These came off very dry, ashy, chalky, not blendable at all, and lacked pigmentation. Look at the patchy shades like Misfits and Jetta. And 1980’s disappointed me the most. It was just a mess.

Dusty Avatar

Amen! This was complete crap – not so much because the shadows aren’t any good (though IMO they aren’t… especially for the price tag) but also because the colors are all wrong and not as vibrant as they should have been (even if you’ve never watched Jem before and only saw the photos on Sephora’s website). I opened this with SO MUCH excitement and when I saw the colors actually – no lie – logged onto Sephora.com to see if there was something wrong. Surely I’d been sent the wrong palette… but that didn’t make any sense either.

Bottom line: Horrified, saddened… returned.

Being a baby of the 80’s, I can’t say child because I was too young to remember a single episode of the series, I failed at the colour associating myself.

That said the Sephora Disney collection did take the time to match some of the shades to the product names, but that was probably more Disney than anything. You can blame this also on Hasbro for not taking the interest in their franchise branding! (pet’s Dusty on the head)

That said, I think the tone of the shades are spot on. They where not acid neons (like the early 90’s) they were softer on screen and print.

I returned mine the same day as well. This is definitely the worst thing I’ve ever put on my eyelids. The color payoff was pitiful, and my eyelids were raw and red after wearing these shadows (I don’t have sensitive eyes or skin, so I don’t know what happened there).

I’ve been having trouble with your site the last two weeks. I’m on android. Often I can’t see whole posts. It will stop before dupes or comments. Also, the Kindle fire ad today is a giant pain in the butt. It keeps covering my screen as I type this.

Christine Avatar

Hi Staci,

We think we tracked down a rogue ad that was having that issue, but we are not 100% sure – we could not get the ad to trigger all the time, and it only occurs on Android mobile. Could you let me know if you have issues? The best is to email support or nick[at]temptalia.com whenever you spot the issue so we can try to resolve it right away!

I got this palette and I’m a fan. The only colour that gave me grief was 1980’s but it’s nothing a little Primer Potion in Anti-Aging didn’t fix. I like that it’s made into vertical quads!

Carrie Avatar

Curious to see the review – most of the swatches are decent-good or better yet I’ve heard tons of negative things. Maybe this is one that swatches better than wears?

markiebamboo Avatar

Looks like they named the colors rather abitrarily. Most of these characters bring strong color associations to mind and none of them are names accordingly. Manic Manic did hair dyes that match the characters hair colors.

Candace Avatar

I agree. I grew up with the cartoon and am still a big fan and some of these choices are downright baffling. How do you make a Jem-themed eyeshadow palette and have a bright neon green but name it “keytar” and not PIzzazz?? Seems like they just put Jem-oriented names into a hat and pulled them out at random. This coupled with the disappointing quality makes it a definite miss for me, which is a shame, because I love the throwback packaging. My partner and I decided to just make our own with MAC or Inglot shades, lol.

Kristin Avatar

I’ve said the same thing! It’s like they took a generic, somewhat colorful eyeshadow palette and slapped the Jem logo on it. As a child of the 80’s who watched Jem every day (and still has all the dolls!) I feel like this palette missed the mark- it should inspire nostalgia; but it doesn’t, which is a shame because I’m the target audience. (If it did, I think many of us would forgive the subpar performance of some of the colors.)

Dusty Avatar

This is a GREAT palette… for parents who want to get their kids something to play in that won’t make it look like they are wearing anything.

This is a FANTASTIC palette… if you’ve just woken from your prehistoric caveman slumber and have never seen or used an eyeshadow – or fire – before.

This is a WONDERFUL palette… for me to poop on [insert Triumph the Insult Comic Dog meme here].

Wait I’ve got one more!

Jem: “It’s showtime Synergy!”
Synergy: “Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 9.”

I got this & was horribly disappointed with the swatches. However, I found that with a primer I love it. It’s buildable & blends well for me. I’m definitely a fan.❤️

Genevieve Avatar

This is interesting, because other beauty bloggers – I think it was the Muse, suggested that this palette wasn’t as good as it should have been and the colours seemed very mismatched. The matte shades seem to be very poor, whilst some of the shimmer shades aren’t too bad. Hmmmm.

Elisheva Avatar

I’m surprised to hear that so many were terribly disappointed with this palette. I watched the YT review by Cora (vintageortacky), and I almost bought the palette because the palette, swatches, and look she put together look so awesome. I will be very interested to see the temptalia ratings.

Nancy T Avatar

Call me undecided? I have heard reviews both hot and cold on this, so Idk? What I DO know is that I’m up to my tush in eyeshadow palettes! And I think at this rate, eventually, my eyeballs themselves….?

Shana Avatar

I’ve seen swatches of this and was extremely excited to get it (minus 1980’s which everyone has agreed has a very odd crumbly texture) but now I’m seeing that a LOT of people were very disappointed in it and ended up returning it…so now I’m not so sure!

Danielle Avatar

I ordered this the day it was released and read all the bad reviews after. My thoughts: I actually really like it. Have been using this the past few days and pulling off some really nice looks. Over a good primer blends nicely. Happy with it. Love the liquid lipsticks even more.

Helene Avatar

It will be interesting to read the reviews as there seem to be many opinions about this palette. I’m not familiar with Jem, will Google, so I can’t say anything about that. I do thing some of the swatches looked quite good, some not so much.
I don’t think I’ll get the palette even if it gets a good grade, there are too many colours I would get too little use of.

Lacey Avatar

I’ve been so let down by this Jem revival across the board. (I suspect Pizzazz is behind it.)

There are a few colors that look nice in the swatches, but I feel like I have dupes in my collection or have seen dupes in recent reviews. If the quality isn’t there in use, then this is a definite miss.

Evelyn Avatar

These swatches have convinced me that I do not need this palette. I was hoping that some of the shades would have duochrome effects based on some of the promotional photos, but it seems that they are all quite mundane. D:
