Spring Makeup: The Fresh Bloom of Spring with Purple, Green, & Blue
Spring Makeup: The Fresh Bloom of Spring with Purple, Green, & Blue
One of the most important things to do when doing a look with distinct colors is to be careful not to over-blend, which is really easy, because most of us put our noses to the mirror when we’re checking to make sure we did a good job on our makeup. It’s important to take a step (or three) back, look at our work, and judge it how others are going to see us. For instance, purple and green do not make a very pretty color when blended together, so it’s important to use a light hand when layering and just barely blend so there’s no line of demarcation.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), (fuchsia-purple), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets EyeshadowMAC Lucky Green Eyeshadow (medium spring-y green), MAC Moon’s Reflection Eyeshadow (gray blue), MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow (electric blue), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (green-toned gold), MAC Beautiful Iris Eyeshadow (iridescent purple), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), MAC Blue Herizon Liquidlast Liner (blue), Urban Decay Electric 24/7 Liner (blue-teal), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb (peachy-pink)
- Lips: MAC Hue Lipstick (peachy nude), MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass (coral)
- Brushes: 217 (blending brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes:
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. Using the 239, apply Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Moon’s Reflection eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Electric Eel eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Sweep Beautiful Iris eyeshadow along the inner tearduct and above the inner crease with the 217. Bring everything together by applying Electric eyeliner on the lower lash line and Blue Herizon liquidlast liner on upper lash line and then sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.
For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Hue lipstick first, and then layer Lychee Luxe lipglass for a complementing lip.

your eyeshadow looks like it is creasing! i dont think the base you are using is strong enough.
Hmm, I looked, and it just looks like the lines I have on my lid… If you look at my other looks, you’ll see the same lines in the same position. They are more or less noticeable depending on the color/texture on top.
That’s just skin… like everyone has on their eyelids.
no it’s not. you must be blind.
oh wow, this is such a sweet look! I love it! x
Thank you, Livia!
OOO i love this it’s so colorful <3
Thanks, Christine 🙂
How would u use the mac 275 brush and the mac 214 brush. Do u have a post on all the different mac brushes and how they are used.
I’d use the 275 to blend or to apply a highlighter or wash of color. I’d use the 214 to define or smoke out the lower lash line. I have all brushes here: http://www.temptalia.com/beauty-basics-mac-eye-brushes
http://www.temptalia.com/beauty-basics-mac-face-brushes
im abit confused… did you use electric eel on the lower lashline or urban decay electric?
Electric Eel is in the crease! Electric liner by UD is used on the lower lash line.
AH! Thank you thank you thank you! I always want to see you close your eyes on one of the full face shots – So I can see what it looks like from a distance 🙂 This is a really groovy look! Good job! 🙂
Christine – When you do these looks for the site, how often do you wear them out of the house? Is it your make-up for the day or are you just demonstrating ideas?
They usually don’t turn out very well, so I tend not to include them!
Very rarely, to be honest. It’s more about showing ideas or how certain products look used in a look!
Well I think this turned out quite well! You could wear this out of the house and turn a few heads 🙂
Thanks! 🙂 If I had someplace to go, I probably would have worn it out. I am way too lazy to get up early before school to do makeup, so I tend to do it after school is over… and well, my life is school and blogging, LOL.
I was pretty happy with it. It’s something I can’t remember doing before, and I just liked how it came together myself, so I am happy others liked it, too!
cute! reminds me of an easter egg!
Thanks, Liz!
I never liked blue makeup, and don’t ask me why 🙂 I just think is a such a strong color, I dunno how to express it, but when I see girls with blue makeup they attract my attention more than the others. :)Don’t get me wrong
Aww, that’s too bad 🙁
I’m too old for this look! 🙁
Pshh!
This is an absolutely beautiful look! You’re so talented.
Aww, thank you so much! 😀
WOW! Very very pretty Christine! I’m going to try that lip combo it’s gorgeous 🙂
Hope you like it! Thank you, Aleksis!
Thats sweet lookin…nice job.. I love electric eel
Thanks so much, Susie!
Wowza! Look at those brown eyes pop! The color combo is a bit unusual but so so pretty. It definitely reminds me of spring! 🙂
(P.S.: you forgot to mention Electric Eel in the description…)
Fixed!
Thank you, Roxanne! 😀
Wow, Christine, this is gorgeous! 🙂 It’s snowing here, but I feel all spring-y looking at your pictures. 🙂
Snowing, brrrr!!
