Sunday Funday: 21 x MAC Permanent Lipstick Swatches
MAC Creme de la Femme Lipstick
Found a pocket of time earlier this week where I was shooting photos but no lip products that were super urgent, so here are another 21 swatches of permanent shades in the MAC Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) range. Not sure when I’ll get to more, but you never know!

Fanfare, Meltdown and Crème In Your Coffee (hehehe) are lovely!
Fanfare was prettier than I remembered!
Thank you! Creme in Your Coffee and Amorous are two of my favorite MAC lipsticks, it’ll be awesome to have them in the gallery to compare with other colors. Been meaning to check out Verve and Fastplay.
Yay! 🙂
I have FINALLY realized that cool colors look terrible on me. Unfortunately, I can’t tell the difference between warm and cool colors until applied. I would love to see warm/cool used in all product postings.
Every single shade is categorized with an undertone, actually 🙂 It is stated on each shade’s page. As this is not a review, I don’t have color descriptions written out as it is just to show some swatches quickly and efficiently. I usually describe colors in a review, but all shades are added to the database with color, undertone, and finish information already and have been for the last 3-4 years.
Thanks so much for that info Christine – I’ll look/read more closely in the future. Wish I could erase all the mistakes I’ve made in the past!
Fabby is much cuter than I thought it would be. Amorous, Fastplay, and Impassioned are other color stand outs.
Amorous is very pretty!
I recently got Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick in Pink Goddess. It looks a lot like Fabby – pink with golden shimmer. Bombshell looks nice too.
That sounds pretty! Do you think the Clinique is sheerer or more pigmented than Fabby?
From looking at your swatches the pigmentation looks about the same, but Pink Goddess looks a little warmer and deeper in color – not as bright as Fabby. Maybe like if Ramblin’ Rose and Fabby had a baby 😉
I like the last 4 – Fastplay, Creme In Your Coffee, Verve, and Amorous. I think Fabby is too cool of a pink for me, but looks like it would go well with my Becca Mineral Blush in Gypsy
I could totally see it working with Fabby! Maybe Bombshell, to make it less cool.
Me, too–and I own them all! FYI, Creme in your Coffee (cremesheen) and Twig (satin) are pretty much identical except for finish. I love them both!
Thanks for the tip! Both are so pretty looking, I can see why they are MAC classics 🙂
Here’s a shocker: with my hoard of MAC lipsticks, I do NOT own even one of these 21!!! Although I have come very close to buying Crème de la Femme, Patisserie, and Verve at different times. Half n Half, too, but wound up getting talked into Blankety instead??? ?
I may get Crème d’ la Femme, finally though.
Is it a shocker that I actually don’t have every shade already? I bought several shades a couple of years ago (these were all from that long ago purchase, that’s why most appear new, lol) to fill in gaps, but I honestly have no idea what I have/don’t have as I have tossed some that have turned over the last year. I actually ended up tossing another ten or so when I opening and setting aside permanent shades, because they had gone bad!
I think some of the ones in this are less popular – maybe off the radar? Some I’ve heard of but several were almost new-to-me, haha.
That’s my fear, that I have bought so many MAC lipsticks, they will at some point turn bad on me. I even thought that perhaps I ought to store them in my frig!
I was surprised, but a few of the ones that were brand new (in boxes yet) that were maybe two years old had turned. There are plenty o’ shades from many years ago that I keep for color reference but wouldn’t wear at this point, even though they haven’t changed color/texture/scent – but anything that’s legit turned has to go!
2 years and never opened is worrisome! Especially considering I have some lipsticks from other brands that are around 5-6 years old and are still fine. I should probably toss them, though….
I was definitely surprised! It actually seemed more common with Cremesheens/Lustres vs. Mattes.
Hi Christine,
Silly question, but I’ve Googled and haven’t found a good answer, but how do you know when your lipstick has gone bad, especially Mac ones? I have a bad habit of getting backups of my favourite shades out of fear of them being discontinued
Thank you for going back and doing these swatches, I cry a little bit if I search for a swatch in your gallery and don’t find it! 😀
I think the “recommended” life is 2 years for a lipstick.
I personally adhere to looking for changes – e.g. scent changes (they start off smelling like vanilla, then they can start to smell like plastic), signs of texture changes (sometimes it can be mold), or color changes. The tricky thing is determining if an older lipstick has wax bloom or actual mold (I have read mostly that mold is fuzzy and will not have the same creamy/sheen look of wax).
