodisiac Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright pop of blue-based medium-dark pink that has a subtle sheen in its finish. MAC Moxie is matte and slightly redder. NARS Carthage is bluer-based. Guerlain Champs-Elysees is redder. MAC Full Fuchsia is very similar, slightly more shimmer. Tom Ford Pure Pink is only a little lighter. NARS Funny Face is redder.

It’s a high-quality lipstick formula–opaque in one pass, long-wearing (six hours), hydrating, and doesn’t bleed or feather on me. It’s comfortable to wear and easy to apply, as it’s very nice on and wears well and fades evenly. It is lightly scented with a sweetened vanilla (very similar to MAC’s) but has no detectable taste. Is it gorgeous? Absolutely. Is it dupeable? Yes, definitely. Whether the formula is worth the luxury price tag is up to you, but if the color appeals to you and the price makes you cringe, there are several permanent dupes available (listed above).

This color is really gorgeous on you! Though if I think by comparison I might splurge on the guerlain vs this one because I like the finish and slightly longer wear. Granted it’s hard to tell colors based on online swatches. Complexion and natural lip color make such a difference! Hopefully I’ll be able to try some guerlain out in neiman marcus, nordstrom and sephora don’t carry them in stores near me.

See, this is why I love looking at your swatches & photos. It looks so much prettier on than it does just in the tube. I never would have thought twice about it without the pics of you wearing it.

Tom Ford Lipstick are the only makeup item available in my country-boo hoo- but they are “morish”- They are so comfortable to wear and this colour is so saturated -love it!

beautiful, but too warm for me. i’m paler than christina hendricks, with cool undertones, and carthage, which is bluer than this, looks too warm on me. have you tried smashbox’s fuchsia flash? amazing fuchsia matte lipstick with very strong blue undertones that would look striking on your skin and an amazing moisture-rich texture i’d never expect from a matte lipstick.

Veronica Avatar

I *adore* Smashbox’s lipstick formula. I own Grenadine from their Be Legendary line, and while my lips are very finicky and dry out easily even with the most moisturizing formulas, I can wear it for hours without feeling the need to re-moisturize. As soon as I finish up my Project Pan, I plan on picking up a few other shades from them. I’m really surprised the the formula doesn’t get more attention.

I was really skeptical about TF’s line & prices, but I did break down and get a lipstick in Cherry Lush and I can see what the hype is about. The color payoff is amazing, it’s so lightweight and just a great lipstick overall. Can’t wait to try this one on at Saks 😉

These are so pretty but I just can’t help but get annoyed when I see your brand-new TF lipsticks and the logo carved into the tip is all jacked up. For $48.00 everything about the product must be beyond pristine.

I cannot agree more. I have brought several Tom Ford items…one lipstick, two eyeshadow palette, two blushers, and two brushes. The packaging is not pristine. The label is pasted lopsided on the back of the eyeshadow palette. And the lipstick was nicked also. Yes, in time I will use it and muck it up….but for that price, it should be pristine. Neiman Marcus is sure nice to let me check my packaging before I bought them at different times, but that lipstick is sealed so you cannot check it before you purchase. For that price, that packaging should be perfect.

Beautiful! I’d love to try a Tom Ford lipstick because they sound and look amazing. I just can’t decided yet which one I want to buy, I don’t want one that’s very dupeable because then I probably already own something similar.

I think this is a bit too bright for me, but it’s a gorgeous color on you. I still want Casablanca and Indian Rose from his line, though. Must remember that next time I go hunting for lipstick!

I feel like I’m the only person who is not a fan of Tom Ford’s lipstick formula! I bought Wild Ginger a while ago, and it just does not work well for me at all. It’s not particularly creamy (it tugs on my lips during application) and it is drying– like, it starts flaking off within an hour or so. Maybe I just got a dud tube? :(. It’s too bad because I love the bold color.

Veronica Avatar

Lovely. A bold fuschia is always a plus in my book. 😉 I do echo your hopes, though, that the line will eventually come out with more unique colors.

Wow!! This is definitely a must have lipstick. The color looks amazing and glamorous. Wearing this kind of lipstick will make a person have sexy looking lips. However, I am kinda worried if it dries out the skin.

hey christine! what is the difference between the tom ford lipsticks with the white packaging vs the tom ford with the brown/black packaging? thanks! 🙂

Hi Christine! I was wondering what blush you are wearing with this awesome lip! I didn’t see it in the makeup used section above. I’m just curious as to what colors you recommend when wearing a bright lip color like this. Thanks so much!
