The Scarlet Season: Guerlain Rouge Sultan Cashmere Lip Gloss
The Scarlet Season: Guerlain Rouge Sultan Cashmere Lip Gloss
Guerlain Rouge Sultan Cashmere Lip Gloss ($28.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a liquid lipstick in the shade of vibrant, orange-based red. It’s a fiery red that’s definitely a showstopping shade of scarlet. It has a semi-matte finish (even though it’s described as matte), because it still has a slight sheen to it. I would describe Guerlain’s Cashmere Lip Glosses to having a similar feel as Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques, but they’re thinner and a little more drying on the lips (though I wouldn’t say that they are drying!). Rouge Sultan wears incredibly well, because it really hugs lips and lasts me hours and gets through a cup of coffee. Although Rouge Sultan is a limited edition shade from Guerlain’s Terracotta collection, it is still available for purchase through both Nordstrom
and Sephora
.
What about you? Would you wear this red?
The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

LOve this shade. I have this formula in Rose Pondichery and it has reached HG status for me. I wish Guerlain would make these permanent and produce more shades.
These feel similar to MAC lac lustre’s; the shade COY was my favourite lipstick of all time and I haven’t a drop left 🙁 Finding it again would complete me 😀
I loved the formula, too, Kristina! Have you tried Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques? I find that they’re similar to Guerlain’s — they just tend to have a slightly glossier finish, BUT feel very similar.
I have a few of the Chanel’s and they are beautiful.
I just haven’t been able to find a shade dupe for Coy in any makeup brand for years, it was perfect for my lips and complexion.
Let’s cross our fingers that either Guerlain or Chanel will put out a similar shade this Spring or Summer.
Have you checked eBay? I know it’s old, but hey, it might turn up 🙂
These look nicely pigmented and opaque as a gloss. I agree that it has a similar coverage as Chanel Rouge Allure Lacques but not as shiny.
Yep! The glossiness seems to be one of the big difference between the two!
I have both rouge sultan and rose pondichery, and love them, rose pondichery is a great everyday shade, and rouge sultan is great for a sexy look:D:D:D
I also have chanel rouge allure in santal, which caught my attention after you reviewd it Christine. Thanks for it:D:D:D
Yayy!! 😀
So glad you got Santal — I’m wearing it today, ha!
This is really pretty, but I would still say Chanel Dragon looks so much more fierce. There is just something missing with this one that just doesn’t do it for me, I can’t explain what…
I have about 30 or so red shades left to try that I haven’t tried before, but Dragon is still my front-runner–I imagine a big part of that is I think it looks really good on me, which is not something I have in common with a lot of reds (though pretty, I don’t love them on me as much!).
I LOOOOVE this one, and I didn’t know i could still buy it!! Thanks for the info christine! I’m gonna buy 2 more, cause this is MYYYY shade, it looks really good on me. lol.It is flawless.
true love.
No problem, Fidigum!
I love this one! I had a hard time finding it when I got it a few months back. I finally got them to sell me the un-opened testers at a department store!!! It is a great stain/base for topping with other red lippes as well!
Aww! I’m so glad you were able to track ’em down and convince them!
Hi Christine
Have you tried Rouge G Greta 22? I’m torn between that, Dragon and Rouge Sultan as they all look similar in shade. What do you think? What are the differences other than form? Also kind of OT but I think you should try Chanel’s Russet Moon if you haven’t already. SO pretty and I think it’d look lovely on you 🙂
I did — http://www.temptalia.com/guerlain-greta-le-rouge-g-de-guerlain-lipstick-review-photos-swatches-lip-swatches
I’m all set on red lipsticks/glosses for the series, but maybe next year for Russet Moon (I’m about all red’d out, LOL!)!
