Rant & Rave: Fall Collections

Share: Tell us what you love and hate about Fall Collections!

my answer: The only thing that bothers me is really that they launch so early — like July — so all of the darker tones that we often see in the collections don’t jive well with the fact that it IS July still. It won’t feel like fall until October in my area!

The only thing I hate about Fall collections (or any collection for that matter) is Limited Edition stuff — I’m looking at you specifically, L’Oreal and Maybelline (same company, I know). Drives me crazy, especially when the displays have only one or two of each item. The higher end LEs aren’t so bad to get a hold of, at least compared to the drugstore stuff. But it actually makes me very happy to see Fall stuff in July because I hate the NY heat and love fall weather!

I love the fact they come out in the Summer. I wear Fall/Winter shades year-round, and alot more so than the shades typically associated with Spring/Summer, so getting them in July/August is actually a positive thing. I tend to have less expenses in Summer, and once school starts in September, I can start saving up for Holiday shopping for the family, and for some of the Holiday sets, and since I don’t go for the Spring collections, my bank account is safe just after the Holidays.

As for those who choose not to wear these shades until the seasons actually change, they can still buy them, and simply put them aside for a couple of months. It really doesn’t have a negative impact at all, so I don’t have an issue with it.

Yep, early in the summer, like hey, it’s not clothes! And thinking of new shade range totally ruins summer as I want to wear new, darker shades asap in time I should enjoy the bright and summery stuff.
But it’s good to see new stuff earlier so you can see and get them early, bad thing is, in fall season you may want to use something different from choices you made in summer mood.
The collections seem ‘unite’ and don’t differ much shade wise. There is nothing much outstanding in them, every brand just copy each other.

Usually I don’t like fall collections. They consist of colors like eggplant, dark grey, khaki and deep blue eyeshadows and dark toned lipsticks. I just can’t wear or like these colors, because they make me feel depressed that summer’s over.

J Avatar

I like that they’re released a bit early because I’d rather not have to scramble to figure out how I want to dress and do my makeup for the season when it’s already cold.
The only thing I don’t like is that they seem to get a bit too heavy. I get darker colors for fall, but sometimes it seems like everything every brand releases is super dark and there’s nothing soft or youthful about any of it. It’s like anyone younger would look really off wearing them.
At least that’s how it always feels to me, I’m sure there are exceptions.

I live in SoCal. It doesn’t feel like fall here until late October. I agree Christine, seeing fall makeup in the summer, doesn’t inspire me because it is too early.

Fall collections are my favourites and Summer collections are generally the ones that interest me the least (lots of bronzers and sheer shades), so I find I’m always impatient for them to arrive. They don’t come out in Canada until August, though, so it doesn’t seem that early. None of the major collections have come out here yet and I’m almost bouncing off the walls waiting for them…

I totally LOVE everything about Fall collections. I do not mind them coming out in July. At this point, I’m already eyeballing and picking and choosing key fashion pieces for fall anyway. Besides that, boots these day are getting crazy sold out particularly if they are a hot item. You need to grab them early or pre-order so I’m very much thinking fall in summer. It’s my favourite time of year and the ability to comfortably layer clothing makes me happy… the makeup shades make me happy.

Barbara Avatar

By far, Fall is my favorite collection since they are filled with colors I go for.

I love and hate that they’re released early. I hate waiting for releases, but then I have to wait to wear them. So sometimes I’ll wear dark lips in September just so I can keep myself sane.

Fall collections are my favorites. I recently returned to the mainland after living in Hawaii for three years. When I lived there I felt like I really couldn’t enjoy wearing the fall collections as much. I’m excited to be living in an area that has all four seasons. I can’t wait to break out the dark, vampy colors with sweaters and boots! I’m still waiting to see what Estee Lauder (Tom Pecheux) will offer this fall. I’ve already got a few items though from other releases. I’m loving the oxblood color for nails this fall.

I agree they launch waaaaaay to early. I live in So. Cali where even thought the calendar may say fall, the weather says differently.

Daisy Avatar

I tend to gravitate toward Fall collections primarily. They’re pretty much exclusively what I wait for during the year, with summer collections usually being the ones I’m least intrigued by. I don’t mind the early launches and I definitely don’t wait until the “appropriate season” to begin playing with any Fall hauls. 🙂

I don’t get the whole “Let’s release Fall in JULY.” It’s still blazing hot, too hot for what’s released and it seems like collections get cobbled together: your Spring/Summer gets mixed up in displays with the new Fall stuff. Is it just me or do Fall collections seem to be on the heavier side in terms of formula? And then there’s clothing… Busting out the UGGs, leather and suede boots in AUGUST! When its still blazing hot in the southeast and then complaining about heat. Then wearing shorts with UGGs in winter and complaining its cold.

Love them!! That is when I am most likely to find the browns,,plums and nudes that look the best on my redhead, green eyed, pale skinned complexion!! I got really brave this summer and ventured into some true nudes, the ones that make your lips pale, not just natural colored!! But I still love the look of a warm, deep lip. Let alone need eyeshadow ans blushes to match. Yes, I need Fall collections, but I’d love it if they came out in the fall. I feel like I just got started on summer!

It’s the fickle marketing world we live in. I love Fall collections in July. It fits within my annual July birthday haul, the Fall color collections are basically made to complement NYC weather and it gives me something to look forward to for the Fall. Its the makeup lovers version of Christmas in July and I love it!

becca Avatar

I too think it’s ridiculous the fall collections come out in july. What’s even more upsetting is that most are limited edition so by the time it actually is fall many items will be sold out. I could buy early and just put it away until fall but I like to use things right away.

Celine Avatar

I honestly couldn’t agree more! As much as I love your blog, I have to admit I wont even read Fall reviews until it gets closer to Fall. I just want the Summer feeling to last as long as it can!

I currently live in the southern hemisphere and I grew up in the tropics. I have absolutely no understanding of “seasonal colors”. It doesn’t help that I’m not afraid of colors (or wearing certain colors on the “wrong season”, see my previous statement). I like fall collections in general, but just as much as I like winter, spring, and summer collections — with the exception of bronzers for summer, as I don’t really care for them.

On a related note, it does make me chuckle to see holiday displays depicting the stereotypical winter wonderland in Australia, since all I want to do is to hug my AC during that time.

erin Avatar

i hate that most are predictable with smokey eyes and nude lips and such. I love fall collections that do not feel so expected and such.

Jan Avatar

Rave the colors and typically rich and bold. Even if I can’t wear them, I often like how the collections look together and on others.

Rant: I would like to think they come out early so that people can test them before Fall hits. But that’s not the case. If one doesn’t commit to purchasing early on, the more popular shades/colors will be gone.

melissa Avatar

what i love they create more new products & colors for us beauty junkies lol , what i hate is it seems they haven’t stopped making the summer products yet lol, i usually wear what i like no matter the season but it is somewhat annoying when you just bought that perfect shade of coral to the public eye you should be wearing a plum now or along those lines 😛

Danielle Avatar

I agree with you, Christine. I do hate that they come out so early. And I will buy stuff just to put it away for 2 or 3 months. However, fall is my favorite season so I do get VERY excited when the fall stuff starts popping up. I would probably decorate for Halloween now if I could.

Jax Avatar

After the obsession with Coral/orange over the summer (I know lots of you love them but really not my colours) I was hoping for a bit of a change but the majority are still totally focused on Warm orange/brown colours because they are ‘good’ autumn colours

There are a few bits I’m interested in, Channel Hasard and Gri Gri, the Nars Fairy Kiss Palette, but I want to see them in person as they have come out very differently in swatch photos.

I was really disappointed by the Clarin’s LE Mineral Palette, it looked like a set of beautiful purples/plums in the promo photos but is just another set of brown/golds

Ehhh I don’t really care about what season a collection is part of because when I see a new collection, I just look for the things I can see myself wearing anytime, any season.

The only con about fall collections, is that the products are usually limited edition and made for only fall (I like to wear things for anytime, any season)
