Sneak Peek: LORAC Mega Pro Palette Photos & Swatches

LORAC Mega Pro Palette
LORAC Mega Pro Palette

LORAC Mega Pro Palette ($59.00 for 0.62 oz.) includes 32 eyeshadows–16 matte, 16 shimmer from white to black to plum to teal. It is a limited edition palette. My order just arrived this afternoon, so I’ll start testing it, but there weren’t too many obvious “that’s going to be a problem” eyeshadows and most felt like the eyeshadows from the previous Pro palettes–soft, silky (but sometimes powdery) mattes, more consistent shimmery shades (less likely to be powdery). It launches tomorrow, exclusively at Amazon and LORAC, so I figured that swatches might be helpful as it’ll take awhile to test 32 shades!

And perhaps, if you’re trying to figure out whether you already have dupes or not, you might try browsing the swatches in the Swatch Gallery, as I have added them there 🙂

Now up on Amazon!! 🙂

Hi Christine! Before I buy this palette , can you tell me which eyeshadows have better payoff between these and the Makeup geek ones ?

BTW Thank you for your awesome reviews, they trust are helpful 🙂

Christine Avatar

Some are better, some are okay, some are misses (true with any brand). Both brands put out good eyeshadow, on average. I would suggest checking the Swatch Gallery for swatches of the eyeshadows you’re interested in for Makeup Geek vs. the shades you’re interested in from this palette to compare 🙂 It’s hard for me to tell you whether the color payoff in this palette is good or not, as I haven’t tested these yet, and swatches aren’t always a guarantee.

Anne-Sophie Savard Avatar

Oops I meant they truly are helpful! Autocorrect again. I’ll definitely check the swatch gallery 🙂 ! Thanks for your suggestion !

Sylirael Avatar

Ooh! I’ve been looking forward to seeing swatches of this one! 😀 I see several shades that I rather like, although some seem surprisingly patchy for LORAC (based on the raves I’ve heard recently). Of course, this rogue would like to exchange some of the neutrals for jewel tones, but there really are a lot of pretty shades in here 🙂 Looking forward to the review!

CatBelly Avatar

Thanks for doing this for us. Just out of curiosity, do you know if the eyeshadows in the earlier released Lorac Pro To Go Eye/Cheek Palette were supposed to be the same as in Pro Palette with just fewer of them? Reason I ask is that I bought that to-go palette earlier this year and I found the shimmer shades made my eyes look crepey and wrinkly. I don’t have this issue with other shimmer shades like Burberry or Kat Von D or Too Faced, but it turned me off from Lorac because of this result. If the earlier released Pro To Go palette represents Lorac eyeshadows (for the most part), then I know to not bother with this new palette even though it looks tempting.

makeupwithaheart Avatar

I have most of the Lorac palettes and the shimmer shades in their regular Pro palettes are much creamier and smoother. The shimmer shades in the To -Go Palette are a bit chalky and powdery but the ones in the regular line are buttery soft and pigmented. I’m hoping their Mega Pro will be just as good!

Himani Avatar

Thanks so much for such timely reviews.. It must take a lot of effort to get them out before the launch date.. 🙂
Really digging this palette.. but having both pro 1 and 2 palette, still not sure m I going to pick dis or not??

Brynn Avatar

That is exactly how I feel!!
I don’t own either of the other ones so this would be a great investment but im hoping these shadows live up to my expectations since everyone raves about the Pro 1 & and Pro 2 palettes!

RERE Avatar

Hi Christine! Amazing swatches as per usual. I do not own any of the other Lorac pro palettes but I was planning to get the Mega pro (definitely getting this one) and the first pro palette. Do you think it is necessary to get both? or can I just pass on the first pro since I’ll be getting the mega one?

Christine Avatar

I don’t think it’s necessary, but it ultimately depends on what shades you use often, what eyeshadow shades you already have in your stash, etc. I would look at Pro 1 and see if there were any shades in it that you feel you don’t have between your stash and the Mega and if you really want them!

