Yep kjh – we pay a very hefty price for our makeup. Poor Australian dollar + international shipping rates + cosmetics tax + retailers mark up = very expensive.
I rarely buy anything from Mecca.

I’m always surprised at this. I know when a coworker in Australia comes over, he goes on a shopping spree. Last time, his lovely wife came and I took her to Sephora. She went nuts. She bought almost $1500 worth of stuff for herself, her friends and family. Occasionally, I will make a purchase for her and mail it as a “gift”. It’s just crazy about the markup.

Plus the small size of the market doesn’t help decrease unit cost. Whole continent for 25m people. In small cities they just get like a crazy 50 units of an item – can you image the unit cost of transporting that measly # of items? On the plus side, stuff run out less fast. When things run out in USA I ask Oz friends to find it locally and more often than not they’re successful. Better than paying the Ebay vultures.

I think the products that have the biggest discount or are on sale first are the ones the retailer cannot sell at full price – eg the Norvina palettes. I recall that they rated pretty poorly.
Ditto for the lipstick shades that are unpopular.
Anyway, I hope that everyone who wants to, can pick up a bargain.

Agreed. So are the majority of sales with selected products. Overstock Clearance. Ulta’s 21 days I find to be the same; the stuff I want is never included. At least in retail here, they CALL it a clearance sale.

I feel like there are always big sales now a day. I really are not tempted by anything sale anymore, unless it is something that has been on my wish list for a long time. For the most part, I am happy to pay Colourpop price for Colourpop products so unless it is something that is absolute best in its class, why spend the money?

This is the second time much of the Peach Too Faced collection has been on sale recently; makes me think we may be seeing a discontinuation. I took advantage and bought the Peach Perfect powder again…it’s one of my favorites, and I’ll be very sad if it is on its way out!

Thank you for featuring interesting sales items and updating this.

May I bring up something that happened the other day at my local JCP Sephora? I had been avoiding it since our retail stores reopened because the JCP Sephora had been roped off and required special access to get inside. A few days ago, I saw there was no line or even people inside so I decided to go inside.

I was allowed inside after being told about all the controls, but it was so dismal in there! The thing that really got me, and wasn’t a policy mentioned or enforced when I visited a freestanding Sephora store several weeks ago, is that I was told by the JCP Sephora gatekeeper that anything I touched would be set aside (so basically, no touching). It’s bad enough that there are no testers to even look at (let alone touch), but not being able to touch boxes to see colors available or ingredients, etc. is a bridge too far for me. WTH?

I’m probably in the minority here but if there are no issues with touching clothing right outside the JCP Sephora bubble, I find this JCP Sephora policy to be serious overreach, Corona theater at its most extreme. I don’t think the policy is supported by science. Yes, I could be infected and sneeze my virus droplets all over surfaces, but for the most part, I think much of this is so overblown. And don’t get me started on the store policies of not trying on any clothing (although my local American Eagle and Nordstrom apparently have figured out that many people refuse to buy wrong sizing and go through a return process to buy clothing). I think if these stores, especially those like makeup stores but also clothing stores, don’t figure out a way to allow for the customer to see and engage with their products, these stores won’t survive much longer.

Really I thought they all were like that with Saran Wrap over everything?

Well face it swatching stuff there is a hotbed of germs before the virus. Safer to look at christines swatches. Hopefully IF people will comply it’s temporary. In healthcare we figure it’s here to stay so who knows.

Agree agree agree, I did not buy one item at sephora during the sale, I’m actually going to loose my rouge this year for the first time in forever…… I cant deal with this covid cult crap……..been buying indie exclusively………I will buy direct from companies for mascara or powders when the need comes up…..but I wont go into a store that treats us customers like a dirty human……no thanks…..very creepy feeling it gives me……yuk

I’ve noticed a few of my Tom Ford lipsticks have lost their vanilla scent, I don’t know that I’d say they turn, but they’re on par with the Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown lipsticks I have that all have a similar vanilla scent! Last time I checked, I pulled 50 at random, and it was around five or so that didn’t smell like vanilla for me.

Yes, I wonder if CoverFX will only be at Ulta. Honestly there are so many new brands and products out there, I don’t mind if they try not to carry the same lines. The only time it bugs me is if one is out of something, I can’t just swing by the other, but I’m doing most of my shopping online now anyway even though there are multiple Ulta and Sephora stores in my urban area. Pre-COVID makeup browsing was such a tactile experience and it’s just depressing going in there now. I wonder what the future “normal” will look like.

Lauren Avatar

It’s so hard to tell and since we currently can’t swatch anything I couldn’t even try to find it in a store. I could just buy and return it if doesn’t work but I don’t like doing that if I don’t have to.

Haley Avatar

Do you have any speculation as to why the LuxeTrance line is being discontinued? It’s the only luxury level lipstick I’ve ordered multiples of, I’m such a huge fan! It seems like such a classic line.

Lori Avatar

Is Sephora planning a Fall VIB sale? I am holding out for the ND Glam palette since I’m back up to Rouge. Others in quarantine have stopped buying much; but not me! (Rolling my eyes…) Retail therapy has been a dangerous cure for boredom!

Robin Avatar

Thank you! I purchased Viseart’s Paris Nudes during the Beautylish gift card sale and I’m in love with it! I just ordered the Dark Mattes since it’s on sale plus my BI 10%. 🙂 Appreciate your sales updates.

AJ Avatar

Well I feel like a chump getting the Bite Power Moves crayon trio during the 20% sale when I could have waited 2 weeks and had it at 50% instead. I would not have expected it to go half-off before the holidays, heck, before even Black Friday has come and gone.

If I can weigh in with my Melt experiences: Haze – worth it!, Shapeshift – skip it! (even on sale), I wish I’d gotten the Impulsive for that price rather than close to full price. I adore Melt. Adore them! But I have a hard time paying full price as there is a bit of a gap between price and quality. Having said that, outside of the Shapeshift (god awful stack with two of the four shades being unusable), I’ve loved everything I’ve purchased on sale.

Do you happen to know if it’s a single use or multi use code? My mom wants perfume and lives in another state so definitely easier 2 orders.
