Round-up: Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoats

Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat
Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoats

Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat ($18.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is available in twelve shades, and I’ve reviewed eleven of them (I should get the last one reviewed in the next couple of weeks!). For the most part, they’re a miss; they don’t do well on their own, and they are, at best, okay at layering. Some Topcoats were better at layering than others, but I often encountered issues with how the Topcoat would dry down over another lip product and make it “crack” or lift in places. Personally, I’d be more inclined to use a gloss for layering or pat on an eyeshadow or some glitter.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I think it’s great that topcoats are a thing – that way the matte lipstick lovers get what they want and the shiny, glossy, etc. lipstick lovers get what we want. Win/Win!

It feels good knowing I don’t even have to llok at these. I’m sure I would have been standing swatching for an hour if I hadn’t read the reviews of these. I would probably have bougth one or two and then been really dissatisfied and sulky. 🙂

The only one I’m even tempted to get is White Lie to use with CP So Wavy and anything else that I love that needs that teal glow. Seether is beautiful, but I have UD Wildfire, so close enough (esp. with Bite Gold!)

After all the reviews, Seether is still the one I’d be most likely to purchase. Unfortunately, a lot of these left something to be desired, although I love top-coats as a concept.

It’s so confusing when you and Leesha have different reviews. You’re the two people I trust the most when it comes to makeup. 🙂

Some of them look very pretty on their own but, for the price, I’m gonna pass. The formula doesn’t sound too hot to me

A pity — it’s a fun concept but others have better performing options. It’s kind of hard to witness UD’s slip ups; it’s like watching someone have an accident at the Olympics, you kind of want to look away.