Lindsey Avatar

You.are.a.GODSEND!! You seriously are amazing. Thank you Christine!
I feel as if I should want/need this…and I just don’t…I don’t like this feeling at all haha -__-

Mariella Avatar

What I’ve always found refreshing about the Lorac palettes is that the names are simple and tell you what the colours are – Deep Teal, Copper, Dusty Rose….they make so much more sense than names like “Humid”, “Anger”, “Vengeance”, etc.

Brenda Avatar

LOL!! One of the first thoughts I had looking at Christine’s pictures were “I like that these are simply named for the actual colour they are. It makes it easier somehow”. Really 😉

sana khan Avatar

I was actually really excited about this palette but after seeing the swatches on another blog I was really disappointed especially with the color indigo it swatches black but it looks like blue in the picture.. So far only vice 3 palette has drawn my attention

Robin Burris Avatar

First, thank you for the swatches! I think I like the Pro 2 palette better! I think those colors would work better for me. I’m hoping Makeup Forever will release a nice holiday palette this year.

Alicia Avatar

I feel like I’m the only one who is really not interested in this palette. I just think there are so many light neutrals and not enough mid tone/medium shades. It’s just too boring. The colors in here are also pretty dupable. I could see it being nice for someone new to makeup but I am definitely going to pass on this one!

Jane Avatar

Ditto. I have also been deeply underwhelmed by earlier Lorac palettes (maybe I’ve just gotten duds, but they have NO pigmentation!), so I’m not at all inclined to find this one.

I’m also just so over neutral palettes right now.

Meghan Avatar

I am actually so excited because you can’t have enough neautrals in my book. I also am in love with lighter and mid tone shades as I tend to go heavier on my face and lip makeup, so YAY! 🙂

Sarah Avatar

Still so underwhelming. Look at all those light shades :/ A lot of the mattes look kind of iffy to me and after the IT cosmetics naturally pretty vol. 1 palette, I expect high things from mattes.

Watermelon Avatar

Hi Christine, are the colours actually able to be used wet and dry like the description on the website? I’m not sure how the mattes will hold up.

Kim Avatar

I normally am a huge palette fan.. I don’t know if this is over hyped but there is something missing in this palette for me. I think it is a great beginner palette but the swatches look a bit chalky. I’m going to wait to see what the masses think about this before jumping on the bandwagon. Thanks for the swatches!! With so many holiday collections already available already I was wondering which brand releases is everyone still looking forward to?

Larissa Avatar

No, Jade, I totally agree with you. I’d rather spend my money on a Chanel Les 4 Ombres neutral quad, which I find gorgeous and inspiring, than this beast, and they’re about the same price! I don’t own any Lorac Pro palettes, and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve swatched the first and the second in store. I just can’t get excited about them.

And besides, this Mega Pro palettes… there are just way too many pale shades. I don’t see myself using most of them at all, as I’m most attracted by the darker shades and jewel tones. A disappointment for me.

xamyx Avatar

I’m sooo torn!!! On the one hand, I *love* LORAC eyeshadows, and since I have the Pro & plan to grab Pro 2, I kind of feel I *need* this… On the other hand, I just picked up 4 neutral-heavy, warmer-leaning palettes this past week…

Fuu Avatar

If you are willing to share, which palettes did you got recently? I love neutral colors but I need them to be warm or truly neutral (I have a very warm undertone and cool eye shadows look awful on me) I like the Lorac formula so I’m tempted by this palette but I’m not completely sold on it. Some recommendations would be really appreciated 🙂

charlotte Avatar

My absolute favorite purchase lately is the Sigma warm neutrals. The shadows are very good quality, blend like a dream, and every look I’ve done with it has been beautiful. A lot of color options too while still being “neutral”. For something a little less expensive the Coastal Scents revealed 1 (naked 1+2 ish) and revealed 2 (naked 3+ sigma warm neutrals ish) are favorites. #2 is definitely the warmer of the two all around.

Denise Avatar

I really really really want this. But I have the first two Pro palettes, and just blew my budget on the MAC Gravitas palette. Trying to talk myself down off the ledge!

