Favorite black eyeshadow? MUFE Artist Shadow in S-102 (Onyx).

Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Smudged along the lashlines for a smokey or grungy effect. I don’t wear black eyeshadow a lot, though.

Your skin tone/coloring: NC20 ish neutral light olive
Favorite black eyeliner? I just lined my eyes this morning with Tarte Tartiest Paint Liner. I want to love it, but I don’t. My lids are tricky. Anyone over the age of 45 with smaller hooded eyes have recommendations?
Favorite black eyeshadow? the Black shadow in the Saucebox Etude palette. I do not typically wear black eyeshadow..
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Push brush on lash line.

I’m 48 with hooded eyes. I love a liquid eyeliner that’s a Japanese one. The brand name on Amazon usually shows up as “Kiss Me Heroine,” “Heroine Make,” “Isehan KissMe Heroine,” or some combination of those words. The product is “SP smooth liquid eyeliner super keep 01 / Black 0.4ml Waterproof.” Kiss Me Heroine Make has a mascara I love as well.

Sigh Amazon canada.. 52 bucks plus 6 for shipping. They gouge on the website for certain items which can be had for a fraction in the USA. Throwing it on the wishlist anyway. Every once in awhile when they will pull in stock to their actual warehouse the price takes a nose dive.

Christy Avatar

WHAT? That’s bananas! It was $14 US for me, including shipping. Imomoko or Sasa might be better. My daughter likes the Kat Von D eyeliner and it looks similar. I’ll try to remember to try that out tomorrow.

Your skin tone/coloring: Cocoa/Dark Brown
Favorite black eyeliner? hmmm…I’m partial to KVD Tattoo Liner and Stila Liquid Liner but I also use Almay liquid liner (best drug store ever in my opinion) and usually I’ll pick up a new one that I haven’t tried before if the need arises.
Favorite black eyeshadow? I don’t wear a lot of black eye shadow, my eyes are too small for smoky eye looks, I start looking like I can’t see LOL. The blacks I have are in my semi-chocolate palette, a Smashbox holiday palette and a UD palette. For the black I’ve used the most, I guess the Semi-chocolate one.
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? I rarely ever do….honestly, hmm I don’t use black eye shadow other than as a crease accent.

Julia Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light/medium, warm to neutral
Favorite black eyeliner? MJ Highliner in Blaquer is a good one. Of course I have a million UD Perversion pencils and it’s pretty good, too.
Favorite black eyeshadow? I kind of hate black eyeshadow…
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Skip it! ? If I want to darken anything I always reach for dark brown or occasionally charcoal instead, and I’ve never been successful in tightlining with powder- I just prefer pencil eyeliner.

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, warm, blue eyes, light brown hair w/copper highlights
LOL, this is an easy one for me:
Favorite black eyeliner? I don’t use
Favorite black eyeshadow? I don’t use
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? None

Karen Avatar

Colouring: NC 15, Nars Gobi. Light with warm undertones.
Favourite black liner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liquide Liner in Trouper.
Favourite black eyeshadow: Urban Decay Crave!
Favourite way to use black eyeshadow in a look: I always use UD Crave eyeshadow when I do a winged liner to fill in the small trangular area where my wing joins my mobile eyelid because I have hooded eyes and have to do a fade effect with black eyeshadow to make it all look cohesive. I do wear winged liner on most days, love how it looks!

Tammy Avatar

Skin tone: Medium Warm

Favorite black liner: NARS eye paint in Black Valley

Favorite black eyeshadow: Kat Von D Black Metal (a matte black in my Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette)

I use black eyeshadow sparingly in place of eyeliner or to set my eyeliner. I sometimes line my waterline with black eyeshadow (Black Metal is surprisingly good when I wear it in my waterline or push it into my upper lash line to make my lashes look fuller.)

Your skin tone/coloring: light, cool
Favorite black eyeliner? Stila black liquid liner pen even though I prefer a wand and it dries out
Favorite black eyeshadow? Crave from UD Naked Basics. After using random black eyeshadows (and growing up with Carbon lol) I was honestly astounded by its ability to be pigmented yet smooth and blendable. Carbon isn’t ANY of those things!
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? In the outer corners.

