Kat Von D Shade + Light Quads

There are four variations of Kat Von D Shade + Light Quad ($26.00 for 0.21 oz.) available. They use the same formula found in the Shade + Light Eye palette. These are new and permanent. Full reviews to come as I can get them up!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I’m really pulling for these. But, it looks like primer may be necessary for a few shades. I’m fine with that. I would prefer not to need it. But, for $26, if these can pull a B+ , I’ll be pretty happy.

I must admit that plum is speaking my name, if you know what I mean. Too bad that Kat Von D is not available in central Europe. Oh well, Urban Decay got here last year, perhaps this brand decides to expand some time soon as well. I hear that their felt tip eyeliner is really good.

I’m encoraged by the plum palette swatches. I’m new to KvD. Is the define shade a lid shade and the contour shade a crease shade?

The swatches look pretty good. I’m hoping these aren’t the dusty eyeshadow formula, though

I keep getting the “cool down” message today, and can’t log in. Clearing my cache has worked before, but it’s not now. I tried the Google Chrome version, and the latest Firefox..

Sure thing. Thank you for your help. I’m not sure what you mean by auto logout. I usually log myself out, but maybe I’m misunderstanding the term.

If you click “remember me” (something to that effect) on a site, it won’t log you out for a predetermined length of time – the plugin we’re using for added login security was set at 2, WordPress’ default is 14 days. I changed it to 14 days – which effectively means if you don’t logout manually or often, then you won’t have to re-login as often. But if you’re logging out regularly, then it won’t make a difference for you 😉

Wow – looks like she nailed the pigmentation with these. Good for her, I like watching the brand’s evolution (I’m recalling the duo blushes that came out a while ago that were not so great) and that it seems like she is taking into account what works and what doesn’t and is constantly improving her products. I suppose you have to if you want to stay alive in the industry, but Kat seems like she is a constant presence and very hands on and her brand is not going anywhere, anytime soon. I like all of these and am looking forward to reviews.

Hmmm, IDK, the swatches look hit or miss. Every quad seems to have at least 1 shade that looks great, and 1 that looks kind of weak, will need primer or cream base. I like the dark plum, dark green, dark brown, and black –wish they would put all these into 1 quad LOL

I like all the colors in Sage except the base color. I like all the colors in Smoke, although it looks like the contour shade may have some issues. Overall, if the quality on eyes is as good as in the swatches, it looks like these would be well above average to great for matte shadows. Which I pretty much rarely use any more. So these may not be for me — I think I’ll have to read your reviews, Christine, and look at them myself in-store before I can decide. The concept of these does appeal to me.

I love Kat Von D (mostly ’cause I love tattoos), but I am not feeling these at all. No idea why, they just don’t appeal to me. Oh well, all the better for my wallet.

It’s really weird, but the more I see of these, the less I want them. They just look more and more like shades I already have.

I think these would be really nice for someone new-ish to makeup who doesn’t have a large eyeshadow stash or some good, basic, practical-to-use palettes but looking at these, I’d rather build my own 4-pans with individual selections of my own choosing. There are better greys than the “contour” shade in Smoke, dark greens I like better than the one in the Sage quad, etc. The really orange shades are way too much for me so I’d be happier putting things together with a more toned down orange choice.

Pam Avatar

I was cautiously optimistic about the plums, and sadly, as I suspected, the first two shades are too warm and/or red based for me to pull off well. Thank you for the sneak peek!

Hanna Avatar

Man. I was hoping I wouldn’t feel like I needed all of these. But I think I do. Know what I’m asking the husband to get me for mothers days now. ?

Alecto Avatar

I really like the sage one for the green; I’ve been contemplating getting the MUG equivalent. The two neutral-ish colors are always welcome, I just don’t need the highlighter. Hmmmm…

I can’t log in — it keeps giving me a “cool down” message, and I’m not doing anything any differently. (Except I may have forgotten to check the box confirming I’m a human the first time; still, can’t get in at all now.)

I like those, I’d wear all of those, although maybe the Rust one, not so much, tho the orange shade is nice! I hope they wear a little less dusty than they look in the swatches.
