Rant & Rave: L'Oreal

Tell us what you love and hate about...

L'Oreal

I love their Infallible Eyeshadows, Infallible Silkissime Eyeliners, and their nail polishes; those are the products that immediately come to mind! I also think that some of their skincare is underrated.

I love the Colour Riche Collection Lipsticks. I seem to always grab a new one from a different celeb but Eva’s nude is a favorite.

Their nail polishes that match the lipsticks are good too but that’s all I get from that line. I haven’t tried anything else to judge and don’t think I will really.

L’Oreal = good overall. My scientist friend in the biz (FWIW) claims they use good cosmetology science in their skin care and cosmetics. Makes sense. Big company, big resources can often make for good science.

I like a lot of what I have used by them. Right know I use their smoldering eye pencil every day, and their black Infallible thin liner is quite nice.

Love their Infallible eyeshadows and nail polish! Used to ADORE their Carbon Black Waterproof Voluminous Mascara, until I tried Maybelline WP Cat-eyes Colossal WP, and the later still, Maybelline WP Lash Sensational mascara.
HATE: That L’Oreal (and Estee Lauder) take over SO many other brands like a dang PacMan! It just bugs me to no end. I hate the takeovers/ buyouts, especially of Urban Decay and Nyx.

As far as I can remember, I’ve only ever tried the Infallible Silkissime eyeliners, which I do like; wish it came in more colors. Based on others’ posts here, am going to try out the Infallible eyeshadows.

Loreal is probably my favorite drugstore brand. I love their Infallible Pro-Matte foundation (101-102 mixed), Infallible 24 hour eyeshadow, and Voluminous carbon black mascara has to be one of my favorites. I do like their lipsticks which are really reasonably priced. Easy to update your look with each season without spending a fortune…. in other words, leaves more money to be spent at Sephora, lol. I honestly can’t think of any rants… maybe better blush options??

Love their Silkissimie liners and Infallible eye shadows. Have tried a few lip products and remember them as being okay but didn’t wow me.
Hate: Their cushion foundation. I thought I would love it because I love so many cushion foundations. I searched for about 4 months and when I purchased I bought a couple different shades so that I could be sure I got the right undertone. I found the palest and coolest undertone looked rather gray on my skin. It was excessively oily. I know it is meant to be a luminous finish but this wasn’t luminous it was downright fry your eggs oily. I have very dry skin so couldn’t figure it out. Tried the other shades and tried mixing with other foundations and nothing worked.
Overall, I am neutral about the brand and wouldn’t search out anything to purchase.

Rave: some of their mascaras and Infallible Eyeshadows and eye liners were fantastic. Their skincare range is pretty good too. I have used it in the past and found it to be quite good. Their products are often on sale too.

Rant: Their foundations are generally yellow based and I can’t wear them. Their newer eye shadows are terrible and some of their lipsticks are really drying.
They are not cruelty free, sad to say.

I do not have many l’Oréal products (have no skincare products for instance). But, I love the quality of a few make-up items that I picked in the past years:

Primer: love their Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base (excellent during the winter time here in Montréal; I found it too heavy during summer time though); their Secrets Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer is a cheaper alternative to my beloved Laura Geller Tinted Under Make-Up Primer in Ethereal.

Blush: Visible Lift in Rose Gold (701): just gorgeous on my fair skin with neutral/cool undertones.

Lipstick: Colour Riche in Rose Taffeta (174): MLBB; Colour Riche Serum in Freshly Mauve (201); Colour Riche in Confident Coral (433).

Liquid Lipstick: Infallible Lipstick in Timeless Rosée (115); it’s s a dual longwear 2-step lip colour with hyaluronic gel. What I love most (aside the beautiful shade), it’s the fact that it’s not tacky at all.

I love love love their mascaras. I’ve tried probably half a dozen and loved them all. I’m also totally devoted to their True Match Lumi foundation. The Silkissime liners are my favorite drugstore eyeliners too! The original True Match foundation is nice but nothing more amazing than my other favorite drugstore foundations. What really sets it apart is the shade range. It’s the only foundation which has a warm/yellow shade actually lighter than me! Most drugstore foundations assume that pale people are all pink. I really haven’t tried anything from them I hate, but I also haven’t tried a ton of stuff.

I agree with you on the lipsticks! They are so terribly perfumed, you can “taste” them and if they are long-wearing lipsticks, you can taste them even longer. The same goes for Maybelline. If they’re going to put fragrance in their lip products, at least make it taste like cupcakes, not fake roses.

Rave: Love the Infallible eyeshadows!

Rant/rave: L’oreal I love your lippies and glosses but puhleeez get a better flavor than that plastic/vanilla nastiness you use in them.

Rant: I found their skincare to be a bit alcohol heavy and drying on my skin.

Their makeup price is a bit pricey for a drugstore (in my country). So I tend to buy local brands than L’Oreal makeup. I only repurchased (again and again) their eye makeup remover.

But I do love their hair care. My hair is thin, dry, easily fly awayy and super frizzy, but since I use L’Oreal, my hair tamed a bit and get better overtime.. there’s still minor fallout, but not causing dandruff/itchiness. I’m pretty satisfied