Lea Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: V. Fair/Alabaster with pink undertones

Favorite black eyeliner? Tom Ford High Def liner

Favorite black eyeshadow? I don’t use a ton of black shadow; but I do prefer the Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Shadow #1

Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? I was surprised by how pretty a look was from an MUA – a hot pink shadow in the center of the mobile lid and a black shadow on the inner and outer corners (built up to the intensity you want) and blended with the center pink color and a while matte highlight and black or forest green tightline. It makes the green in my hazel eyes pop and is super, super pretty. Nothing I ever would have come up with myself but I love it and get compliments every time I wear it.

Courtney Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones, medium brown hair, brown eyes
Favorite black eyeliner? Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper; close second is Wet n Wild MegaLiner Liquid Liner in black.
Favorite black eyeshadow? Matt Ahmed from the Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? I really only use black eyeshadow a little on the outer corner to deepen my look. I rarely use it however, as black isn’t very forgiving and I’m not the best at applying makeup haha.

Kimberly Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-medium, warm leaning neutral.
Favorite black eyeliner: KVD Tattoo Liner in Trooper
Favorite black eyeshadow: Whatever the black shadow from the UD Gwen Stefani palette is called.
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look: I’m very boring, so I only use black eyeshadow across the lashline and past it to extend the outer corners of my eyes like a liner!

Nancy T Avatar

Your skintone/coloring: Medium w/olive undertones MAC NC37-40, deep brunette, teal-green eyes w/gold flecks.

Favorite black eyeliner: I have 3 “cannot live withouts”! Essence Midnight In Paris Gel Pot liner, Marc Jacobs Blacquer Highliner, and as of September’s Ipsy bag, Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner.

Favorite black eyeshadow: UD Blackout and MAC Nehru, equally, but for very different reasons. Blackout as a quick deposit of KAPOWIE black. And Nehru for one I can control the intensity of and build up as I go, plus I love that it’s a softer black and more blendable. Mad that MAC d/c’d it!!!

Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look: To deepen up my outer V or cut crease, to set and smoke out black pencil eyeliner, and incorporated into taupey or blue-gray smokey eye looks.

Mariella Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool-toned
Favorite black eyeliner? For around my eyes, Sephora Retractable Waterproof in 01/Black and, for my waterline, Marc Jacobs Blacquer skinny liner pencil – I LOVE that thing, which really surprised me
Favorite black eyeshadow? Not a true black, but I LOVE Typographic from MAC and also Legendary Black (also MAC)
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Smudged around my upper lashes for a softer but smoky liner look and very, very lightly to deepen a crease/outer corner.

Sarah Avatar

Favorite black eyeliner? In pencil form, UD Crave has been my go-to for a smoky soft black. In a gel pot, it’s one from Beauty Evolved. I liked the single so much I bought a set of 6 colors, but oddly enough, they were all significantly drier!
Favorite black eyeshadow? No shock to anyone who’s read my comments before–the black shadow in the Paula’s Choice Nude Matte palette! Wet n Wild Panther single is coming close though.
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? On a flat liner brush and smudged against the last line. That, or smoked out in the very outer corner and crease with a colorful metallic lid!

LindaP Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light to medium warm

Favorite black eyeliner? MAC Black Trak followed by KVD Tattoo Liner. I have been using less expensive dupes –Essence black and L’Oreal thin liner–and they are very close.

Favorite black eyeshadow? Don’t really have one. The black in the KVD S&L palette works for me. (A horrible one was a black eyeshadow by Kevin Aucoin. I have a single in 110 and I can’t use it anywhere for the fallout.)

Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Against the lash line and sometimes in the corner. I don’t use it much.

Erica Avatar

Skintone/coloring: light, NC20

Favorite black eyeliner: I guess my MAC Fluidline in Blitz n Glitz? I don’t really wear black and usually opt for gunmetal grey or a bronzey brown

Favorite Black eyeshadow: The only one I own is MAC’s Carbon. It is ok. I really don’t wear black eyeshadow.