CeliaV Avatar

I think I’m set with Pro 1 and Pro 2. Love that there’s a good amount of purples and lilacs, but there are so many highlight colors! I think I can manage to dupe everything between MUFE 30, 1, 2, etc. The swatches also don’t lure me in like the original 1/2 ones did but I know Lorac sometimes doesn’t swatch as nicely as it goes on the lid. Will be very interested to see the reviews.

Rachel R. Avatar

For me: Too light-color heavy; too neutral heavy; too many shades that look the same when swatched. This is a pass for me, even though it looks like good quality and the colors are pretty.

Carrie Avatar

Cool, pale girl here:

1. Too warm.
2. Too light.

To many of these colors would barely even show on my skin! I’ve been tempted by LORAC, but their palettes just don’t work for me 🙁

xamyx Avatar

That’s the *one* shade that may sway me to actually buy this palette! I’m *obsessed* with red eyeshadow, and every shade in the range…

Mirian Avatar

Thanks for posting the swatches! I think I’ll invest in this palette. It looks like there are only 4 shades that are repeated from the first Pro palette ( white, cream, expresso, black ) which I don’t mind since those colors are great for every look.

NelleShoeGirl Avatar

Thank you, Christine! I’m really trying to decide if I want this. So far, I have not purchased a single holiday palette. I’m just underwhelmed. (Well, I did purchase Vice 3, but I returned it.)

I guess I’m just being more choosey this year, and it’s definitely saving me money, but I’d like to get excited about something. 🙂 Maybe you’ll give this a high rating and I can go ahead and purchase, but there seem to be a million variations on champaign and cream in this palette. 😉

Kirsten Avatar

Ohhh my lord. I don’t have the previous two Lorac Pro Palettes and am honestly glad I waited… this thing is beautiful. Merry Christmas to me (in October lol).

Andrew Avatar

I wish I could have been more wowed by this palette. The names are a little lackluster and some are downright wrong (I’m looking at you, Gray and Maroon), but that seems like a minor detail; it’s not like the name effects the performance of the product. It bugs me that so many look powdery. I could deal with 3-4, but it looks like up to 11 are powdery! That’s just crazy. Add that to the fact that each shadow is less than .02 oz and you’ve got me completely turned off.

My personal opinion? Skip this, shell out an extra $6 and get the Smashbox Master Class Palette III. The online reviews are AMAZING. Better quality, looks good on a broader array of skintones, plus the value can’t be beat. No, it may not have some of the darker, richer Fall colors as this LORAC palette, but you can always mix and swirl shades together! Makeup’s meant to be a medium through which experimentation is not only allowed but welcomed with open arms; so don’t be shy, mix it up to your heart’s content!

Larissa Avatar

So far, out of the holiday collections, the only thing I’ve bought is a Make Up For Ever Studio Case palette so I can finally have a ‘palette’ of MUFE Artist Shadow to play with. (And I’m super pleased with this purchase, too, so long as the shades in the palette perform like their full-sized counterparts I swatched in store.) This is about as uninspiring to me as everything else…. save for Vice 3, which I thought I would be all over because I adore the shades, but I hate the texture of the shadows so much that I just can’t see myself enjoying it.

Welp. Time to spend that saved cash on something I will enjoy, like a Chanel Les 4 Ombres quad. The only problem is figuring out which one to buy!

colorful Avatar

It is funny b/c the only thing that really would push me to want this palette is all of the light highlight colors. they don’t have too many in most of their palettes, and I prefer to have more! I am just not sure I want this.

kelly Avatar

I’m on the LORAC site now, and can’t get the palette, the same stupid PSA on the site says “it’ll launch October 7th” and it’s the 8th. -_-; Can’t add it to my basket at all. It’s making me lose interest in the palette. LORAC, you’re dropping the ball.

kelly Avatar

Yeah, I was able to get it around 3pm EST. After staying up since midnight EST refreshing every 20 minutes. LOL. I was totally convinced it’d drop at midnight and be sold out by 9am.

