Sneak Peek: Smashbox Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trios Photos & Swatches
Smashbox Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trios
Smashbox Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in 16 different combinations (and I just saw that they launched three Glitter trios as “coming soon”). Some trios are all matte, some are all shimmer, and a few are a mix. I’m working my way through them and hope to have a few reviews up in the next week or so.
Nothing here to write home about. Many (most die hard)of your readers will find these highly duped. Maybe some, who touch up away from home could find these useful. Some great, some beyond not so hot. For new collectors, these could fit the bill. Smart to offer trios for obvious looks. Getting kind of tired of the mega palette trend. Many people, esp newbies may not be able to afford the hefty tags on the megas. Often I find that swatches I like here are very meh in person. Think that would be the case with the the fair nudie, plus it will prob be DTD (duped to death.)
Some of these look cute, but I’m SO OVER makeup companies trying to name their products and shades after “trendy” terms that have nothing to do with the colors or collections. Cashew Outside? 10000 Likes? Just STOP already. Know how to get mentioned on social media? Make awesome makeup.
Agreed. Reading some of the names was making my skin crawl.
I’m 28 and all the “trendy” names make me feel like I’m 100.
One of the many things I really like about Lorac – names like Beige, Mocha, Jade and Cool Grey. I wish more companies would do this and get away from the goofy names. As for your comment about getting noticed by making awesome makeup – you’ve hit the nail on the head!
Meh…these color combinations just look boring and the swatches average. Smashbox eyeshadow hasn’t interested me in a loooooong time.
Depending how much they will be in £s (and ur review!) I might be tempted by #repost as I could easily see myself using those colours for everyday eye makeup and wouldn’t bother adding extra shadows <3
These are really pretty and I’d definitely pick up one if they were half the price.
I very much like the idea of Smashbox’s 3-pans of the past (practical, easy to use, basic) and so I hope the quality of these is good (though some of the swatches look less than great). I can’t wait for your reviews!
I was wondering where the Smashbox trios went! I have one of the older ones (name escapes me), and to be honest, I think they are not pigmented and crease horribly, however, I love how dinky the packaging is. There’s nothing else like them, and with a reliable primer, they work alright. The trio I have + a matte highlight single is all the eyeshadow I need for travel, so despite the dupable shades, I’ll look into these simply for the convenience/form factor.
I like the tailored approach and palette style, can imagine keeping in the purse or gym bag no problem. Holy Crop and Tag Me appeal, and unlike some of the others they do swatch ok though I’ll need to test in store.
A couple of these seem like they’d be good to pop in one’s bag for quick on-the-run eyeshadow looks or travel. But most seem to have fairly shabby pigmentation and look painfully bland. And then there’s the names. Seems like they’re trying too hard to be relevant and hip. ?
The colour combinations are pretty good, but the quality seems up and down – especially with the mattes. The reviews will be interesting.
Hmm, I wonder if ‘Hang’ is the same shade as the one in my Sultry covershot palette. The swatch is not looking great here, I can’t tell if its the one. If it is its my go to transition, and I have been looking another one (The original palette was released as part of a trio only). Now If they could just re-release ‘Stone’ and ‘Platinum’ from the same….
I hate the names on these, but I’m excited for Tag Me. I’m not an eyeshadow person, so while I have wanted to purchase a pink palette I have no need for +5 shades. The size of these is perfect. Hopefully they’ll score well!
Smashbox is very boring IMO. Not very innovative, and never thinking outside the box. Always the same type packaging, and same ideas over and over.
I have dupes for 90% of these that are way better than these. Is it just me or have all the recent eyeshadow releases been a snooze fest?
I was in an Ulta 2 days ago & looked at Showmance tester. I had trouble opening the lid. There wasn’t a large enough gap to stick your finger in to separate the lid from the shadows. I wonder how many will break a nail or ruin a manicure attempting to open this? The only ones I am interested in possibly are Showmance & Snap Queen.
I’ve always loved the idea of these, but I’ve never liked their eyeshadow formula…and this isn’t changing my mind. The shimmers look decent, but the mattes look like they need help, even if you use primer.
On Location is the only one that looks really great to me. All of these color combos are pretty basic.
I find myself extremely underwhelmed. Also, I promised myself I’d never buy Smashbox again after my eye primer debacle, so an easy skip for me.
Nothing particularly innovative (and definitely nothing worth breaking my no-buy over), but I’m sure these could be nice for someone on the go or just getting makeup who might need help putting colors together. Like most, I wish they were better quality, and I definitely agree that Smashbox hasn’t done anything innovative in a very long time.
