Renee Rouleau Elderberry Toner
Renee Rouleau Elderberry Toner ($30.50 for 8 oz.) is a calming and hydrating toner that’s alcohol-free. Over the years, one of the musts in toner, for me, is to ensure it is alcohol-free, because toners that contain alcohol are often too drying and leave my skin feeling stripped rather than refreshed.
The Elderberry Toner is effective while being simple and straightforward. Â It removes any vestiges of makeup I might have missed during cleansing (particularly around the hair line), gives my skin a boost in moisture, and preps skin for my moisturizer. Â It never leaves my skin feeling dry or stripped, just clean, refreshed, and moistened. Â I’ve been using this at least once a day for the past couple of months, and I’ve used–at most–15% of the bottle. Â It’s actually cheaper and stretches further than one of my favorite toners–NARS Hydrating Lotion.

Christine, are you no longer giving grades to skincare?
Yes.
I am using the Body Shop Vitamin E toner and its quite good. Doesn’t strip my skin of moisture. It provides just the right amount of hydration.
I used to use this. It’s really good! I also like DHC Mild Lotion.
Toner’s one of those items I don’t like to spend much on. It just sort of feels like an extraneous step that’s just for the enjoyment of doing it, if you know what I mean (and I don’t remember to do it every day, either). 30 bucks for a toner is just… naw.
It’s actually really important to use a toner to bring your skin back to the right pH – other skincare products don’t work well if your skin is alkaline from cleansing (as it can be from water & cleanser). Skin should be slightly acidic at 5.5. Toners also get off residue from water (like chlorine) and cleanser, and make your moisturizer soak in better. I tried not using a toner b/c I’m on a tight budget, but my skin became SO dehydrated I had to go back to using one.
I think it’s great! Especially for the price. You just have to buy the right purchases 🙂
This toner sounds lovely, but I’m another one who doesn’t like to spend much/any money on the stuff. I just put water or witch hazel and an essential oil or two in a spray bottle and then shake it up before using.
When I was buying toner though, I liked Kiehl’s Calendula toner!
where is this available?
this toner is great! i also LOVE her ginseng toner – its heavenly!! of all renee’s products, her toners definitely beat out the competition. love her customer service as well 😉
I was looking for a toner to hydrate my skin since I can’t seem to find a good night moisturizer that won’t break me out(any ideas for oily skin, pls let me know!) I tried the one from lush but it broke me out. My problem with trying this brand is that they don’t guarantee their products. I want my money back if It doesn’t work for me, not credit.
I’d recommend Renee Rouleau’s Moisture Infusion Toner or Caudalie’s Toning Lotion. Renee Rouleau’s toners are really good…I’d say take a gamble & order because if you don’t like it, you can exchange & you are bound to like something in their line – (I personally ordered after Christine did several reviews & have loved everything I tried!) And there is a free shipping code right now – this is great since the shipping is $10. The code for free shipping is: FS2011
Thank you Christine for featuring my Elderberry Toner! I appreciate the opportunity! -Renee
Thanks Christine for this one. I have been looking for an alcohol free toner to put into my skin care again. I went through a period I did not use one – Clarisonic – really good cleansers that are ‘supposed to be 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 (for those who use make-up remover step first before cleansing).’ I will check this one.
