Pat McGrath Eternal Eden Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches

Eternal Eden

Pat McGrath Eternal Eden Celestial Divinity Luxe Eyeshadow QuadPat McGrath Eternal Eden Celestial Divinity Luxe Eyeshadow Quad ($58.00 for 0.24 oz.) is another rose-themed release that included two matte eyeshadows and two shimmery eyeshadows (one is more pearl-like in its sheen, the other is quite metallic and shiny). All four shades were pigmented, long-wearing, and blendable, though one shimmer was thinner than usual and one matte was a touch powdery.

Pink Mystique

Pink Mystique is a brighter, medium pink base with subtle, warm undertones paired with much warmer, more peachy-gold pearl throughout that gave it a light, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single pass, which adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The consistency was soft, smooth, and not too firmly nor too loosely-pressed into the pan, though it seemed slightly thinner than most of the brand’s shimmery shades. It wore nicely for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.

The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base.

The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours.

Temptation

Temptation is a brighter, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, velvety, and finely-milled with some substance, so it had rich coverage that wasn’t prone to sheering out but was still easy to blend out. The eyeshadow lasted well for nine hours before fading visibly on me.

Earthly Delight

Earthly Delight is a darker mauve with subtle, warm undertones. The color appeared warmer and lighter in the pan than it applied. The base seemed warmer and closer to the color in the pan when really diffused and blended out, but it had more of a purplish overtone. The texture was velvety and smooth, lightly powdery but not prone to fallout or sheering out too readily. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for nine hours before fading a bit.

Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit is a rich, medium-dark plum with warmer, more coppery undertones and cooler, plummy sparkle that gave it a very intense, metallic finish. The texture was creamy–more like a cream-powder hybrid to the touch–with moderate density and a bit of thickness relative to other shades in the palette. It was intensely pigmented with good adhesion that wore nicely for nine hours before fading visibly.

Pink isn’t my jam, so I’d be passing on this anyway….but something about this feels uninspired for Pat McGrath? I can’t put my finger on it, but the shades aren’t terribly special and don’t look amazing in the swatches. This release looks like it could be from literally anyone.

Yeah, I’m feeling that way a lot lately with PMGL. I love everything I have of hers, but the pinks are so done. Just give us the blush palette already and please give us another Mothership palette that isn’t just pink and gold!!!

Absolute WL material! And that’s exactly where it went. Even though I just bought the ND Mini Love e/s palette, I definitely want this sweet quad, as well. Next month…..😘

Do you find that there are differences in quality in the recent quads made in USA compared to the other quads (like ritualistic rose) made in Italy? Or any difference at all?

I love pink, but even I’m sick of all the pink eyeshadows lately. Don’t even get me started on red, will sure be glad when that fad dies.

Temptation would look gorgeous sheered out as a blush. I wonder if it was intended for that as well – I’ve seen a few examples of dipping into the brighter colours and using them on cheeks. Gorgeous colours but not for me.

It’s a toss between which brand loves pinks the most: PMG or ColourPop – both of these brands have released so, so many pink themed palettes over the past couple of years.
Now to this quad – for a pink eyeshadow person, I think this one is pretty good. All the shades rate well and they are cohesive together. I think the inclusion of Earthly Delight makes this one stand out. It is the kind of shade my twin sister would love – matte and mauvey plum.

I have been wanting to try PMG for years but she has still not released an eyeshadow palette that makes me want it enough to justify the hefty cost. And now one that’s all pink?! Geez, how one-note. I love the Earthly Delight shade, too, if only this palette had some interesting contrasting colors.

I *LOVE* pink and I’ve yet to find a PMG palette that’s caught my interest. They’re all just . . . “rose gold” (aka shimmery warm peach). I want cool-toned and purpley-pinks and blue-based reds. Despite the oversaturation of pink and red palettes, it truly feels like the spotlight’s really just always been on peaches, coppers and dusty salmon colors 😒
People are calling for an end to pink palettes when the best pinks haven’t even gotten their chance 😿

This is on the way! I am late to the PMG game, so I’m excited about it. I got Celestial Divinity and I love it and I have 2 other rose-themed palettes besides this one. Although I was surprised she did yet another pink palette, I think this one in particular will look good on me because the pinks are cooler. It really says “spring” to me!

Hi! I tried to compare Nars Orgasm powder blush with Pat McGrath Pink Mystique eyeshadow and an alert appeared as invalid product. Thank you😊

Hi Amalia,

I’m not quite able to recreate this error. Do you recall what page you were viewing when you tried to do the comparison? Also if you could give provide extra information, such as, what web browser and device you were using that’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know. I wasn’t able to recreate the specific issue, but I made some improvements to the swatch comparison which I’m hoping should help. Please let us know if you continue to encounter issues. Thanks!

Lovely quad. Prefer hers to Tom Ford’s, but I’m not a quad person nor into roses, pinks. Nocturnal Nirvana is the only one that I still desire but since I am able to dupe three of the colt just can’t justify buying.
