Rant & Rave: Curling Irons

Share: Tell us what you love and hate about Curling Irons!

my answer: My only rant are ones without some sort of stand so it can rest on something when I’m not using it, and ones where the buttons aren’t placed right so it is too easily turned off/adjusted. My rave is they produce very pretty results!

Rant: I have yet to find one that provides lasting curls in my hair. It doesn’t matter what type of iron or supporting products I use. It confounds every hair stylist I’ve ever gone to.

Rave: More options are available. I got the TIGI deep waver (thanks to Phyrra), and the waves actually stay in my hair, even without product. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hehe, exactly this for the rant! ^_^ My sympathies!

I don’t really have a rave…my hair is funny in that it is really very low maintenance, nice and shiny without any conditioner or product…but you can’t heat it. I can’t even blow dry it. It just hates heat. It’s all ‘I promise to be perfect, but if you bring heat near me, I’mma cut you’… 😉

LOL

My hair is really strong and healthy, but it resists all attempts to curl it. Heat doesn’t work, perms don’t work, curlers overnight don’t work. I end up rocking headbands and ponytails a lot. The worst part, is it has zero volume because it’s fine and thick.

At least it’s not falling out, so I’ll live with my mediocre hair days.

Exactly the same here–I even got a super-tight perm (it was supposed to last for months!) and it bounced back to stick-straight in a matter of weeks. I once spent hours curling my hair for a photo shoot; by the time we arrived at the studio it was completely straight. Thanks, genetics.

I’ve got to look into this TIGI deep waver of which you speak!

Curling irons produce some of the prettiest curls but they’re so hard to use lol. I can whip up a head full of spiral curls in no time with a flat iron but they turn out a mess when I try using a curling iron lol. My hair always gets stuck or has dents from the clamps. I hate using curling irons lol

Rave – love the short term effect – gives me curls, bounce, volume, and shine
Rants -I used to curl my hair everyday, but it took a long time, and it eventually fried my hair. Since I stopped, my hair looks much healthier. Now I put leave-in conditioners in my hair, and it gives my hair shine and a slight wave/curl, which is better than nothing. But I will whip out the curling iron for special occassions.

I never use one or allow any to use them on me. Or flat irons. I have the kind of hair that, if I put it up on a bun for a while, will make my hair quite curly! At night it curls sometimes by itself. My mom has used every type of hot tool, minus flat irons, all her life, and she has beautiful hair! I’m Not sure what she uses, took-wise, but she’s in her mid-60’s and takes very good care of it! You’d never know she heat-styled! 🙂

Curling irons and I are not on speaking terms. I’m sure it’s at least 50% user error, but even when I had a professional do it she’d produce a single perfect ringlet and spray the heck out of it and it would still be straight again by the time she finished the next one.

Haven’t used one in years, just occasionally flat iron it now. When I did use one, the kind I loved had NO clamp, so no weird creases or crimps, and it had teeth almost like a blow dry brush? That bad boy gave my naturally wavy, thick, heavy, fuzz-puff hair gorgeous ringlets, dimension and shape!!! As for regular curling irons: I don’t like them one iota!!! I DO want to get a skinnier flat iron because my daughter does what Fancie does with it to make beautiful spiral curls!

Well, considering I do everything in my power to get my *straight*, I have no use for them… My hair is quite wavy on its own, far too voluminous (especially now that it’s above the shoulder), and thick, so I don’t bother. If I want nice, defined ringlets, I have a set of foam rollers that twist onto themselves that I ise on rare occasions. My hair curls quickly, and holds a curl quickly, so I don’t need the extra “boost” from a heated product. A part of me wants to try the In-Styler, but I can’t see using it enough to justify the cost.

Definitely try the Remington Ci95 Pearl wand. It provides nice, longlasting curls! And it’s not expensive!
I have been using mine for 3 years and it’s still in good shape 😉
