Pat McGrath Permanent Collection for Fall 2017 | WWD

The Details

Obsession. Inspiration. Addiction. Those words became my guiding principles, my manifesto as I brought this brand to life over the past 25 years. I wanted to capture, in a triptych of exquisite palettes, 40 legendary lipsticks, a divine dozen eye liners, five fetish-worthy lip pencils and one magnificent mascara, all emblazoned with my Hallmarks of Excellence, The Power of Transformation, The Power of Beauty; The Power of Makeup. This is the golden age of makeup. #patmcgrathlabs Unlimited Edition is my Golden Revolution.

WWD has an exclusive interview and write-up with more details about the permanent collection (not behind a paywall).

I’ve never really been tempted by Pat Mcgrath’s limited edition products since they are so far out of my price range…but I might be able to justify splurging on a permanent item after I have the chance to swatch! Those palettes look so tempting!!

kellly Avatar

Awwww, c’mon you can get this whole set for only about $1000!!!!
(It will likely be a pass for me, too! This stuff just does.not.fit. in my budget!)

Kat Avatar

How exciting! I kept waffling back and forth over the Mattetrance lipsticks because they got such good reviews (esp. in the nudes) but then they sold out, so now I get to waffle to my heart’s content!

$125 is just over the top to me. The packaging is rather striking and colorful but as far as color choice in the palettes..not woo’d much. For $125..I would want a few more colors in to mess with.

Tracey E. Avatar

I, too, thought the $125 was a bundle cost, not a per palette cost (though I just thought a single palette would be more expensive than the ‘bundle’). I’ll be interested to see the per oz cost when Christine reviews. Still, I would need a discount greater than Sephora can offer to purchase a palette if interested.

What a stunning collection! I like that there is the ‘suggestion’ of what lipsticks to wear with each palette – I can put a dimensioned eye together pretty well thankyouverymuch but I always get stumped on what lipstick to pair with it. Pat McGrath and ABH are on my watch list and are brands I’m contemplating incorporating in the next year. I love the aesthetic and marketing/ad campaign of both.

Dominique Avatar

Those palettes look interesting! These color selections are beautiful and a little different.Im so glad that it seems like there are some unique shades. The only one that is majority warm tones is the middle one.I bought 1995 Mattetrance and I haven’t worn it yet.I usually photograph all of my makeup and put pictures up on my Instagram before I use it and I have gotten behind a bit so I still haven’t busted it out of its gorgeous packaging!!Speaking of packaging the boxes on these are very cool.

Zoe Avatar

These look REALLY cool! I love the color combinations and packaging!!!
I don’t think I can afford them either, but they are definitely exciting.

OMG yes! These palettes look amazing! The colours are fun, and ought to be good with her history, and very usable. She has given us, based on these photos, at least one good transition, one dark for smoking out/ lining and a highlighting shade in every palette. Its amazing how many pallettes miss on details like this that massively up their usability. So many options for looks!

Is anyone else thinking its laid out like three ‘packs’? Looking at the lipsticks alongside, and that the mascara is on their three times? Looking at the shades I would totally be in for the top one!

Megan Avatar

Wow- those look amazing. I’m so glad that they will stick around for awhile too- I really wanted to get a bunch of the matte lipsticks but couldn’t- they sold out too fast for me!

kjh Avatar

Excellent. Not that I’ve gone there. Doubt I will decide to push 400$ on three eye palettes. Good move to have a perm collection. Her prices aren’t at the higher end of HE. You could spend more and do worse. She is a highly respected artist; if anyone warrants the price, she does. To me, any would be a splurge item. Hey, Pat, lose the sequins.

Prior to seeing this post, I decided I needed a new winter coat. Now I’m thinking I would rather spend the winter dressed in the tattered rags of a Dickens street urchin. Because I need ALLLLLLLL of this.

kjh Avatar

Hahahahaha! Massive lol. Made my day. Know what you mean. Think I’m coining a new phrase….almost guarantee s.o. Will appropriate it. You have Pat Mac Grath taste on a ColourPop budget!

Christina Avatar

The eyeshadows look quite gorgeous to me. I’ve only been tempted by a couple of things that she’s released so far, but not never quite enough to splurge on the luxurious prices. These palettes, though, might just push me over the edge to pick one up! From the swatches I’ve seen online, they’ve got a mixture of unique textures and colours.

Anne Avatar

OMG! I’m excited for this! Those eyeshadows are screaming at me! I’m very happy that Mattetrance became permanent. I have Full Panic and really like it but would like to own one of the nude shades but they sold out first. I like the dark goth colors but they are of limited usability for me. It’s not like I go out clubbing every night at 55 years old! Lol! Looking forward to the swatches of those eyeshadows.

Brenda C Avatar

I might have to eat kraft dinner for a while but I’m going to look hot while doing so! Very stoked that these palettes are going to be in my collection! The lippies have been my faves for the last few weeks, can’t stop wearing them.

Lea Avatar

Don’t hate me, but for as much as I respect McGrath as an artist, her line does not appeal to me at all. I suppose that’s all good news for my wallet!

Summer _Breeze Avatar

I want to get all 3 palettes, but they are SO pricey! They cost more than Natasha Denona. I am going to wait for reviews to come out first before committing myself!

Kristene Avatar

Pat McGrath products have never been cheap, really not sure why people are shocked over the pricing. I’m glad she’s moving to permanent products; I think eventually that may have some impact on pricing. When it’s limited, you can price it at whatever you want, because people will buy it. This should help taper it down a little, though I don’t see them coming down much. Natasha Denona is still a good chunk and people either buy or they don’t. I’m interested to see swatches of the shadow palettes. The lipsticks just weren’t grabbing me enough to purchase; as it turns out, I really just wanted the little diamonds in the bags.

MoMerrell Avatar

While I purchased a trio set, it went back to the store fast! those lipsticks ARE NOT holy grail. they are dry and clumpy and oh so horrible (for me!!) and that was my first ever Pat purchase and most likely my last. I would like to try her eye shadow but not for that price so it’s a NO GO for me.

Mo Merrell Avatar

I honestly did not like them. When i took them back to sephora the staff were excited to try them because they weren’t in the store. It was a mixed reaction to the formula. I’ve tried better formulas in much cheaper product. They felt like Burberry mattes but those are fabulous. For the price…no thanks