Favorite way to wear: Outer V or to deepen crease color. Only do that occasionally though

Anne Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: Fair w/pink undertones
Favorite black eyeliner? Tie — Chanel and Marc Jacobs
Favorite black eyeshadow? — MUFE matte
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? — Carefully (lol); usually on outer V w/tuxedo look

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair; neutral-ish. I’m wearing Nars Deauville for foundation right now.
Favorite black eyeliner? Marc Jacobs highliner (they NEED a matte brown one!!!)
Favorite black eyeshadow? Melt dark matter
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? To darken the outercorners/ add intensity

Dianne Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones
Favorite black eyeliner: Stila Stay All Day liquid liner.
Favorite black eyeshadow: UD Crave
Favorite way to use black shadow in a look: For everyday looks, I use black shadow as liner, applied with a liner brush.

Lydia Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Tan with warm undertones (NC45-47)
Favorite black eyeliner? Makeup Geek Immortal and MAC Feline.
Favorite black eyeshadow? Makeup Geek Corrupt.
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Blended along the upper and lower lashlines for a simple smokey eye or to intensify any other look. I used to wear just black eyeshadow or liner all the time so it’s still an essential in my makeup routine, but thankfully I’ve finessed my technique with it.

Anne Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: NC15 with some redness

Favorite black eyeliner? UD Perversion is the one I most use, but I think the MJ one is fantastic as well, just pricier

Favorite black eyeshadow? Usually MAC Carbon but if I’m using the Naked 2 I’ll usually just use Blackout.

Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Es liner for either a full on grungy-smudgy effect, or for a very soft liner look. Occasionally to smoke out a look in the crease or outer corner.

Your skin tone/coloring: light to med /neutral to warm
Favorite black eyeliner? UD perversion and KVD Tattoo
Favorite black eyeshadow? Absolute fave is an old Avon one I’ve hoarded a few singles of-_Warm Black and another called Black Mineral I think. They look good as stand alone colors for monochrome look.
Favorite way to use black eyeshadow in a look? Most common is for liner and crease and V darkening for daytime looks. I use other blacks in palettes for this. My truly favorite way though is a dark eye using my stashed Warm Black. I will wear it day or night. For daytime I concentrate color 2/3 of lid and blend and smoke to the crease so it doesn’t look too harsh for work. At my age I feel like if I feel like wearing black shadow for daytime I should, as the days I can pull it off are surely numbered!

skin tone nc 15-20, mid to dark brown hair, dark green eyes
i like ud zero and perversion. i am too clumsy to use liquid liners.. and anyway, old punkdays are over, need to use more muted browns or grays “sigh”
favourite dark shade is for decades club and the ud version lounge. they appear almost black on my lids, so i can count them.
i use the liners to strenghten mascara und the powders to blend the liners.

CJ Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: Fair neutral NW13, olive green eyes.
Favorite black eyeliner: NARS Via Veneto – I use it to tightline and waterline when I really want my eyes to stand out.
Favorite black eyeshadow: Rain from SauceBox in the Creme de la Creme palette or MAC Nehru or Black Tied.
Favorite way to use black shadow in a look: I use it sparingly on a small liner brush or pencil brush to make a little wing and smudge out the upper corner of my eyes. I don’t use it very often, though – I favor more neutrals and purples.

Emese Avatar

Fair olive, MAC C1
I have hooded eyes and used to use eyeliner all the time until I realized it’s a no-no for hooded eyes. In those days I used brown gel eyeliner from Catrice.
I now use pencil for my upper water line every time I do my mu. None of them are perfect, but I alternate between these: Bare Minerals Round the Clock 11pm, Inglot back kohl pencil and MAC Technakohl liner in Graphblack.
I don’t often use black eyeshadow and don’t have many but the best one I have is from The Balm Nude ‘Tude palette, Serious.
I just use it to deepen the outer third of my eyelid.
