Your skin tone/coloring: “Golden Dark.” MAC NC45/50, Nars Macao, MUFE 178
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Makeup Geek Homecoming. It’s beautiful!
Go-to everyday blush? MAC Raizin. It’s so beautiful and subtle on my skin.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Nars is my favourite ever when it comes to complexion products. Probably a tie between All Day Luminous (Macao) and Velvet Matte Skin Tint (Seychelles). Bonus points to the latter for having SPF built in!

Coloring: fair/cool. About nw10
Go-to taupe: for lid: l’oreal Pain au Chocolat, although it’s more coppery in some lighting, taupe in others, or Tarte Up Too Slate. I also like UD Mushroom, but I only have it in the Smoked palette, so I always forget to use it. For my crease, I like NYX Over the Taupe. It’s matte, with purple undertones…but very sheer. Since I’m fair, I actually like sheerer mattes for my crease & above.

Go-to blush: don’t really have one right now…been shopping around (including in my stash!), but haven’t found the perfect one yet! Making do with Becca beach tint soufflé in lychee/Opal, Too Faced Sweethearts in Something about Berry, and Clinique plum pop. Too warm/too dark/too cool…I need to find just right!

Go-to foundation: for a quick look, when I don’t want full coverage or am in a hurry, I usually grab Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse in the lightest color. It’s not a perfect match–it’s a tad too dark & pink–but I can basically just smear it on like a moisturizer, and it does a good job of evening out my skin tone. It’s also a fairly moisturizing formula, so I can skip wearing moisturizer underneath. And it’s cheap!

Go-to everyday blush? Armani Dolci or Clinique Peach Pop
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Bareminerals Complexion Rescue, 03 Buttercream in winter, 05 Natural in summer, love this stuff!

I have tried to find and wear a shade of brown for years. I finally had to admit to myself that I’m never going to roll with brown. It’s not a matter of not being able to find the right shade of brown or even my personal taste. It’s simply that brown looks muddy, dirty and boring on me — I don’t wear brown clothing, either. It just flat out isn’t my color. I have every shade of plum or wine you can think of that I use instead of brown. PS I haven’t had my makeup done by a professional too many times in my life, but it’s funny, in hindsight, not one of them used brown on me. [I have dark brown hair, black eyebrows, green eyes and fair complexion (NW13-15) with pink undertones.] Thanks for asking!

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Either the matte pink taupe in the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette or the brown shimmery taupe in the MAC Permanent Press trio

Go-to everyday blush? Urban Decay Afterglow blush in Indecent

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Bobbi Brown Skin Serum Foundation

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? UD Cover from the Naked Basics 2. One of my favorite smaller palettes for traveling!
Go-to everyday blush? Y’all, I can’t tell you how much I adore ColourPop Cruel Intentions for this.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth! The finish is beautiful and it feels so light on my skin. My only problem is that my local drugstores don’t carry it to the lightest shade, only up to 115, so I mix it with my Matte & Poreless in 112 for a slightly more matte but just as natural foundation. Considering that there are plenty of light foundations out there, especially compared to deeper shades, I’ll deal with it!

Your skin tone/coloring: Med NC4
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Urban Decay Nooner or Tarte Power Player
Go-to everyday blush? Nars Orgasm
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? I haven’t found a foundation that I love (I need to find a good one soon!), but tinted moisturizer atm would probably be Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer.

Your skin tone/coloring: light to medium with yellow undertones, dark brown eyes, black hair
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Wet n Wild Nutty
Go-to everyday blush? Tarte Exposed, TheBalm Hot Mama, or Physicians Formula Happy Booster Natural. Although lately, I’ve been loving TheBalm Balm Desert as an all-over bronzing blush
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Don’t have one! Hoping it’ll be Rimmel Wake Me Up BB Cream

Rachel R. Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? ColourPop I Heart This; ColourPop Mixed Tape; Urban Decay Naked2 from the original Naked Basics palette (it’s a great crease shade and face contour color for me).

Go-to everyday blush? Milani Rose Powder Blush in Coral Cove; Bare Minerals All-Over Face Color in Rose Radiance, Tarte Exposed, Too Faced Baby Love, Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Rose Champagne; Urban Decay Afterglow in Rapture.

