Smashbox Double Tap Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio Review, Photos, Swatches
Double Tap
Smashbox Double Tap Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) contains a light peach, soft bronze, and deep brown with the first two having a shimmery finish and the last shade having a matte finish. It wasn’t the worst set of shades I’ve worn, but all three could have been improved, so for the type of hues used (not particularly unique) and the price point, I’m not sure where Smashbox was going with this offering.

Meme Girl
Meme Girl is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It went on substantially lighter than it appeared in the pan. The eyeshadow had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was somewhat buildable but much improved over a primer. The consistency was soft, smooth, and not too powdery in the pan, so it was easy to use and mess-free. It lasted for seven hours on me.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to be "super-blendable" and "richly-pigmented." I found the quality to vary a lot from shade to shade, even with a trio, as some shades had soft, blendable texture and others were drier, dusty, and messy to work with and had pigmentation that sheered out or faded quickly. I wanted to like them more than I ended up after using them on the lid as I routinely felt like the brighter shades never looked quite as vibrant in practice as they did in the pan. Most of the shades were blendable and had coverage from medium to opaque with a few being sheer. They lasted anywhere from five to eight hours on me.

Gif Me That
Gif Me That is a soft, coppery bronze with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was drier and a bit prone to sheering out on the lid, though it had good pigmentation to begin with. This shade started to fade on me after seven hours of wear.

Side Hustle
Side Hustle is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable on the lid, but the texture was drier and thinner, which made it hard to diffuse and blend the color for even application on the lid or in the crease. I noticed this shade had started to fade noticeably after seven and a half hours of wear.

I’ve already purchased 2 of the new eyeshadow trios but this one just doesn’t thrill me (even if it had scored better). I really like the look of Gif Me That but I have a few dupes and the other 2 shades – even if they’d scored higher – just don’t “grab” me.
Nope, nope, nope. I cannot wrap my head around how Smashbox couldn’t get at least this super basic neutral trio right. I mean, really now!
I really like the colour combination, perfect for everyday wear, but as you stated Christine, the shades could have been a lot better.
