Tom Ford Escapade or Pink Haze!
Thanks to reader Phoebe for today’s question idea Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
Stila’s Kitten! Absolutely love that eyeshadow.
MAC Gilt by Association if I wanted it to be noticable, or MAC White Frost if I just wanted a little highlight. I b cannot even remember the last time I only eore one shade of eyeshadow.
MAC Groundwork or Benefit’s Flatter Me!
I don’t bother with much eye make up daily, so I tend to dab MAC Nylon with my finger over my eyelids. I’m very pale so it almost matches my skintone, and the shimmer in it brings some light to the eyes!
MAC All that Glitters
I usually skip the eyeshadow entirely and just go with the Too Faced Candlelight primer, which is sort of a shimmery gold– but one I can smudge on quickly with my fingers!
If I’m running late, I will slap on Benefit’s Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in Call My Bluff–it’s a light almond beige color that’s a little lighter than my skin color, so it really brightens up the eye area and makes me look awake. Then I just swipe on some lipstick and run out the door!
Any medium, matte brown, or motive’s ‘pink diamond’, which looks awesome with my eye color.
This morning I was in a rush and grabbed Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Illusoire. I blended it out a little, applied liner and mascara and voila!
maybelline color tatto in bad to the bronze!
Mac Naked Lunch
MAC’s Satin Taupe
Urban Decay Mildew or Goddess.
It’s cracking me up to say this but I would put lorac Pro’s cream because it matches my skin tone and then just line my eyes. I’d rather make a blank canvas and erasure of any discoloration for a properly nude look.
MAC Woodwinked because I can blend it out to look like a proper eye look.
Mac’s Naked Lunch was my jam, lol..but lately I’ve been using Chanel’s Mirage.
Speaking of rush, l’oreal infallible eyeshadow in amber rush is great for a one shadow look. A true rose gold.
I wish I could get hold of one of the TF cream shadows but right now my no-time-look-good eye shadow is Mirage from Chanel
Urban Decay Juju 24/7 Shadow Pencil
It wears like iron on my oily lids (with or without primer), even better than M·A·C Paint Pot!
Not only this was a limited edition shade, they also had to discontinue this awesome product…. 🙁
Same! It’s one of my faves, and yes, very disappointed I can’t repurchase. But if you know of any dupes, please share!
I go for one of three similar colors: BareMinerals i.d. loose powder eyeshadow in Bubbly or Barely There, or Colorevolution loose mineral eyeshadow in Surreal. They are all medium-light pinky nudes with shimmer. Very easy to buff over the entire eye quickly, and the colors go with everything. They don’t look weird if I have to skip liner and/or mascara. They are easy to dress up with liner and mascara, or add other shadow colors to later if I want to.
*Bare Skin, not Barely There. Sorry.
MAC orb, cause it brightens my eyes, or maybelline color tattoo in tough as taupe.
Also I like ingot pigment 35, but it’s more evening look and requires more makeup on.
One of Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres,
Clinique Black Honey eyeshadow.
Shiro Climbing Chaos – “Rich velvety brown with a warm metallic copper-bronze shine” – looks like rich suede on the lids, and only needs to be blended well for a complete-looking eye
Thankfully I have so many good ones I can just slap on — the brown Eyelid and Crease shades in WnW Comfort Zone for example, or the reddish brown in IsaDora Matte Chocolates, or the second darkest in L’Oréal Color Riche quad Marron Glace. Those tend to be my go-to shades for a neutral day look when I’m in a hurry.
Cargo Yukon, MAC Golden Gaze, Inglot 422 or 420 or Benefit Birthday Suit. Actually, I’ve got a lot of “one and done” shadows that stand alone and look great.
Most probably a cream shadow/eyeshadow stick because I can do it with my pinky! Let’s say Laura Mercier Sandglow and Chanel Mirage.
NARS Nepal
I’d probably grab a taupe from my Naked 3 palette.
Urban Decay’s Sidecar is my go-to shade when I’m in a rush!
Loreal Amber Rush or UD Bootycall or UD Sin
Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop in Volver or Au revoir. Easy to brighten me up and foolproof. Plus it really has great staying power.
MAC- shroom
Clinique chubbystick in Whipping Willow.
gold
Right now: MUFE Aqua Cream in # 13 (shimmery champagne) or UD Laced. As soon as I’m on my next beauty budget: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Moonlight. It has such a pretty glow!
Any cream eye shadow on a stick. I have plenty shades to choose from, and they all apply super easily just with the finger. No hassle.
Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick in Smoke!
In days when I’m wearing a no-makeup makeup look, I always gravitate to MAC Painterly Paintpot. Other than that, I have two favorites, Bad to the bronze color tattoo and MAC Eclair paintpot (looooove this one).
Definitely a cream because I’m super slow with powders. It’s difficult to choose between Tom Ford Platinum (the original, the new version is too warm) and Illamasqua Embellish. I frequently wear both as one and done.
p.s. Phoebe: really great question~
Agree! And very timely too! For the past few days I’ve been searching for that single eyeshadow color for everyday use. This blog is the answer…as always.