Sophie Avatar

I’m so conflicted! Some of these eyeshadows are really beautiful and you get 32 shadows overall which is just amazing value. But I’m just not feeling the enthusiasm I thought I would be. I’ve been meaning to try out a Lorac palette for ages and thought this would be the one but now I’m thinking I might go for Unzipped instead.

Deb Avatar

The swatches look great, but I have dupes for virtually all the shades. I think I’m finally at capacity with eyeshadow; I just got Gravitas (LOVE it) but everything else that’s coming looks like what I already have.

The impossible has come true – I have enough red lippies and eyeshadow!

Fran Avatar

Christine, thank you so much for doing this! I’m leaning toward getting this. The eyeshadows in the PRO 2 and PRO TO GO and after GLO palettes work really well on me, are just easy to apply and blend, and last beautifully all day over my usual primer. I really like LORAC shadows so far. Almost everyone’s holiday palettes seem to be very heavy on neutrals, I would prefer more bright, interesting, unique colors, but most of these colors could be neutral workhorses for me. I do use lots of light shadows, only Camel looks too warm for me, reds and pinks are a little hard for me to pull off, but at least Mulberry and Merlot look interesting. I especially like the way Stone, Gray, Indigo and Granite look, at least as swatches. Hopefully the quality in this palette won’t disappoint. Last year I bought a couple of palettes that I liked at first for the colors, but the fact that they took work to use well just meant that they didn’t get used on a daily basis! So I’m trying to not repeat my mistakes, and yet I feel like I want at least one holiday palette. Too bad the fun factor with the colors just doesn’t seem to be around much this year 🙁

Julie Avatar

Uuuugggggghhhhhhhh…. I had such high hopes for this based on the promo pictures! But it looks like this is much, much warmer than those photos made it appear…:(. I get that a lot of people like warm tones, but it seems like they could make these palettes a little more balanced!!

Kristi Avatar

Would you recommend the new UD Vice or this palette? I dont have any of the Lorac pro palettes, and just a few random UD palettes.

Thanks!!!

charlotte Avatar

I just spent hours stalking the Lorac website waiting for it to go live.. only to find out at checkout they won’t ship to me. It’s UPS or nothing and I live on a gated ranch so no UPS here. I’m so pissed. I’m going to try Amazon but as of this moment it’s not on there.

piper Avatar

Thanks for the preview Christine! This all look fairly good and like they could get a lot of use. Also, Lorac’s one word descriptive name are my very favourite. I thoroughly enjoy the concept of their palettes. It feels like is mostly ‘essential colours’. I think I may indulge on this if it performs good enough, since I don’t own any of their palettes.

NelleShoeGirl Avatar

Ok, this is a minor quibble, but is anyone else bothered by the tone of the packaging? There’s something about the dusty maroon shade that just throws me off and makes me think I’m not seeing the shadows correctly. It’s almost as if it was a picture of a black package taken in really poor, yellow, light. It drives me crazy.

kelly Avatar

The packaging isn’t pretty, I’ll totally give you that. But the actual colors are really warm. I compared Christine’s swatches to Leesha (xsparkage’s) swatches because my skin is somewhere in the middle between those two tones, and it does seem to pull really light and really warm.

Linda Avatar

I have both the Pro 1 and Pro 2 palettes and I love them both!! I kept checking both Lorac and Amazon this morning for the Mega Pro to come online, finally Lorac had it before Amazon so I ordered it from Lorac, it took a while since the site was most likely over loaded, Amazon is now already sold out!! I am SO glad I was able to get this, the Lorac site still has it available and free UPS ground shipping, it will take a bit longer than Amazon, but I am fine with that knowing I got it!! Thanks so much for this fantastic post last night Christine!!!!

Nicole Avatar

Ugh..I totally scrambled to get in on this today. Having both the pro and pro 2, I’m somewhat regretting this purchase after viewing the swatches and comparison. I recently tried a few of the MUFE artists shadows. I am thinking about returning this for 3 of those! I am sooo bad at mail returning though 🙂 .Looking forward to your full review. Christine, have you heard anything about holiday collections from Makeup Forever?

