Sneak Peek: Urban Decay Moondust Palette Photos & Swatches
Urban Decay Moondust Palette
Urban Decay Moondust Palette ($49.00 for 0.16 oz.) includes eight shades of new Moondust eyesahdows housed in a glittery palette (it doesn’t feel gritty or like the glitter would come off). Hope to have a full review for you within the next week 🙂
Something about this palette makes me feel like it’s not very becoming or jawdropping. It could be that all the colors look very flat while when I think of Moondust, my mind immediately goes to duochrome like their single shades.
I am going to resist, I swear! I looove the shimmer but this is sadly just not my color range- that said, I am super excited to see the looks you come up with! And I am hoping that this does really well and that UD releases a metal- toned sequel ?
I’m really not a fan of chunky glitter, so that’s definitely a pass for me!
Applied dry, Element and Magnetic look like fall out monsters, but the wet swatch looks good, and all of the other shades look good too. I have enough glittery shadows from ColourPop, Chanel D’Ilusion Ombres, Dior MonoFusion, UD, etc. but the little magpie in me still drawn to this. Trying to resist, but we’ll see….
? I’m such a magpie – my kneejerk reaction is OOOH SPARKLY MUST GET but then I breathe and remember I rarely do glitter and save for the Naked line, I don’t collect much Urban Decay. Beautiful colors, though.
As I do like this, I have the last two Urban Decay palettes…well three. The Vice with the spider webby design on the front (lol), the latest one on sale now (with the mirror top) and the electric one and aside from the electric one, the other two are full of glitter and shimmer which is why I like them because they look GREAT on my skin soo I am kind of upset that these have no muted colors. I hate the NAKEDs they didn’t work for me or maybe I should try it again because I’d like a less BAM!! SPARKLES palette. But…these colors are so cute. ugh
I don’t usually like glitter but I have this and enjoy using it so much. Especially Element!
Soo pretty!
This is SEVENTY BUCKS here in Canada. For that price, I think I’ll try individual shadows of the shades I like, since I don’t really need or even crave a palette of all Moondust finishes.
These look promising! I had intended to go to Ulta this weekend to swatch this palette but I didn’t have enough spare time. I guess now I can just wait for your review.
INTERGALACTISMAL!!! Love this, and I don’t usually do glitter, but those heavier swatches have me thinking that these shades are quite doable!
Pretty! I actually just grabbed this one as there’s a good deal going on at Ulta online right now (5x the points, full sized Algenist mask with $40 purchase, free lancome samples, free matrix hair thingy, and it also gave me the free $75 gift bag even though I didn’t spend $75, I think it picked up the $40 Algenist as some of my spend). Anyways though I hope I love it! I got some glitter primer as well so that should help it stick.
Drool-Worthy Palette but 3 colours I won’t personaly wear. So I pass.
Oh! Pretty, shimmery, glimmering, shiny! I want this palette!
Hi Christine,
Is one side with primer and one side without or one dry/wet application?
It is wet and dry application.
Granite, Magnetic & Galaxy are GORG!
Those are really pretty colors. I hope it doesn’t have too much “fall out”.
Woah! Lightyear is an amazing colour!
I really like Element and Magnetic.
I know I’m supposed to be a “mature woman” but I really really want this one!
I promise you, there is glitter after menopause. (I will be 50 in October. And yes, I do wear glittery shades.) Element is beautiful!
Erin, I do agree. I have several of the singles an subscribe to the Peter Pan complex with make up. (I’ll never grow up! Thanks for the support.
real women wear glitter and neon lol I’m almost 30 and i got this little beauty as i love glitter and color i mean I’m the type to wear bright pink eye makeup electric pallete with lashes don’t let age hold u back
Can’t wait for your review on this. I swatched this is store and loved it. But I can’t see myself using something this glittery on my eyes.
Is the left side the one without the primer? Because it really looks like they would all need a primer to keep them on the lids. Fabulous colours though.
Christine said earlier that it’s dry (on the left) and wet (on the right) applications (I think she’s gone on record as not using primers for testing purposes so it’s almost always wet and dry and, for blushes, applied heavily and then blended out).
