theBalm Shady Lady Eyeshadow: All About Alex

theBalm All About Alex Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “golden khaki olive.”  It’s this darkened, golden-toned khaki brown with a faint hint of olive green micro-shimmer.  It’s subtle but it’s there; more noticeable when reflected against light than in a static swatch.  All of theBalm’s single eyeshadows are in simple cardboard packaging with a mirror inside.

my thoughts on the formula: theBalm’s eyeshadows are soft, silky smooth, and packed with pigment. They apply evenly, blend out beautifully, and aren’t powdery at all (sometimes a side effect of really soft eyeshadows). I find they are so easy to use, because they apply without fall out and blend with other shadows effortlessly. Worth noting, too, is individual eyeshadows come with 0.12 oz., which is just over double the average eyeshdaow–and at a rather affordable price tag.

Hi Christine!

I didnt know where to ask this question, so pardon me for asking you about it over here..

Could you please recommend which are the basic brushes (types) for a beginner for eyeshadow application?? Like..i read somewhere about a pointy end brush for eyeshadow or something?

Thanks!

I have this already and I LURVE it. I’m really impressed at how theBalm have been able to make so many shades universally easy to wear.

An awesome dupe for this is a brand that so many women have forgotten as it used to me our “mother’s brand” but Mary Kay has truly risen just the way I think Wet N Wild has done some kind of transformation that is crazy. I am using their shadows more than my Senna, MAC, etc. lately. Anyway, MK has a lovely olive shade that is so close to this and it is mineral but pressed mineral. I love their packaging:)

What a lovely color. I have never looked at these packages. Would these be easy to depot? It looks like cardboard, which would be very easy.

I tried this today at the store on my way home from the gym. I love the colour but how well did it wear, Christine? By the time I got home (a very short drive) it had VANISHED from my hand. Now, I know hands aren’t eyes but still, I thought there would be enough left to at least compare it to shadows I have. Also – I just have to RANT about the fact that the CDN dollar is now worth more than the US and this product is $22 here – SIX bucks more! The Fresh Soy Face Cream I bought for my daughter was something like 8 or 10 bucks more than in the US. I want to SCREAM!

Thanks, Christine….so there is a BIG difference between wear on the hands and wear on the eyes. I will be picking this up next week, as I loved how the colour looked swatched here and “in the flesh”.

Christine, I went back the other day and bought it. And all I can say is that I absolutely LOVE the colour. I’m just trying to restrain myself from going back and checking out more the shadows but I can see this one becoming one of my most used shadows! I’d never have even heard of it or noticed it had it not been for your review!

So glad I checked here for swatches of this. I ALMOST ordered online thinking it would be more dark golden olive green, but I’m reading more of a khaki brown..and I have at least 4 others shades that look amazingly similar to this. A penny saved…for another shade 😉 LOL!!
