It’s usually when I’ve watched someone on YouTube, which are often makeup artists when I do watch, try something I haven’t seen before or in a slightly tweaked way.
In general, anything that doesn’t stay on the skin for long doesn’t need to be expensive to do its job–cleansers and the like! I also tend to look for good, budget-friendly options for makeup wipes and body sunscreen. I tend to splurge on moisturizers, serums, and lip balm.
I don’t think I actually do skimp, ha, ha, based on the volume I buy in. If I take off my blogger hat, then I would say I’d be more likely to skimp on nail lacquer, liquid eyeliner, maybe mascara. I find myself more into buying products that are really good, so if it was cheaper, awesome, but...
I don’t know if any one brand really speaks to me as an individual, but I have always dug the Burberry check print/pattern, so I loved when they came out with gunmetal packaging that feels like metal (not plastic).

I like black, only because it hides use better, so it doesn’t look as dirty. They’re also more forgiving if you clean and can’t get every last bit of makeup out of it, too.
I tend to repeat the items I take with me traveling (for me, it’s usually the rare time when I am not testing as extensively, so I pick my favorites), but they are products that are part of my regular stash, not just for travel.