Chanel’s Mirage or Buxom’s Golden Retriever 🙂 Sometimes I just want a neutral base and just leave it at mac’s soft ochre!!
You got me hooked, Christine! I would probably just apply Tom Ford Platinum! (I actually did this morning when I woke up late for work!)
Easy. I’d pick Painterly! =O
Mac Satin Taupe
Maybelline’s Bad to the Bronze, or Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick in Cocoa.
I know when from applying eye makeup every single day it’s probably the quickest part of the application for me, so from my eyeshadow palette I would apply a light nude color over my whole base and then a darker brown in the corners – just gives my blue eyes more standing out ability power!
what about you? 🙂
Urban Decay South! It’s the only eyeshadow I’m wearing today, as a matter of fact. xP
any shimmery champagne nude eyeshadow will do
Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia. I apply it with my fingers, then blend it out with a blending brush. Super quick!
Either Urban Decay Half Bake or X eyeshadows.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Rose Gold or Ardency Inn Modster in Sunday
MAC Paint Pot in Frozen Violet
If I’m in a rush I normally just skip eyeshadow. If I would really want some on, then I would go for something luminizing or soft that you can easily apply and blend at the same time with a fluffy blush, like Mac Satin Taupe for example.
Stila Kitten or it’s drug store dupe Iced Latte. I might also say NARS Lhasa but I just got it and haven’t used it enough!
ColourPop Get Lucky. Everything I want Urban Decay’s Chopper to be, but $5 instead of $18.
I don´t know why is not that popula but I love MAC – Patina eyeshadow! I am on my 3rd pan!
MAC Amber Lights or MAC Indianwood Paint pot
MAC phloof!!
MAC All The Glitters or Satin Taupe, depending on my mood and clothes.
This was quite hard to answer.
Burberry Midnight Brown or any purple eyeshadow.
Purple instantly defines my brown/hazelish eyes and no liner or mascara is needed !!!
Now that I own the Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Sticks -any of those!!
A dark shade–whichever matches my eyeliner to set it.
Rock ‘N’ Roll Bride by Zoeva. It’s actually an eyeliner pencil but I always smudge it into an eyeshadow 🙂
MAC Satin Taupe or Maybelline Color Tatoo in Chocolate Suede (my choice as of late when in a rush).
Sephora 12 hour jumbo liner – waterproof – I use this as an eyeshadow. 22 Dark Taupe Shimmer.
MAC’s Constructivist or Idyllic
For a very simple almost-no-makeup look, I could swipe on OCC’s Crème Color Concentrate in “John Doe.”
I have ridiculously oily lids, so if I were to put a powder shadow onto unprimed lids, I’d have the creasy-creasies in a matter of seconds. “John Doe,” however, will stay put for two to three hours, and it’s a wonderful matte neutral.
I meant, of course, “creasy-greasies!
A medium matte brown, matte grey or blue-grey. The ones I reach for are discontinued or obscure so I won’t mention any specific products.
MAC Satin Taupe or Covergirl Tapestry Taupe. Both colors are essentially the same and flatter everyone I can think of!
A neutral maybe buck from ud mixed with virgin
Either Sleek Makeup eye dust in “Dirty” or RMS cream eyeshadow in “Magnetic.” Both can be applied with fingers. They’re also both easy to transform just by building up the color.
I work shift work, so in the morning, I like to apply Mac Arena and in the evening I would apply Mac Soft Brown.. and on days off… well nothing if I’m in a hurry.
Mac’s paint pot in Eclair, Mac e/s Sable or Tempting.
Either one of the greys from EL film noir (I wear a lot of black and white), or the navy from Shiseido’s Snow Shadow -if I am wearing navy. Just blend them in and I’m off.
MAC Satin Taupe.
I’d just use my blush! 😀
My eyes are a bit hooded so I would choose a medium warm brown, at least
in the crease or deeper in the crease. I love colors and usually use at least four colors but not when in a hurry.
Makeup Geeks Cosmopolitian.
tough as taupe – maybelline color tattoo
When I am in a hurry I use Shahnaz Husain Shaeyes Kohl/Herbal liner. It works as a black eye liner and grey shadow.
I got the six set of Laura Mercier caviar eyeshadow sticks you recommended this month and I have used one or two of them every time I don’t have time to do a full eye look, which has been four times in the past two weeks. Seriously, I’ve never used ANYTHING four times in one month, much less two weeks. These sticks are a revelation for me!
Probably UD Sin, or Bootycall, or any of the 1001 (Ok, it’s like 5, but still) other ‘champagne shimmer’-related eyeshadows I have 😉
Color tattoo (leather) in creamy beige! Darker than it sounds and easy to swipe around and fix if you mess it up at first.
MAC Symmetry, my perfect contour….I need to order more asap.