Thank you, Anita!
Beautiful!
Thank you, Annie 😀
This is really pretty and unique 🙂
Your amazing with blending lol
:p
Thanks so much, Jess! Really, the key here was less blending, lol!
love this!
Thanks, Laura! 🙂
wow this is a fun look!
I love it!
Thank ya, Jill!
You are so sweett…!
Thanks, Suheda!
This is soooo beautiful Christine. It’s really cold and wintery here in Canada but I still want to do this spring inspired look!
Thanks so much, Sandy 🙂 It’s pretty cold here, too (well, for us!).
wow this look is absolutely heavenly!
BRAVO!
Thanks, Ann!
Wow, really pretty 🙂 The colours really go well together in an unexpected way. I am so afraid of playing with those bright but the looks so fresh and springy! 😀
Definitely try ’em, Ricquetta! You can always wash it off if you don’t like it 🙂
Thank you!
Ooh, this is very interesting and unique, I like it. And it gives me a ton of ideas. BTW, a few days ago, you said you would post lip swatches of the Cremeblend Blushes, did you not post them yet, or did I just miss them?
Not yet, I’m a bit behind!
Ah, I understand. I’m really looking forward to seeing them. I just ordered So Sweet, So Easy and Joie-De-Vivre, plus Pretty, Shift To Pink and and Lush & Bright Lipgelees. Thinking of maybe getting the other 2 blushes and the other Lipgelee. And a few other things…having my own credit card might be a bad thing. *hides*
LOL! Poor credit card, I anticipate a lot of use 😛
Oops, meant Preppy, not Pretty. And yes, it gets a ton of use, especially the past 2 months, lol.
I love this look. So colorful.
Thank you, Lis!
reall nice, it makes my think of the sea!!!
i love it
Thanks so much, Amy!
Gorgeous Christine!!! I now want to purchase Beautiful Iris, Gorgeous Gold, Moon’s Reflection and Lucky Green.
Thanks, Jacquelyn! 😀
That is really pretty
Thanks so much, Beth!
These colors are bright! But I love this look.
Thanks a lot, Bridgette!
Cute look! I love all the colours together and they are so fresh for spring.
Glad you liked it, Amy! Thanks!
I love it 🙂 So pretty :D:D:D:D
Thanks, Paloma!
I LOVE this look!!! So bold! I would sooo wear this! Your blending skills are out of this world!
Aw, thanks a lot, Candi! 🙂
Hi Christine. Thanks for the tip about stepping back to see how others will see our makeup. I like the eyes, terrific placement of colour, and not too much blending.
No problem! Sometimes I forget, and then I’m like, OK, step back!
I love the lip combo!
Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE this!! It’s adorable, not to mention really fun 🙂 I have to admit, the violet addict that I am, Stars & Rockets is definitely my favourite colour out of the ones you used — but I like them all!
Also, I’m not sure if you meant to leave teal on your lashes, but I like it ^^
Thanks so much, Rae 🙂 I love me some Stars ‘n’ Rockets.
LOL, I didn’t actually mean to. I’d normally apply liner prior to mascara, but I was undecided and threw it on at the last minute!
O_O Definitely one of my most favorite of your looks! Very beautiful! 🙂 (Now I need to go buy me some bright blue eyeliner… xD)
Aw thanks, Cozy 😀
How. Soooo Pretty. You def take more pics like the 2nd one, the one where you’re looking down…
Thanks a lot, Jackie!
You look fantastic!
Not sure if having both green and blue on your eyelashes was intentional, but I like it!
LOL, it wasn’t. Normally I’d do liner before mascara, but it was a last minute call!
That’s so pretty! I wouldn’t be brave enough to wear it but I’d love to see such makeup on others 😉
Thanks, Cream 🙂 Wear it around the house!
I’m not into these bright spring looks but you did a good job applying each one. The lip color is awesome!
Thanks bunches, Erica!
Beautiful. I love this!
Thank ya, Jackie!
I love this. You look beautiful as always, Christine.
Thanks so much, Kate 🙂
I love it and will try to replicate. It’s beautiful!
Thanks, Annie! Have fun!
Oooh, I must get Lucky Green. Such a pretty color combo 🙂
Yes, it’s a must-have!
I love this look, it’s so colorful and fun! You look fab!
Thanks a lot, Gio 🙂
You rock this look well.. I could never get away with this lol
Thank ya, Jennifer!
I like this a lot! I think I’ll try to recreate it in a few months 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, Heather! Hope you do!