Nicole Avatar

Ok. I will. I have not yet received it. I’m a sucker for eyeshadows tho and I do love Lorac’s formula from the pro palettes. So ,in honesty,I will likely keep it. If I decide not, I will let you be the first to know! Please tell me this is not sold out?! Have you tried Lorac, amazon, and HSN? Sometimes,Nordstrom too?

Pami Avatar

Thanks so much for the pics and swatches Christine. Unfortunately, despite a few shades I really like, the palette is overwhelmingly warm so it will be a pass for me. I’ll check your swatch gallery for dupes of the ones I like.
I sure wish we could get a few cool to neutral toned palettes.

Niccola Avatar

Hi Christine. Do you have any idea which website provides international shipping to Malaysia for this pallette? Hope you can share. Thanks!

Sana Avatar

Thanks Christine for the effort.

I don’t know, I still have mixed feelings about this
the first thing that comes in my mind when I look at this is
too many light shades! most of the left half are light colors
Cream, Fawn, White, Lilac, Opal, Sand, Blush, Vanilla, Cashmere
Those 9 are all very ligh to light
mostly they can only be used as highlighters or to be mixed with other colors

Then again
shades like Maroon, Granite, Smokey Topaz, Indigo, Aprocot, Sienna, Copper
are very dupable, even most of the shimemry shades
also some colors look powdery and see through

Sepia, Dusty Plum, Espresso, Stone, Merlot, Deep Teal
were the ones I liked the most.
Wisteria & Dusty Rose shades are nice but one looks very powdery and the others seems sheer

I still think I should get it
I don’t want to pass this then regret it when it’s sold out everywhere.

sai Avatar

I just ordered mine on Amazon!!So glad that they ship internationally and the shipping fee is reasonable

I saw that appeared on Amazon earlier today for some times, but it was sold out instantly b4 i could check out

luckily it is back in stock now! yayyyyyyy!!!

n_hi Avatar

Hi Christine! Do you mind telling us what country these shadows were made in? Compared with the regular Pro palettes? Thanks in advance 🙂

Bella Avatar

I LOVE the 1st and 2nd Pros. They are gorgeous and I feel like they are my go-to shadows. I want this one so bad! I can’t fint it on amazon at all though!

Karla Avatar

I ordered this simply because I need more neutral eyeshadows. I really only have the chocolate bar palette for my transition shades. I think with this Mega Pro and my old Urban Decay NYC book of shadows I’ll make some really pretty looks. I can’t wait…

cindy Avatar

I checked both Lorac and Amazon on October 8th and both are sold out of the mega pro palette. I am not impressed with Lorac’s handling of this much anticipated palette. Why make it exclusive to two sites? How many palettes did they have to begin with? It is really sad that now people are listing these palettes on ebay for exorbitant amounts. Shame on you Lorac! You spent all kinds of money marketing this thing and now can’t deliver!

Valentina Avatar

I personally like the selection at first I thought I’d buy the Vice 3 but I know myself i don’t wear too much color because i have protruding eyes , I have to be very very careful with color, I find this palette useful for my daily routine 🙂 and I have had a good experience with my lorac pro 1 and lorac pro to go, it blends nice on my skin , even without primer, so it was a no brainer to get this one too . For pops of color I opted to wait for Make-up Geek’s circus inspired new eye shadows coming in november 😀 some of the swatches looks amazing – the color circus tent :O. I actually think people should just go try things themselves first and see what it works for them . What make-up products work for some might not work the same for another person , only if you experiment it you will truly know 🙂

Linda Avatar

Got my palette today and I LOVE it!! the Mulberry shade is so gorgeous, I have nothing like it!! I used that with the Orchid shade and it came out awesome! I hope they make that color Permanente in their line, maybe in the next Pro palette.

Abigail G. Avatar

Hi… I’m torn between getting the Lorac Mega Pro Palette or The UD Vice 3 Palette. I’m more for pigmentation… So between the two, which one would you highly recommend? thanks!