A shade called Grace from Ulta, it is this wonderful matte plum/gray smoky shade, and I use it with almost every other color I
I would apply two.
Bobbi brown Taupe in the crease and Mac Soft & Gentle over the lid abd inner corner.
Ive ill have some time left ill pop some peach smoothie in the crease as well.
But one shadow is no option for me
MAC Naked Lunch
Edie by Nars or Buttercream by Laura Mercier. Both are skin color and make my eyes brighter without looking like I’m wearing anything.
i might bend the rules here and say MAC greasepaint stick in black (whatever they named it) bc i can either line with it, smudge it out, or make a hard statement with it and it’s easy and stays on forever.
i liked maui wowie by urban decay for “sweep once and walk away” use.
MAC’s phloof! or dazzleray (dazzlelight? i cant remember right now) would be good too to “wake me up”.
Anything duochrome–let the complexity of the color do the work that blending multiple colors together usually achieves!
Urban Decay’s Half Baked
Hmm. I don’t really have one that I specifically go to, but when I want to be quick, I almost always go for my Naked 3. From those, I mainly use Nooner, Liar, Mugshot and Darkside. And Limit. And Blackheart. And trick. And strange. Yeah, I like Naked 3.
NARS Alhambra eyeshadow duo!
Any e/s from Dior’s Beige Massai quad or Mac Vex or Groundwork Paint Pot or Constructivist Paint Pot. Also fast and very effectively are Laura Mercier’s Cream Eyeshadows and the Korres Volcanic minerals twist eyeshadows ( a dupe for the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks and for 6.5-10. 5 euros!)
Maybelline Inked in Pink tattoo gel. It goes on nicely with my finger too. *^_^*
If i’m in a rush I usually just stick with either a matte cream, a highlight shade, or a matte brown to go in the crease. My favorite for a nude cream would be Blanc Type by Mac, for a highlight type shade I usually go with Shroom, and for a matte brown wedge is really nice. Either of these 3 work well in my opinion for a quick sweep of eyeshadow and a minimal eye makeup look.
Either nothing, or Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze.
This is no hypothetical, I use it all the time in a rush! Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Lots o Latte.
I don’t have one answer, it’s situation dependent. If I’m going for the not-wearing makeup look, it’s MAC Wedge, otherwise it’s MAC Outre (LE, I think , but I bought extra when it came out). Outre makes my blue eyes BLUE.
Clarins Matte shadows in round jars. I love Rosewood and Earthy
Clinique daybreak! A bright champagne shade,
Burberry Pale Barley.
Urban Decay Half Baked
MAC All that Glitters!
Mac All that Glittlers, Mac Woodwinked, Nars Lola Lola, Bobbi Brown Rose Gold
Most days I only wear one eyeshadow – if I wear makeup at all, I have been a bit lazy lately because my hair isnt right. Anyhoo- I normally go for something neutral aka something coppery/chocolate/golden/bronzey. Or if I am really feeling pretty and colorful that day, something blue/violet. I will get my mojo back soon :))
This eyeshadow will probably sound ridiculous since I have a feeling that most would go more “natural/nude” (and I took a peak at the comments and see that it’s true…) But I would grab Urban Decay’s Psychedelic Sister. I have actually already used this countless times when I was short on time running late! I just can do a superfast smoky eye very dramatic, or do any darkness of the smokey eye by not using as much shadow. Also, it can be used as an eyeliner, once again as dark or light as I want, on top lid, bottom lid or both or even creat a nice cat-eye wing with this darker purple. Also, you can use it to define your crease for a subtle “no makrup” look. The color really makes my eye color pop and I really do find it very fast and easy to use this shade in different ways. It’s definitely saved me a bunch of days! (I wrote this with the idea that we are allowed to also grab 1-2 brushes/applicators.)
Maybelline bad to the bronze!
Am surprised no one mentioned Burberry Pale Barley! This or Chanel Moon River Shadow stick!
Estee Lauder Twilight Rose, MAC Malt or Yaby Smoked Maple. Meow’s Morning Latte is great for a one colour look as well but a bit messy for me when I’m rushing around (loose pigments = disaster)!!
Sable from the LORAC Pro Palette
I have several go-to’s that I’ll reach for when I’m in a rush – most of them are cream shadows. Smashbox Limitless Cream Shadow in Quartz, MAC Indianwood Paint Pot, MAC Woodwinked, or MAC Groundwork Paint Pot are my current favorites!
The dark orchid shade from Dior’s 5-shade “Misty Mauve” eyeshadow palette. It’s my default from time to time.
Nothing beats the Becca Eye Tint in Baroque!
MAC paintpot in bare study. Won’t crease slight shimmer. For e/s kitten by Stila
The gold in the Stila Gold Glow baked trio
Bobbi Brown Camel would be my number one choice.
In a rush I skip eyeshadow but ive used Mac paint pot in fresco rose alone when I wanted something quick that won’t wear off and brightens my face some.
