Is the deep blue in Mars a satin or matte finish?
I’ll be grabbing both of these. I need them like I need two holes in my head but I’m really impressed by the swatches AND the low prices!
These are both pretty summery palettes.
Are these palettes really unoriginal or am I just jaded? Lol
(Gridlock is a very pretty shade, though.)
Sol for sure. Mar I could see being a nice palette to pick up if you were eyeing something like Born to Run.
Actually, at only $12, I could see picking up Mar just for the blue and teal shades.
And considering how easy it is to depot their palettes (thank you colourpop, I wish more companies would do this!!), it’s especially doable to do just that!
Gridlock is the one standout for me, too. And with the price, I can feel ok about maybe not using every single other shade.
I have had UD Born to Run in my sights but Mar looks like an abbreviated version and looks as though it would be more usable.
If ColourPop would have thrown a green shade into Mar I would be all over it. Alas, a missed opportunity. I think I am going to wait until I see the Born To Run palette and make a decision. Sol has so many shades that are similar to other palettes out that I can’t justify it, even if the color story spoke to me. I am sure the quality will be nice and ColourPop usually does pretty good palettes and they are so reasonably priced I could see a lot of people snapping both of these up.
Jaclyn Hill and Morphe are coming out with $15 revamped eyeshadow palletes that include some nice green colors!
This is like Dream St extended, and split into two palettes. I kiiind of want Mar but I have Dream Street! I think I’ll wait for dupes on the sea green shade, since that’s the only one that’s really unique.
Floaties is calling my name! Otherwise I feel like these are retreads of the summer palettes we’ve been seeing, but if you haven’t gotten sucked in before now, what a great set of options!
Loving the look you did using Mar! Very inspired to try and do something very similar using UD Beached and Born To Run palettes, since it’s pretty obvious that I’ve got a “thing” for pairing coppery shades with rich oceanic teals and seafoam greens, myself!
As for these 2 CP palettes; I’m skipping. I see too much sameness, not enongh variation between shades going on in both. Too bad that a few of these aren’t pressed singles, though! Motel is gorgeous!
If Mar were in reverse ratio, with 6 blues/greens and 3 neutrals, i’d be all over it. Barely use the colors in the balance of the palette. But it’s lovely and swatches well.
These look amazing as always!
The Colour Pop Mar palette looks like a fun, summery palette with its jewel tones and other shades to make it workable. Lovely.
Yes! Mar please! Thank you very much!
I really like Sol. I like the color Hotel. What is holding me back is …where the ingrdients to make the eyeshadows come from. While the entire package is from USA, I am reminded that one of your readers mentioned the ingredients could not br from the USA. She wasn’t referring to Colourpop but in general.
Yes, I am foolish to think Urban Decay or Chanel may not have ingredients for the product from China, but does not indicate it is made in China.
On the other note, I thank you, Christine, for letting me express my opinions so easily on your blog. I don’t have to sign into some account to state my comments.
A brand owner that I know mentioned that she was originally thinking to manufacture her line in US, but almost all the ingredients were coming from overseas, and a lot from China, so she manufactured in China instead since the US ended up being more of a middle man. I’m sure there are places where that might be less common, but when I tried to get more insight on what qualifies cosmetics to be labeled “made in X” was a lot more confusing, especially as it did not seem ingredient origin mattered (but again, I wasn’t able to get far when I tried digging into this awhile ago). I know that there’s also the issue in fashion where they actually import cheaper workers from emerging countries, like Vietnam, and have them work inside the country so that they can keep their labels but cut labor costs.
Yeah when I looked up actually ingredients for raw cosmetic very few are sourced in the Americas. So to think that everything is made/sourced in the USA is almost impossible.
Formulated and mixed/pressed in the USA is more like it with that label. Some are even smart enough to mention where the packing is made when outside the US.
That’s really interesting. It would be so awesome to see more companies (not just the beauty industry) Doing more steps of the manufacturing in the US but I just don’t see that happening. The bigger the company, if they want to be competitive, it’s almost impossible. I need to start doing more research on the topic.
The fact that CP put these in plastic peeks my interest.
I’m a little confused as to why they’d include 3 pigments in an eyeshadow palette that aren’t recommended for use on eyes.
I love those coppery and teal colors in Mar but man, I’d never use a lot of the other ones. I’d definitely go with Sol
It is pretty par for the course – many brands use pigments that aren’t technically eye safe by US’ FDA but are approved for eye use in other countries (usually Canada/EU), so they disclaim it so they don’t get in trouble.
Also again the FDA is paid to process other peoples tests to prove they are safe. And no company in the US wants to pay the FDA for their paid tests to process fun colour cosmetics as it rather high for small batch/limited edition shades.
They are beautiful, but I have most of these colors. I miss a true dark green either alone or in palettes.
I’m eye sol for sure now, I’ve been wanting one of these orange palettes but just have been unable to commit to one. B and B is just gold enough for me to consider that on a well rounded orange palette.
I’m just kicking myself as I placed an order 3 weeks ago for the complexion products. lol
I broke down and bought both. Sigh. All it took was the email saying they were almost sold out and I was a goner. I LOVE the look Christine created with Mar. Stunning!
