Round-up: Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Overview & Thoughts

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18.00 for 0.13 oz.) made some really big claims, and unfortunately, fell short of most of them. They’re not smoothing, and they’re not long-wearing; they’re more in line with your average lipstick–three to five hour wear and lightly wearing with some shades applying/looking smoother than others. I had the best luck with the brighter and darker shades in the range, while the lighter shades tended to have application and wear issues.

I got ‘Cherry Pop’ and ‘Love Pop’ when these first came out, and I really love ‘Cherry Pop’ and wear it often. For me, in addition to looking really pretty, it’s a red that’s relatively easy to wear; I don’t have to do a lot of prep or fussing, and I can touch up casually during the day without ending of with traces of red in odd places on my face. I’m not liking ‘Love Pop’ quite as much — the color isn’t quite as good for me, and touching up throughout the day can lead to more shimmer building up on my lips than I really like. I’m thinking about ‘Wow Pop’ since I like ‘Cherry Pop’ so much — another creamy, bright, cool color in this formula might be just the thing for me!

Not surprised, I was surprised at the attention the color pop blushes got. I saw them once in person and could not find one color to suit me! What I love about Clinique is their consistency. Instead of following the trend of frequent seasonal launches of LE products, the products in their line that are staples for some of us, have been there for years of re-purchases. When I go thru any of my collections (lipsticks, blushes, etc.), the same colors seem to repeat themselves with minor differences, if at all. It seems like Clinique knows that, and is confident that we will be back to re-purchase our perennial favorites, especially during GWP events! I’d love to see some formula updates, but not at the expense of tried and true colors. That being said, they did recently discontinue their Comforting Cream Cleanser, which has earned me mounds of GWP’S!! When I got allergic to Cetaphil, and they reformulated their natural eye makeup remover cream to a version that burned my eyes, Comforting Cream Cleanser was there to tissue off even the most tenacious waterproof products; I stocked up ad much as I could from various websites, but a lifetime supply I probably don’t have. Here, they should have been sticking with an old favorite, rather than dabbling in new blush and lipstick formulas that are lackluster on formula and color! How they are owned by the same entity that brings new MAC lines every two weeks, and turned Bobbi Brown’s classic line into a flavor of the week line as well, I’ll never know. Just please, makeup companies, slow down. Bring us new products when they really have something new to offer us. In the meantime, they came to the forefront of the industry on the merits of their individuality, market that!!

I personally loved the Cheek Pops, so personally that was a great formula introduction from Clinique, but not everyone will like the same things 🙂 I have no idea if the Comforting Cream Cleanser was popular or not, but it may have, unfortunately, been a poorer seller or else maybe they’re revamping it? Have you asked your local counter about it?
