I usually prefer my nail polish to be cremes. I don’t know why, but I find they usually look nicer on my nails. However I do like a bit of shimmer every now and again, but I find they are less consistent when applying as cremes. I tend to wear them only on special occasions.
I think shimmery nail polish is absolutely necessary! Especially for ombre looks. Shimmer/glitter colors from China Glaze (Ruby Red Pumps)and Sephora by OPI(G-listen To Your Heart)are my favorite. Shimmer/glitter may be hard to take off when they have large chunks of glitter, but I’ve found that soaking your fingers in remover helps to get it off faster 🙂
I LOVE shimmery nail polish! I wear it all the time but its always such a bitch to take off! Not as bad as crackle polish, but still a pain
I mostly wear creams, but I do have some shimmery polishes that I like to layer. The only reason I don’t wear them more often it because they’re a giant paint to take off.
It depends on if you mean creams, shimmers or glitter. I don’t wear creams alone, that is too blah for me. I love shimmers because they reflect light so well and give a hint of something else. Glitter polish is just necessary sometimes to lift your spirits and that is what I put over creams.
I love, love, love shimmery polishes! I like creme as well, but on most days I prefer my nail polish shimmery. They are just so much more fun and have more dimension!
I love a slight shimmer. It’s much more forgiving than a cream and disguises ridges and nails that aren’t so perfect.
Shimmer polishes are good in the respect that they can hide a multitude of nail surface imperfections, like ridges. I tend to like a light shimmer because heavy shimmer reminds me of frosted lipstick – yuk. Also, many polishes with heavy shimmer have a problem with very visible brush strokes so if you have a less than perfectly steady hand, you’ll get lines all over your finished polish.
I love glittery/shimmery nails. Sometimes I’m in the mood for cremes, but I enjoy all finishes (except matte, which gives me chills just looking at it. Reminds me of nails down a chalkboard!)
As much as I love the Zoya Sparkle Collection, the ones that contain strips of holographic glitter not only were a bitch to get off, they snagged the hell out of any soft surface (like silk, satin, etc.). I added top coat after top coat and just couldn’t get it to smooth out. It also took FOR. EVER. to dry. I still like the holographic effect though.
noooo
but glitter looks cool :))
I love shimmery nail polish; the only thing that can annoy me with them is that you can sometimes see brush strokes…
I love to use shimmery nail color when I do my own nails. I think that it is more “forgiving”. (when applied by an amateur–me) For a professional manicure/pedicure, I think nothing looks better than flawlessly painted nails using creme lacquers.
If I could only have one finish of polish ever again, I’d pick shimmer. I hate cremes, and shimmers are pretty and peppy without being as hard to remove as glitters or as difficult to apply as a full-on metallic.
I can’t stand the brushstrokes of frosty shimmers…ARGH! And I hate when duochrome shimmers are super-sheer 🙁 I love how interesting and dimensional they can be, though. (I almost never can wear a creme-finish without topping it with some…razzle dazzle.)
I like shimmers mainly because sometimes I want to have a more interesting shade than just a creme but I am WAY TOO LAZY to apply glitter NP. No matter how “easy” the foil method is it still is not nearly as easy as creme or shimmer polishes.
I personally prefer a glossy or creme finish to my nail polish as I find it looks the most elegant and sophisticated. I have to be in the mood for shimmer, but if I am I’m particularly fond of polishes where the shimmer is a different colour to the base for a look that changes depending on the lighting.
Glitter nail polish I don’t get on with at all, though. I hate the gritty finish and I find that it looks tacky a lot of the time, unless you’re six years old, of course.
I agree with the ones who said that shimmer is forgiving and hides nail imperfections, and application imperfections! I have shaky hands from a medical condition and prefer shimmers because you can’t see the mistakes as easily as you can with cremes. I’m with those who said they don’t like full on frosty shimmers though. I might be old, but that’s just too old lady for me! My favorites are glass fleck. And I do like glitters on occasion too, even if that’s too little kid! lol
