Into the Blue
Stila Magnificent Into the Blue Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark purpled blue with iridescent shimmer and micro-glitter that shifts from cooler blue to brighter violet. The particles used in this shade seemed finer than the average shade in the formula, though it was quite sparkly and reflective. It had a more watery consistency that made it harder to build up, so it tended to have medium coverage at best. The shift was more visible when the product was layered over something more opaque. It wore well for eight hours with minimal fallout.
Stila says that it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, sparkle eye shadow” in a “water-infused texture” that “dries down smoothly” with “minimal fallout.” There’s a lot to be impressed by with the formula, but there was some inconsistency in opacity and overall wateriness between shades so not all shades were equally impressive. When they’re good, they were pigmented, dried down evenly without creasing, and were long-wearing with minimal fallout. When they’re less impressive, they are more watery, semi-sheer to semi-opaque, prone to creasing as they dry down, though the wear is similar across all shades.
I felt like there was less fallout with the less blending done with them, e.g. applying directly to lid and only minimally working along the edges yielded the least fallout compared to diffusing and blending out the color with a brush. If I accidentally rubbed an eye, it seemed to interfere with the integrity of the wear completely–it was like a downhill avalanche of glitter that could not be stopped. They were easiest to use as the last step in a look, patted over eyeshadow with fingertip or swiped on with the sponge applicator for more of a “cut crease” kind of effect, or used along the lash line as eyeliner (I liked using a thin, liquid eyeliner brush to get a thinner line). They removed fairly well, but it was hard to get every last bit of glitter off the skin, though it was never painful or uncomfortable to remove them.

Sea Siren
Stila Sea Siren Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a medium, pink lavender with flecks of greenish-gold, icy lavender, and pink pearl and glitter. It had medium, buildable pigmentation–to about semi-opaque coverage–that applied fairly evenly. When I used a very small, flat brush, I was able to get nearly semi-opaque coverage in one press, but I had to be careful not to blend it out as the texture was a little thin and watery so it sheered out too quickly. This shade shifted to a greenish-gold finish. Once it dried down, the color stayed in place well for eight hours and had slight fallout.

Sunset Cove
Stila Sunset Cove Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is a brighter, medium pinky lavender with warmer pink undertones and a mix of cooler pink, lavender, and violet pearl. It had a more metallic sheen than overtly glittery finish, but it was quite reflective. It had medium, buildable coverage (to semi-opaque coverage) that applied fairly evenly. There was a shift from brighter pink to a cooler lavender that was more prominent when layered over another product. The color lasted for eight and a half hours with slight fallout over time.

Agree, think these would work best as sparkly toppers over shadows or eyeliners, they look fun!
They are very pretty o ver something else for sure – definitely like them a lot of eyeliner!
I agree. The two pinks are quite pretty.
Oh the first one is disappointing! It looks so gorgeous in its little vial, but it’s very gray on the skin.
I find it still brightening, but it shifts and can look bluer/more violet depending on what else it is paired with!
Into The Blue is calling to me. And I’m really not usually into bluer eyeshadow, but this one has such a beautiful purple shift to it! Actually, all 3 look better applied than swatched tbh.
I think part of that is the natural of glitter — better from further away than up-close!
Oh goodness!! Christine you look BEAUTIFUL in the picture with your hair down!! absolutely stunning!! 😀
I’m really curious about these!! I’ll have to check them out while I’m in the states!!!
Thanks, Shannon!
Christine, thanks for the review and swatches! I’m definitely getting Into the Blue, but I think I only want one of the pinks.
Btw, your hair is gorgeous! I love seeing it down.
No problem, Jammies! 🙂 If you get Into the Blue, consider Sea Siren – I think the way it shifts to a greenish tinge makes it more different than Into the Blue vs. Sunset Cove!
I was intrigued when these were first released but after your review they seem like way too much effort is needed to make them look good . I’ll pass. I don’t think anything can ever surpass my Urban Decay duochrome shadows in Dive Bar (blue to purple shift ) , Tonic ( purple /pink ) and Fireball (orange/pink ).
Yes and no – I’d say it depends on how you’d use them. Layered, easy to use, but if you’re trying to make them work as a standalone product, a lot more effort than using something like Dive Bar!
I purchased “Into the Blue” the day it came out because I love the two I already owned. I agree with the B rating. I’ve worn it twice and it works great with a blue base.
What blue base have you used with it, Brenda?
I’ve used 2 different ones.
UD Chaos shadow – deepened the blue, made it darker, wore it on a date with my hubby
KVD Doom from Pastel Goth – didn’t change the tone, daytime wearable.
If Stila wants me to get excited about these, they need to release a green one.
I bet they will!
I hope so!
I had a major sense of deja vu looking at your looks that you put together. Seems to remind me of 80s colors. The shadows aren’t for me, more because they don’t seem a good value. BTW, you have very pretty hair. We don’t see it down very often.
Thanks, Shari!
Gorgeous shades and I agree, best used over eye shadow.
Definitely! 🙂
I just about always layer glitter shadows on top of other eye shadows. Exactly how you explained by patting on the center of my lid . Love your pretty hair!
Thank you, Denise! 🙂
If you use them that way, they are pretty nice!
I love the look you created with Sunset Cove!
Thanks, Betty!