I like the look of this but worry that the fallout might irritate my eyes, I wear contact lenses so that’s potentially an issue. Some shades look better than others in regards to the fallout issue though.
I wear contacts myself And while some fall out happens it is not too bad and no irritation .
A tad too metallic for me and my workplace, but Element would be great as an eyeliner, and perhaps Magnetic too..
So this is what fallout haven looks like.
Beautiful! I can’t wait for mine to arrive. Galaxy, Lightyear, and Element are my favorites.
I bought this today to take advantage of my 5x points on UD, and because I love glitter. Even with my well-known UD and glitter obsessions, I’ve somehow never gotten around to using any of the Moondust shadows until now. My initial impression is that the formula is difficult to work with, so I’m curious to know how to get the color payoff to be as good as these swatches!
*I know the ones on the right are wet, but even the dry swatches look much better than what I got while testing this out.
I don’t know how the formula of these shades compares to existing Moondust singles, but I find using a setting spray for wet application in addition to the primer I use every day works pretty well with the ones I have so far.
I’ll have to try that. Good thing I bought a new bottle of setting spray yesterday!
Use them wet rather than dry and primer and a black or white base or as a topper on other shadows and a dense brush like Mac 242 to apply
They worked pretty well over just primer when applied with the fingers. In general, though, my go-to with Moondust shadows is to apply primer, then Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, then the Moondust shadows with a brush. I honestly have less fallout with these than the old school UD glitterbomb shades like Maui Wowie. The glitter’s a bit lighter, which helps.
I also find the shades in the palette to have better color payoff, in general, than the four single Moondusts I already owned.
Oh, God, my resolve is weakening already ….!!
A very easy pass for me. For the price you’re getting only 8 small chunky glitter shades in a cheap compact. No good. If the shades were duochrome I would consider it.
Some of these look great. I’m just not sure I’m wearing enough makeup at night to justify it. If I lived in a big city or took my look more seriously, I’d consider them for day. Right now I’m only wearing subtle makeup a few days a week at best so this really isn’t fitting in with that concept.
I saw this a couple times on Snapchat last week…omg, I feel like I need it in my life!! I already love UD palettes in general, but these Moondust shadows all in one case look like the best thing I’ve seen all year haha I’ve actually been thinking about them since I got samples with Sephora orders last year…takes me awhile to click “add to cart” sometimes :X
I ordered this the day it came out and while I’ve only used a couple of the colors so far I absolutely love it. I don’t really consider myself a glitter type of person but surpirsingly have several of the single Moondust shadows and love them all as well. They’re all quite pigmented for glitter shadows and while there’s a tiny bit of glitter fallout during application I don’t have any fallout during wear. I just wipe off the little bit that happens while applying and it’s gone. I don’t usually apply mine wet but do apply directly over Too Faced glitter glue and it sticks really well and lasts all day. I was so excited when I heard they were making this and I’m definitely not disappointed.
I’m getting this for my birthday in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited. I go in to Ulta every few days to visit it.
I love Urban Decay shadows but passed over the Moondust shadows for a long time because I thought they were too glittery. Then one day I had a sudden desire for them and picked up one of the singles. It’s so pretty I want to wear it every day!
I use e.l.f. glitter primer and a brush that I first dipped in to some UD setting spray. I don’t notice a lot of fallout but I don’t get very worked up over fallout. It’s just a little extra sparkle that’s easy to brush away.
I understand thinking you might not have enough occasions to wear these type of shadows but I’ll wear them anytime the mood strikes me. I’m lucky to live in Austin where you can wear pretty much anything, anytime and no one looks twice. I’ve been know to wear glitter shadow with shorts and a t-shirt to volunteer at the animal shelter.
But I think they work for any evening occasion, you just have to make sure to put on your “I’m amazing and I rock this look” attitude.
The colors are so beautiful and rich!
The thing that bugs me about palettes is that I generally don’t want all of the shades. In this one, I adore the Lightyear but wouldn’t wear any other the others.
