Round-up: Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quads (Fall 2014) Overview & Thoughts

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Mutli Effect Eyeshadow Palette ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) is the newest eyeshadow formula and launch from the brand for fall. They’ve introduced eight quads–all are new and joining the permanent line-up–plus one limited edition variation (Poesie, which I do not have). The quality is consistent across the board; no quad scored below A- (two A-s, six As), which was very impressive. It is a huge improvement over the traditional baked formula of past Chanel quads, and it is more consistent than Chanel’s regular (U.S.) eyeshadow formula. The eyeshadows are soft and blendable, which makes them pretty easy to use and apply.

I purchased Tisse Venitien and wore it 3 days in a row to try 3 different looks and wanted to wear it every day since. It’s right up there with (and it kills me to say this) and maybe even a little better quality than Marc Jacobs Siren. Yep, I said it. I’m blonde and blue eyed so the colors are perfect for me. It’s 100% LOVE. The video of it on the Chanel website totally sold me.

I picked up Tisse Venitien, too, and I agree that it’s just lovely! Very versatile – I can do everything from a worksafe neutral to a date night smokey eye. I think it’s a quad that will really sing on cooler toned complexions in particular. (For reference, I’m an NW10/15 with brown hair and brown eyes with a touch to green in them.)

The quality of these was unexpected and nice to see! I think Rivoli was my favourite too, but I didn’t like it on my own eyes (though it was hard to tell because the mua at chanel decided to give me super thick eyeliner all around that made me look like a kid that raided their mothers makeup collection…)

Vendome is nice too, and might work better on me if the coral shade doesn’t look too reddish on.

Seeing that your personal favorite out of all of them is Tisse Rivoli, now I’m tempted to either get that for myself or a gift for my mom or sister for the holidays! I already have Tisse Mademoiselle and Tisse Vendome so I’m not sure I *need* Rivoli, but boy is it tempting, haha! May I ask, Christine, if Rivoli is your personal favorite due to the texture, the colors, or both?

Christine Avatar

Hi Carolyn!

Both – it’s the one that I liked best on me, had good quality, and felt like the one that just… resonated with me most deeply 🙂 It’s usually a combination of what I like in terms of color, texture, quality, finish, and sometimes being more unique or interesting can overcome drawbacks in quality.

I want Cambon too but I think it would be better for spring. Christine, do you have suggestions for blush and lip colors for Rivoli?

Mariella Avatar

I’m planning to get Rivoli next. I have Gabrielle and the cool tones are so wearable for me and perfect for fall. Now, having read Michelle’s praise for Venitien, it’s back on my “want” list (I’d sort of managed to talk myself out of it…alas, that didn’t last). So glad these are permanent – less pressure to spend a bundle all at once.

Have my eye on Gabrielle – I am NC/NW 20 blue eyes blonde hair – but I want two. Thinking about Posie but not sure – going tomorrow – For blue eyes any recommendations? They all look lovely on you-you really know how to blend them – they look like a painting on your eyes. So beautiful – best eyeshadows that Chanel has come out with in a long time. I do have almost all of the other quads – like I really need these – YES

Correction – I am NC 25 in foundation and NW 20 in concealer. Just got back from the beach and it was a hot one. Thanks for all your reviews

Thanks – I never did pick any up as my friend said she has a surprise for my bday so I am sure its one or two of these – will see after tomorrow – but I did discover Chanel has some new brushes out? Had no idea – picked up 2 – the blender # 19 and the small eyeshadow # 15 – which has always been available online but not in dept stores. Since these are permanent I can wait till next week – I hope!

I finally had a look at them in person, yesterday. After looking I swatched Cambon, and I really, really liked it. Good that it’s permanent so I have time to try to plan and think through my makeup purchases. As if I could, but for now it’s just on my list.
