Smashbox #Repost Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) contains three shimmery shades with two being more distinctive duochrome shades and one having a subtle shift but more of an iridescent finish overall. The quality of the shades made this one a miss–only one decent shade in the trio!

Sparkle Pony
Sparkle Pony is a light beige base with pink-to-lavender shifting pearl. The texture was on the more powdery side, which made it feel dry and had it applying unevenly to bare skin (it was slightly better over primer). It had medium coverage, which didn’t build up well. On me, it lasted for six and a half hours on me.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to be "super-blendable" and "richly-pigmented." I found the quality to vary a lot from shade to shade, even with a trio, as some shades had soft, blendable texture and others were drier, dusty, and messy to work with and had pigmentation that sheered out or faded quickly. I wanted to like them more than I ended up after using them on the lid as I routinely felt like the brighter shades never looked quite as vibrant in practice as they did in the pan. Most of the shades were blendable and had coverage from medium to opaque with a few being sheer. They lasted anywhere from five to eight hours on me.

Say What
Say What is a light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was soft to the touch, a little powdery, and had some fallout when I worked with it on the lid as the powder did not adhere as evenly to the lid as expected. It had medium pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque over primer. It wore well for seven hours on me.

Stormy
Stormy is a plummy purple base with blue-to-violet pearl. It was a more complex color, and it was the better performing shade in the palette, though it wasn’t amazing. The texture was a bit drier and could have been easier to blend out, but it was at least pigmented and lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Even though Stormy is a pretty shade, these little trios are turning out to be like DS fails.
Under your evaluation of the shade Stormy are listed potential dupes. One of these—take note, I’m quoting—“Smashbox Stormy (P, ) is darker (90% similar).”
Smashbox Stormy is 90% similar to Smashbox Stormy? I would have thought the percentage would be higher.
It’s a shade in another palette with the same name (and technically, different formula), which may be intended to be the same, but it was not the same. If you click on the Dupe List, you can see side-by-side swatches that clearly show the difference! 🙂
These trios are an interesting concept, the move-away from mega palettes to core trios that can yield a few looks. They are somewhat ‘instructional,’ good for those folks who struggle to put things together. They buck the tide. Unfortunately, they seem to be average (which we don’t have to accept, thanks to you,) with some outliers very subpar. What I find odd about #repost, is that the traditionally ‘easy to formulate’ shades are so poor, and the most difficult is the best. Overall, good concept, poor execution in these trios.
Beautiful eye look Christine! I love that bit of green in there!
Those first two shades immediately made me think of eyeshadow *toppers* instead of standalone eyeshadows. Too bad that Smashbox didn’t bother to market them as such!
Oh well, I know there are superior performing dupes strewn throughout my stash.
oof… seems like drugstore.
Stormy is a lot different than what I expected!