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? High-end: Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation in Alabaster. Mid-range: BareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 in Porcelain 01 and Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream in Opal 01 . Drug Store: e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation in Porcelain.

Ray Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Cool toned and pale but not fair.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Colourpop’s Hanky Panky, though i wear Mixed Tape or Girl crush (cool-toned light gray) more often as my preferred neutral.

Go-to everyday blush? Essence’s Silky Blush in Adorable. It’s $2.99! I use it more as a matte highlight than a blush though. It’s been funny to see Benefit’s new Dandelion expanded line because I get the same effect with this cheapie blush!

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? I just top my primer with powder. IMO there’s not really a “my skin but better” option for oily skin. Mattifying products make your skin look “done” no matter what.

Stephanie Avatar

Coloring: light neutral-ish, brown eyes, medium brown hair
Go-to taupe eyeshadow: UD YDK (probably my favorite shade in the entire UD Naked palette series), and Frisk from Naked 2 Basics as a crease shade.
Go-to everyday blush: Too Faced Baby Love, easily. I got the blush palette to test them out, and I’m going to hit pan on this one before long. Needless to say, I’ll be replacing it with the full size.
Best YSBB foundation/tinted moisturizer: I’m liking UD One and Done (light-medium) at the moment. It feels like you’re not using anything at all (which will be really good for summer in Alabama)! That said, I still haven’t found my HG for any face products other than blush…

Kat Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: fair warm (Cover FX G10)
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? I don’t wear taupe eyeshadows a ton, but MUG Prom Night
Go-to everyday blush? NARS Madly is my most-used blush, it goes with everything
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream is one of my favorite bases ever, I also love the NARS tinted moisturizer with a few drops of Custom Cover drops in it

Your skin tone/ coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones MAC NC37-40, deep brunette, teal-green eyes w/gold flecks.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow: Too many to count! MAC Satin Taupe and their Electric Cool in Superwatt are tops, followed by Colourpop Mixed Tape and Party time. Also love UD YDK!

Go-to everyday blush: definitely UD Rapture and MAC Burnt Pepper see the most regular use.

Best your-skin-but-better foundation or bb/cc: Of what I actually own; MAC Pro-Longwear Foundation NC40 mixed w/ a drop of Strobe Cream gives me as perfect a complexion as I have ever had. But I still do want to try that more moisturizing one of theirs! Or Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea foundation!

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Honestly, you expect me to pick ONE??? I’m happy using any of: TheBalm Insane Jane; MUFE Taupe Grey, MAC Satin Taupe, Clarins Ombre Matte Taupe, UD Mushroom, Benefit Skinny Jeans, Nars Lhasa (possibly my favourite of all my favourites, but I can’t say for certain), Stila Cloud or Inglot 349 (there are more but this list is already embarrassingly loooong)
Go-to everyday blush? MAC Sweet Sentiment or Tarte Natural Beauty
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? IT CC cream or Shiseido Sheer and Perfect

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? KVD Night Crawler is one of my favorite shades.
Go-to everyday blush? I don’t have a go-to blush. The blush I choose depends on the shades I apply to my eyes and lips.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? MUFE #7 Pink with #11 Pink Porcelain added in the “triangle of light”.

Skin tone/coloring: Light with golden undertones
Go-to taupe eyeshadow: L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe
Go-to everyday blush: Too Faced Love Flush in Love Hangover, and Your Love is King
Best your-skin-but-better tinted moisturizer or foundation: Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB cream in light/medium

Gillian Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fairest neutral. Currently using Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + in #15 Alabaster. Great match and I can make it work with my skin type so woo hoo! Not that this foundation is new to me, not at all. I’m just happy that I can get some use out of it now that I have the right mix of moisturiser, primer, mixer and foundation (I do like to customise ?).

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Taupe isn’t actually a staple colour for me so I’m struggling to think of one I’ve used recently. An easy one to pick would be MAC Satin Taupe but I don’t even know where I’ve put it! There’s a Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow that’s a sort of taupe colour but it’s at my parents’ house and I can’t recall the name of it. Lastly there’s the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Fog that I do really like so I suppose that would be my pick, alongside the MUG eyeshadow previously mentioned.

