I’m really pulling for these. But, it looks like primer may be necessary for a few shades. I’m fine with that. I would prefer not to need it. But, for $26, if these can pull a B+ , I’ll be pretty happy.
You are awesome, Christine! Overall, I see a few swatches looking a little less than perfect in each one of the palettes, but overall, I think they look very decent. I’m loving the Plum, but also eyeballing the Smoke palette too.
I must admit that plum is speaking my name, if you know what I mean. Too bad that Kat Von D is not available in central Europe. Oh well, Urban Decay got here last year, perhaps this brand decides to expand some time soon as well. I hear that their felt tip eyeliner is really good.
I’m encoraged by the plum palette swatches. I’m new to KvD. Is the define shade a lid shade and the contour shade a crease shade?
The swatches look pretty good. I’m hoping these aren’t the dusty eyeshadow formula, though
I keep getting the “cool down” message today, and can’t log in. Clearing my cache has worked before, but it’s not now. I tried the Google Chrome version, and the latest Firefox..
Hey Rachel,
I adjusted a change to it about an hour and a half ago so that the timeout should be a LOT longer, and the auto logout should be 14 days (instead of 2). Could you let me know if you have any issues still this afternoon or after that?
Sure thing. Thank you for your help. I’m not sure what you mean by auto logout. I usually log myself out, but maybe I’m misunderstanding the term.
If you click “remember me” (something to that effect) on a site, it won’t log you out for a predetermined length of time – the plugin we’re using for added login security was set at 2, WordPress’ default is 14 days. I changed it to 14 days – which effectively means if you don’t logout manually or often, then you won’t have to re-login as often. But if you’re logging out regularly, then it won’t make a difference for you 😉
OK; got you. Thank you for explaining.
Wow – looks like she nailed the pigmentation with these. Good for her, I like watching the brand’s evolution (I’m recalling the duo blushes that came out a while ago that were not so great) and that it seems like she is taking into account what works and what doesn’t and is constantly improving her products. I suppose you have to if you want to stay alive in the industry, but Kat seems like she is a constant presence and very hands on and her brand is not going anywhere, anytime soon. I like all of these and am looking forward to reviews.
Hmmm, IDK, the swatches look hit or miss. Every quad seems to have at least 1 shade that looks great, and 1 that looks kind of weak, will need primer or cream base. I like the dark plum, dark green, dark brown, and black –wish they would put all these into 1 quad LOL
I like all the colors in Sage except the base color. I like all the colors in Smoke, although it looks like the contour shade may have some issues. Overall, if the quality on eyes is as good as in the swatches, it looks like these would be well above average to great for matte shadows. Which I pretty much rarely use any more. So these may not be for me — I think I’ll have to read your reviews, Christine, and look at them myself in-store before I can decide. The concept of these does appeal to me.
I love Kat Von D (mostly ’cause I love tattoos), but I am not feeling these at all. No idea why, they just don’t appeal to me. Oh well, all the better for my wallet.
These look to be mostly winners! I only spotted one miss, the contour shade in Smoke. Other than that, I love how these look in swatches, but still would want to wait on your reviews to see how well they work in actual practice. I now regret going on a MAC eyeshadow haul of plums last night after seeing the Plum Quad!
I definitely want Plum, Smoke, & Sage, but maybe Rust, too… Well, I know what I’m using my 15% off for, LOL!
It’s really weird, but the more I see of these, the less I want them. They just look more and more like shades I already have.
I think these would be really nice for someone new-ish to makeup who doesn’t have a large eyeshadow stash or some good, basic, practical-to-use palettes but looking at these, I’d rather build my own 4-pans with individual selections of my own choosing. There are better greys than the “contour” shade in Smoke, dark greens I like better than the one in the Sage quad, etc. The really orange shades are way too much for me so I’d be happier putting things together with a more toned down orange choice.
I was cautiously optimistic about the plums, and sadly, as I suspected, the first two shades are too warm and/or red based for me to pull off well. Thank you for the sneak peek!
Man. I was hoping I wouldn’t feel like I needed all of these. But I think I do. Know what I’m asking the husband to get me for mothers days now. ?
omg all of these look good! and i was only planning on getting one…
The shades in the plum palette look perfect. I hope the formula is good too.
I really like the sage one for the green; I’ve been contemplating getting the MUG equivalent. The two neutral-ish colors are always welcome, I just don’t need the highlighter. Hmmmm…
I can’t log in — it keeps giving me a “cool down” message, and I’m not doing anything any differently. (Except I may have forgotten to check the box confirming I’m a human the first time; still, can’t get in at all now.)
I’d just wait… a minute, and then see. If you don’t tick the box, it’ll definitely hold you from logging in! Let me know if you can’t back in even after a few minutes.
I tried again this morning, and clicked the box properly, and it still gives me a cool down. 🙁
I’ve disabled the plugin until my team can look into it tomorrow.
Hmmm – I don’t think I like these as much as I thought I would. Apart from the fact they are nearly all mattes, the colours would not really suit me.
I like the green in Sage and the contour in Rust! Otherwise a skip for me.
Some of the swatches are not perfect, but I really like these color combinations and look forward to reviews. Hopefully the formulas are better than those duo blushes that came out a while ago.
I don’t know- the price isn’t bad but the colors are so…basic! Wish at least one shade would have had some zing… Maybe they will impress me more at the store.
half these swatches make me want to cry! 🙁
It must be me but I really don’t like these….
I like those, I’d wear all of those, although maybe the Rust one, not so much, tho the orange shade is nice! I hope they wear a little less dusty than they look in the swatches.
I’m dying over Plum. I wanted Smoke too but it doesn’t seem as quality as Plum.