I used to be super intimidated by lipstick and never wore it. I felt like it was just too much for me. Then one day I decided i was going to be bold and get some. I went to the MAC counter and played around with their stuff and ended up getting Midimauve. I felt pretty cool.
Now that I love lipstick, I realize that Midimauve is almost the exact same color as my lips and it’s just about the least bold thing I could have bought. Ha! It’s a nice enough color, but on me, it’s so subtle as to not be worth it and I almost never wear it.
I’m so glad you braved lipstick and fell in love 🙂
Ha! I think one of my first MAC lipsticks was either Sweetie or Capricious – Sweetie is super MLBB on me as well!
YAY!!!! Thanks so much for this!!!
Yay!
I’ve been loving your new MAC swatches! Please do Brave, Captive, Faux, and Viva Glam IV if you can 🙂
I am working through the ones I have first as I can but based on what makes sense to swatch at that time 🙂 Thank you for understanding!
Yes!!!! Love this post, so stoked you did another one! I hope we get to see them all swatched at some point! Would you believe that I literally just earlier today bought Meltdown and Ramblin Rose – in a MAC store after the Sephora Rouge event!!! I bought three other frost ones too bc the sales associates told me MAC was DCing the Entire frost line. WHAT?!?!?!? And metallics are just coming back into fashion!!!! Anyway I bought also CB96 from your last post, along with Fresh Moroccan and Sequin. It was really hard to only buy 5! I did get one free though bc of the promotion MAC has going on right now for Select members!
That’s interesting! I know that as of a few days ago, they were still on the permanent list, but I’m pretty sure PR gets the discontinued list/heads up way, way later than artists do.
You know they told me that MAC stores are completely a seperate entity from MAC online. Did you know that? I didn’t know that! So it’s possible I guess that they’ll still be online and no longer carried in store. Hopefully.
My guess is they’ll be discontinued as well, but in the past, I remember MAC artists having quarterly updates, so they are often ahead of other employees who work in corporate/online, I think.
Thank you this! Fabby looks fab and I just bought Amorous the other day it’s beautiful. Please please tell me where I can find what you used on your eyes in your profile pic it is so so gorgeous! !!

Thank you so much!! It’s just so gorgeous I needed to know!! And you ALWAYS do the most beautiful eye looks!! (which is bad for me because it makes me want to buy the shadows/palettes lol!)
Aww 🙂 Thank you!
I love MAC for making so many light lipsticks since I only wear lights! (I know most people don’t feel this way, and no other brand has such a large proportion of lights)
They do have a lot of light and mid-tone shades!
Fabby’s like a slightly pinker version of an old fave of mine, Milani Sweet Grape! Quite pretty, I like it when the shimmer in a lip shade isn’t the exact same color as the base. Gives it some added dimension.
Me too — I am surprised we don’t see it more often in lipsticks.
So Chaud is one of my favorites and it actually looks darker on me, love it! I’m enjoying you posting these swatches so much! Thank youuuu~
Sure thing!
I’m so happy to see a new swatch for Patisserie. And Meltdown is so pretty and summery!
Yay!
Loving these swatches! They’ll help me decide which MAC lipsticks to buy.
That’s great!
Wow, thanks for this post! What a great idea! Sometimes when I’m looking for a new color, it helps to have something like this like a dictionary to see what the options are. Sometimes looking at that big MAC lipstick display can be overwhelming and it helps to see how these look to give me some direction to point me towards the things I’m trying to find!
Glad it can help!
Rambling Rose is my favorite all-time lippie! I am so glad that you swatched it, and some MAC permanents as well! I have Fabby because I fell in love with it in the store-light and hate it at home. It just is a little light and cool for my skin tone. Patisserie is a nice one, as well. Christine, I love it when you swatch permanent products because I tend to gravitate toward permanent items in an effort to avoid loving something and no longer being able to get my hands on it. Thank you! I see fanfare in my future. 🙂
So happy I could help, Renee!
A good remainder of lipsticks I still want from MAC. I have only one of these, Patisserie, I really like it a lot and use it frequently. Generally I don’t much care for barely there colours but it is such a lovely one.
I guess I have to make a new list of lipsticks I want, both from MAC and from other brands.
So many lipsticks, and only two lips 🙂
(I do tend to use three lipsticks a day, at least, staring either neutral or bold and then going to the other end, I guess I am a bit weird.)
haha! So true! Not enough lips for all the lipsticks!