Go-to everyday blush? It changes a lot these days but it’s usually shimmery, like a MAC Mineralize Blush or Mineralize Skinfinish used as a blush. I like to mostly use pinks so something like MAC Blonde MSF or MAC Dainty. And then, as if that’s not enough, on non-workdays I add MORE highlighter. If I look into the mirror and I’m not blinded by my cheekbones then it’s not enough!!! ?

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? This is an easy one for me, it’s Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. I use 00 Alabaster and it’s been my favourite light foundation for years now. That says a lot considering how fickle I am when it comes to foundation. Seriously. Try it, it’s awesome. Just saying. ?

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair Neutral
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? UD Frick from the Naked2 Basics palette—Such a nice light color for a minimal makeup ay or a base for beginning a more intensive look.
Go-to everyday blush? Hourglass Incandescent Electra—The one I have is heavy on the Incandescent Light ribbon of powder and works like a luminizing blush.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Perricone M.D. No Foundation Foundation Serum — It’s a little dark, but I lighten it my mixing in some of the Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Color Correcting Drops in green to help cover and counteract the redness due to acne scarring.

Anne Avatar

Skin tone/coloring: fair, warm
Go-to taupe eyeshadow: none; have yet to find one that is warm and looks right on me
Go-to everyday blush: new favorite: Laura Geller ‘blush -n- brighten’ pink grapefruit.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer: Laneige BB cushion in fair. After much experimentation through almost every brand, this is the one that fits me best in terms of texture, color, degree of moisture (doesn’t make my skin break out like even non-oil based tinted moisturizers), application (cushion).

Tammy B Avatar

Skin tone: Medium warm (NC30)

Go to taupe eyeshadow: I didn’t think I had one, as most taupes look like I put dirt on my eyelids. Then I read another post where Nars Stud was mentioned, so I DO have a taupe shadow that looks good on me! I always wear it with the Viseart Dark Matte #2 (a very dark taupe) in the crease. I love this look!

Go-to everyday blush: There has never been such a thing for me! I change my blushes and lipsticks daily. For the past couple months I have been mainly wearing the following MAC blushes: Cheek Pollen, Spring Flock, Life’s a picnic, Let’s Be Friends, and This Could Be Fun.

I did not wear foundation or any type of tinted moisturizer until I was in my mid 40’s. For the past five years I have been trying different foundations and tinted moisturizers. I like a completely natural look on my skin so I barely use any. I like to top a good moisturizer with a drop of foundation, just enough to even out my skin tone. I have tried about a dozen and up until now, Estée Lauder’s Doublewear has consistently looked the best on my skin. That may be about to change: this week I went to Chicago and got a foundation at La Mer, as well as Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk and Nars Luminous Weightless.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Make Up For Ever S556 Taupe Gray
Go-to everyday blush? Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Ethereal Glow
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox SPF25 Beauty Balm (one shade, light to medium)

Anne Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: NC15, hella pale with some rosacea

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Either MAC Satin Taupe, Zoeva Gallery from the En Taupe palette (or really just that entire palette), or UD Frisk from the Naked2 Basics palette

Go-to everyday blush? If I’m going for something neutral- Tarte Exposed, something plum- Hourglass Mood Exposure, something coral- either Benefit Coralista or Hourglass Incandescent Electra (though lately I’ve been using Nars Orgasm a lot)

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? I use the Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm (spf 45!) but want to try out the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint and their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, and the new Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done thingy.

Lt>med coolish. CFX lt ->med bb, CCD 30 in pink range.
How many times a day, week, month can I type MUFE Crystalline Gray Beige? Usually UD N2B Frisk for crease, though a couple of Catrice shades are great, too, esp. the matte one in the rose palette, which is really a neutral/taupey palette with pink leanings.
If by everyday, neutral is meant, Madly or Exposed. But am equally likely to go for MUFE Copper Red or Dark Purple Pink, maybe Cola Pop. It’s almost Taj Mahal season. MUG blushes, too. Spellbound is a good ‘everyday’ blush. Any day is a good day for significant blush. Don’t think of e/s so much in choosing a blush, think more of what lipstick is chosen.
Paula’s blah blah wrinkle defense. It’s always on, with CFX bb or color drops as needed.

