Sneak Peek: MAC x Brooke Shields Photos & Swatches
MAC x Brooke Shields Collection
MAC x Brooke Shields Collection launched online today on MAC’s website (still to launch on other retailers’ websites as well as in-stores on October 2nd!). For international locations, I just have “October 2014” but nothing more specific than that. I received product samples earlier today, but I didn’t receive the Gravitas eyeshadow palette–however, I did purchase it this morning and selected overnight shipping, so I should get it sometime tomorrow (could be anytime tomorrow, as late as 8PM!). I’ll have full reviews, photos, swatches, dupes, and all that jazz for this collection tomorrow! 🙂

That coral lipgloss is soooo pretty…but honestly the packaging is so ugly I have no interest in getting this now.
Am I the only one who finds the packaging horribly cheap looking? It so strongly evoked 90s drugstore a’la Almay that I actually “ugh”ed aloud.
No, you’re not the only one! It looks awful. Can’t say I like what’s inside either.
Yay! Yep, pretty sure I’m still in for the blush and only that. The bronzer is darker than I thought.
This seems lovely at a glance! I’m looking forward to read your review on this collection, Christine!
Scone bronzing powder looks nice! Do you think it will work on a NC30 skin
I’m so confused by this, honestly. Pretty boring looking stuff with early 90’s drugstore-looking packaging. Well, that sounded a bit harsh, haha. I’ll of course reserve judgement until I see full reviews and see them actually on you! But the sneak peeks look…. I dunno…. meh?
I hope Christine does a look with each of the eyeshadow palettes to inspire some enthusiasm about them. They look quite lame.
Will working cream blush with powdered bronzer blend well? How do you apply it without looking patchy?
You can always set your cream blush with translucent powder or apply bronzer first/after (depending on the consistency of your blush, how much it dries down, the colors, etc.).
The swatches look great!
Somehow they didn’t wow me in the packaging bit they’re lovely
I actually like the packaging and the descriptions of the products were promising, but this is so weak. I can’t even look at Mac lipsticks right now after buying Nars Audacious lipsticks.
Oh wow! I like the look of the bronzer!! 🙂
The cream colour base/blush duo, funnily enough, is the thing that intrigues me most here! I’m kind of torn on the packaging – on the one hand, it feels very modern, but on the other hand, grey always makes plastic look really PLASTIC (i.e. cheap) to me somehow…
Woohoo! Yu are the swatch master!
This collection is terrible. What a let down.
I’m just waiting to see your opinion on the palette. I desperately want to know if it’s worth it. The rest of the collection…meh. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pearlfusion sets.
I like the bronzer and the lipsticks, and even the brown of the Pearlfusion palettes, but I think I’m mainly in for the Gravitas palette. If I can’t get that though I’ll settle for a lipstick because I really like the packaging.
I don’t know if it just me but the packaging make me feel so tire, old and boring just by looking at it !
Unlike everyone else, I find the packaging to be elegant looking. Granted, for those who dislike the packaging, they bought cosmetics in the ’90s; I did not, as I was less than a decade old for that entire era.
Excite and Knockout are really pretty! I think I could live without them though. This collection doesn’t really do it for me
Feh! Not my shades at all and as others have commented, the packaging is nothing to write home about – it all would have been better in MAC’s plain old every day packaging, if you ask me! MAC knocked it out of the park with Alluring Aquatics (first collection in a long time that wowed me both with product and packaging) – they’d have been well to have kept that one going a bit longer or expanded on it….this is just so BLAH.
The packaging is,,, not hip. But oh well. Swatches look promising!
I am interest in the cream colour base duo!
I was going to get another benetint (I used it for the canada winter when I have to go out with my whole face covered and regular make up would stain my scarfs/clothes and the benetint don’t), do you think its comparable or I should stick with the benetint?
I hated the packages, grey plastic looks cheap and boring to me…
Stick with Benetint. CCBs don’t dry down that well.
Unlike a number of the other commenters, I like the clean look of the packaging. Among the products, I like the orange gloss and lipstick. The shadow palettes seem a little wan. I am confused by “Cream Base”; is that MAC terminology for blush?
MAC has always had Cream Bases are part of the pro line. You can use them for whatever you want really.
The cream blush duo is pretty. The lip stuff is pretty, but nothing special. The other items are kind of “ho-hum.” I’m looking forward to seeing the Gravitas palette swatches.
I love the look of Gospel!