This is so cool. LOVE when you do funky color combos like this. My favorite part is the swoosh of Beautiful Iris around the corners – I need to get that color (I have Digit, but that’s a bit softer/paler, right?). Darn Liquidlasts, though – I have Aqualine, and it is one of my favorite *colors* for an eyeliner ever, but I have trouble keeping it off my lashes so I’ve avoided it. Now that I have Lancome Bi-facil, though, maybe I should be less afraid of that! 🙂 And actually, it looks kind of pretty here, like an intentional highlight of blue mascara, haha!
Thank you< Daphne!
Try using a separate brush – I put mascara on before liner, which I wouldn't normally do (I added the liner at the last minute), but the 210 or 208 helps a lottttt.
Wow! That is BRIGHT! It’s a lot different than the stuff you normally do. But I like it, especially the range of colors on the lid itself. Like a shimmery rainbow.
Thanks, Trisha!
Really beautiful. It’s hardly spring in here where I am but you made me want it to be already!
Thanks, Sanita 😀
Gorgeous! I wish I could pull something like this off.
You totally could 😉
Oh my goodness, the Urban Decay pencil in Electric is a nice touch. It looks so good on you! I would never dare to wear such bright colors to class/work.
Thanks a bunch, Aimee 🙂
AVATAR! It reminds me of the beautiful colors in the flowers on Pandora! and the Battle make up on the Na VI !
Haven’t seen it yet, but thank you 🙂
Girl, you have outdone yourself. Love the look!
Thank ya!
Oh gosh you’re just the best Christine!
It’s like a work of art on your eyes – super creative girl 😉
Aww, thanks so much, Brittany!
Not my favourite on you, I’m sorry to say. Technically perfect, of course, but too garish for my taste. Blues do seem to match your eyecolour perfectly!
Sorry you didn’t like it, Morgan!
wow! absolutely gorgeous, Christine! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you, Daria!
Love love love it! I want to try my hand at this look but the only product I have is the UD eyeliner. Time to shop my collection to find dupes 😀
Thank ya, Tami!! 😀
Ooh… So pretty and colourful. I love it. I totally forgot I have Blue Herizon Liquidlast Liner. It’s such a beautiful liner! 🙂
I loveeee it, though don’t use it much! Thanks, Sarah!
I LOVE this look. Gorgeous.
Thank you so much, Shontay!
Ahhhh this is so Lisa Frank! 😀 love it!
Thank ya, Kat 🙂
this is really pretty christine, i dont think ive ever seen another make up guru do a look similar to this, it is beautiful, i want to wear it tomorrow, what would you say is a good dupe for moon’s reflection? tilt?
Thanks, Alana! I think you could use Tilt instead 🙂
I LOVE this look! I just wish I had the guts to wear it!
Thank you! You could always wear it around the house 😀
This look is beautiful. Gorgeous! Amazing! Bright! In other words, something I’ll have to try.
Thanks so much, Katie!
I love this! I do looks that involve bright colors and not much blending very well.
Thanks, Kim! 🙂
This is one of my favorite kinds of looks! Pink/yellow/blue is such an awesome combination but can be so hard to put together into a look (at least, that’s how it is for me! xD), but this is just perfect. I am so trying this!
The lips also look gorgeous here. I would have thought to have done a more blue pink but the yellow pink/peach definitely works better. <333
Love it!
Thanks, Nora! I hope you give it a shot 🙂
I think you could go lighter (same hue, but lighter) for a less intense look. I do think a really soft blue-pink could work, too. I always like more coral-y shades with golds, blues, and greens — I think that’s why I went for it!
ooh very elaborate. I tried a multi one once and it didn’t turn out terribly well but I guess I could try again.
Thanks, Bettina! Definitely give it a shot 😀
Just the word spring brings joy to me then I saw this look, so perfectly blended and so pretty. I am not a rainbow eye girl, but this pastel creation is gorgeous. I am laying out all of my shadows tonight to create the look tomorrow morning. I LOVE IT!
Thank you, Jennifer 😀
Very springy! The liner looks amazing 🙂
Thank you, Frieda!
I love it! It reminds me of the colors of a Parrot Fish.
Thanks, Jessica!
Wow! I love this! It’s so pretty and colourful! I think it can be difficult to put different colours together sometimes, so I love the way the colours look distinct but still blended in together nicely.
Thanks a lot, Saira! 😀
I love this! I haven’t done a colorful look in soooo long; this inspires me!
Thanks, Sarah! Do one 😀