Go-to everyday blush? I rotate a lot, but Tarte Exposed and Too Faced Baby Love are staples.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint, although the new formula is has a bit more coverage so it’s just a touch less natural.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? GA eye tints in Shadow. Purple or platinum based taupes are my favs
Go-to everyday blush? Chanel Joues Golden Sun (!!still!!)
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? I can feel a rant coming on. I think Tinted moisturizers provide absolutely the worst coverage for my aging ruddy skin, but the best natural look. I wear NARS TM in Alaska.. can’t quite figure out why none of NARS foundation shades seem to mimic, but assume the TM allows some of my natural face colour to show through which is why it works. BB and CC creams I only truly like in summer, find them a bit thick actually, but they are my grab and go and mix well with my sunscreen. I like IT Cosmetics in shade light the best. Otherwise, most foundations are 1) too ORANGE, 2) too yellow, 3) too pink, 4) too beige. I swear my skin defies categorization: thanks to predominantly British and German heritage with a splash of First Nations. North America is a ginormous and colourful melting pot. I get I am hardly alone in this foundation frustration. Why we do not have better colour choices given the complexity and richness of our ancestry? It defies logic. Rant Out.

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/neutral

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Taupe isn’t my favorite, but I like rosey taupes like Make Up Forever Olive Grey or Burberry Rosewood or gold taupes like Inglot 454.

Go-to everyday blush? Right now, it’s Estee Lauder Lovers Blush, but I’ve also been wearing Tom Ford Frantic Pink a lot.

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Currently, it’s Lancome BB Cream in 2 Clair mixed with L’Oreal Infallible Matte in 101. I also love the Circa Beauty BB Cream in the lightest shade.

Claire L Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool leaning to neutral.
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Zoeva’s Wrapped in Silk from En Taupe. Actually the whole palette is great for a taupe look.
Go-to everyday blush? Golden Gate from Bare Minerals The Royal Court.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? I don’t have an HG foundation or tinted moisturiser yet, I’m still looking. However, like Rachel R., my favourites thus far are:
High end: NARS Velvet Matte in Terre Neuve
Middle of the range: Bare Minerals 01 Opal, It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ in Fair
Drugstore: Max Factor Miracle Match in Light Ivory. I think the US equivalent is Cover Girl TruBlend foundation.

Denise Avatar

Skin tone/coloring : Light to medium – warm with pink undertones
Go- to – taupe eyeshadow : don’t wear taupe because it doesn’t look good on me
Go-to- everyday blush: I was using Chanel Jones powder blush in Pink Explosion, but just switched to Hourglass Mood Exposure and Cool Pink
Best -your-skin- but better foundation /tinted moisturizer ? Omorvicza in medium.
Great for skin with all kinds of goodies in it. Con is very $$$$$$$

Skin tone: porcelain, red hair, blue-grey eyes
Go to taupe eye shadow: Derailed from Vice 2
Everyday blush: Natio sunkissed mosaic palette – peachy colours
Foundation: Started using Rimmel’s 25 hour lasting foundation in light porcelain to see how it stays all day. I don’t use tinted moisturiser at all.

Lisa Avatar

Skin tone: light medium olive

Go-to taupe eyeshadow: Urban Decay Juju eyeshadow pencil. Sadly it was limited edition so I need to find a dupe!

Go-to blush: Tarte Exposed

MSBB foundation/tinted moisturizer: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue in Ginger 06. I like that I can build it up if I need to to medium coverage and it doesn’t make my skin look flat. I have combination skin but it doesn’t make my t-zone look oiler, it’s more like a natural sheen.

Neutral NC/NW15-20, hazel eyes, light brunette

Shimmery taupe is a must-have, and I wear some form of taupe every day. Favorites: Stila Dapple, Diamond Lil; MAC Satin Taupe; Bobbi Brown Galaxy; Urban Decay Darkside

Current go-to blush: MUFE HD 215 Flamingo Pink. Just the right punchy, fresh-looking flush on me.