I think I fall in love with lipgloss and bronzer look good too! but I still don’t like packaging
The more I look at the packaging of this collection, the more it exudes a cheap, 90s drugstore packaging as well. I don’t think anything else screams cheap, drugstore lipglosses more than rectangular shaped ones lol. Can’t say that i’m not disappointed but optimistically speaking, at least the colour swatches don’t look as bad?
Not my cup of tea.
You know I ordered the gravitas pallet this morning (in Canada) and by 6pm it was sold out! Crazy!
Guess I’m not the only one cringing at the packaging. Fashion wise, the color combination might work for a classic and elegant look (40s of age) but for cosmetics, bad move MAC and Brooke Shields. I feel like being warped back in time, but not in a good way.
I’m into the packaging– sort of retro sci-fi? I also like the cream color base duo, but I try to use creams for everything whenever possible, haha.
I would totally skip this if not for the big palette. The packaging is worse than some drugstore brands.
And chance we will get Rocky Horror Picture Show collection swatches?
I also think that the packaging looks cheap :/ Does it feel heavy at least ?
Most of it is pretty light. The lipsticks have a little heft, but the glosses are extremely light.
Man I doo like the shade in the Mortal palette but $53 CAN makes me cringe. I’d rather spend that money on something else.
The Gravitas eyeshadow palette is completely sold out on the Canadian ($102) and US ($85) site. lol
I’m liking most of the colours so far. I don’t mind the packaging.
As gorgeous as the shades are, I feel that the packaging will be a huge turn-off for many shoppers. It’s cheap, plastic-looking and reminiscent of… toy makeup for young teens?! It doesn’t go with the high quality of the products inside. A shame 🙁
Macy’s by me, didn’t get the bronzer. Is it only pro store or online?
MAC didn’t tell me it was exclusive to any particular place.
Im gonna past on this collection. …save my coins for Rocky Hour & the mattes.
Scone looks gorgeous! Not too orange/warm. I’m holding off until I read your review.
MAC has customers in a variety of age cohorts. I’ve been buying MAC for longer than some of their current customers have been alive (an alarming thought, let me tell you).
Now that I’m 45+, I no longer do metallic finishes, glitter or neon shades (ok, UD Electric sheered out is an exception). I know these items seem boring to some and Brooke evokes a ‘who’s she’ reaction from those my daughter’s age, but there is a cohort for whom this is relevant. We also tend to have more discretionary income to spend now that we’re older.
I’ve been a makeup lover for 30 years; that isn’t going to change, but I now reach for more neutral office-friendly shades and more finely milled powders. Gravitas is on it’s way to me, and I’m sure it will get lots of wear.
MAC does plenty of RiRi, Archies, Simpsons and glitterfest collections; I’m glad to see them produce something like this as well (although I loathe the packaging).
,
Agreed! I was thinking the same thing…while the packaging isn’t my favorite, I appreciate the more classic and sophisticated collections every now and then. Who doesn’t love all the crazy (and often, tacky) collections, right? But subtlety is refreshing sometimes!
Like you, I have the Gravitas palette on its way to me!
I like the Mortal palette, but it seems like a beachy/summery set of colors and now that it’s fall in the US, I’m not very inclined to jump on it. I think I can get a similar look from my Lorac Unzipped palette.
I don’t think the packaging is that bad, as others are saying. It’s not that fancy but there’s nothing offensive about it.
The gravitas palette seems like a great deal on a good selection of neutrals, but I’m pretty set in that department. One only needs so many beiges, taupes, and browns. I wonder what the sizes of those shadows are….
Not a fan of the packaging at all! And the shades are so warm-toned – not great for my cool-toned complexion 🙁
I feel the same way. All the products look like they’d only work on warm skin tones.
What a let down. I don’t see anything special. HATE the packaging. Sorry MAC.
So anxious for your swatches on the eyeshadow palette!
Looks like I’m not alone when it comes to cringing at the packaging…at least I’m a fan of some of the product swatches so far.
I kind of like the Mortal palette, especially the mid colour, As for the rest, it’s probably very wearable, but it doesn’t excite me. I hope the Gravitas palette will be really good, as I do want it, I think.
Hmm – not too fussed about this. I think the eyeshadows are very, very dupable – although some are pretty. This will be a miss for me.
So…Gravitas is already sold out on MACs website…do you know if that means “for good” or if it will be restocked?
Ridiculously low quantity if it will not be restocked.
MAC may or may not restock it – it is really anyone’s guess. For such a large item, I don’t think so. With special packaging + a more unique unit, I just don’t think they’ll do another run, but you never know.
The bronzing powder is pretty. Pass!!!
I really like the shades, and I like Brooke Shiels as well… But as I don’t need anything and this packaging is not my thing at all, I will skip.
xoxo