My list of favorite foundations is literally longer than my arm. Currently, I’m wearing YSL Tient Touche Eclat (old formula) in BR20, Becca Aqua Luminous in Fair, and L’Oreal Lumi in compact in N2

Natalia Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: NARS Gobi in Sheer Glow, MAC NC15
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Well, don’t own many dark eyeshadows, so don’t have a “go to” per se, but I like Satin Taupe by MAC, if that counts.

Go-to everyday blush? Get ready for this… Still Warm Soul by MAC 🙂

Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? This is the one that actually made me comment. It’s hands down Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. For the condition my skin is currently in I don’t think anything will better it, honestly. Huge love, I will certainly try new products as they come out, but I will happily stick to this one for years to come (or till my skin changes 🙂 ) When it comes to foundation, I think NARS Sheer Glow does its job beautifully, Bobby Brown Moisture Rich is good, but the NARS one is better to me. I really enjoyed MAC Face and Body (the finish is beautiful!), but I found it to be quite “tiring” for my skin, since I have my makeup on for at least 8-9 hours a day.

Morena Avatar

Brown-skinned.
Im not an nc50, it’s too dark, NC 45 is too light, and the nw’s are too red. Cannot give reference to a mac foundation.

I don’t wear topes, I like copper shades for nudes. Makeup forever eyeshadow in copper red (both copper red shades) and pinky copper.

Everyday blush: Becca’s blushed copper, Mac flamingo Park (forgot the name but this one of the dark pinks)

Foundation : Kat von d Lock-in in shade #66.
I ordered Nars matte skin Tint foundation in Martinique for the sephora sale. Before my trip to the Bahamas, my shade would have been the lighter shade, Seychelles. After my tan I am in shade Martinique.dOrdered online can’t wait to try!

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-Medium golden undertones. MAC NC25.
Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Makeup Geek’s Prom Night. The taupe half of L’oreal Hip Eyeshadow Duo in Electrified.
Go-to everyday blush? Benefit’s Rockateur for a neutral blush with a natural sheen. Charlotte Tilbury’s Love is the Drug for a bright pink pop with a lot of glow. For matte choices, I love the Makeup Geek blushes in Bliss and Spellbound.
Best your-skin-but-better foundation/tinted moisturizer? Currently loving Laura Mercier’s Candleglow foundation in Dusk (perfect match). Light coverage, buildable to medium but I prefer to do a light layer and just spot conceal any blemishes. Gorgeous finish and perfect for a “my-skin-but-better” look.

Go-to taupe eyeshadow? Frisk from the Naked 2 Basics palette. It’s also my most favorite crease/blending shadow ever. I’m looking for a good dupe, but otherwise I’ll probably seriously re-buy the palette just for that shade haha! (hmu if you know good dupes, because I’m picky and I still haven’t found anything that is close enough for me lol.)
Go-to everyday blush? MAC Mocha

Skin tone/coloring: Super pale and super pink. NW10-NW13 in Mac, but pinker than that; Becca Porcelain. Blue eyes and naturally dark brown hair (although currently, my hair is blue/purple)!

Go-to taupe: I don’t use taupes or browns very much at all. My go-to shades tend to be coppers. My go-to eye is Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions all over the lid and Medusa’s Pennywise in the crease. I don’t necessarily recommend Medusa (their eye dusts are much more like primary pigments than proper loose eyeshadows) but Pennywise is the most beautiful straight copper color.

Go-to everyday blush: The blush that looks most natural on me is Fyrinnae’s Nordic Angel, but lately the one I’ve been picking up over and over is Benefit’s Bella Bamba (since discontinued). I find it much more flattering than Nars Orgasm for me, but with the same pink overtones/gold shimmer.

Best my-skin-but-better foundation: I tend to go for full coverage or very light coverage, but for light coverage I use powders rather than tinted moisturizers. Powders feel better on the skin for me than tinted moisturizers or sheer foundations, and they give me about the same level of coverage. My go-to powder at the moment is Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten in Porcelain. That’s not gonna work for everyone, since it has literal pink swirls all through it, but it’s perfect for my pink-toned self!
