OCC Mannequin & Rollergirl Lip Tars Reviews, Photos, Swatches

OCC Mannequin Lip Tar
OCC Mannequin Lip Tar

Today, I have two of the new Lip Tars from OCC’s spring collection, Plastic Passion. Mannequin and Rollergirl are both part of the original, matte formulation of Lip Tars, so they have no shimmer. When you initially apply Lip Tars, you’ll see a satin finish, which dries to a matte finish somewhere between a half hour and an hour after application.   I had no trouble applying either shade, and they both lasted awhile on the lips.

OCC Mannequin Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “Malibu pink.” It’s a brightened, light-medium, [very] blue-based pink with a matte finish. It’s incredibly pigmented, and as Lip Tars typically are, a little goes a very long way. It lasted for seven hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is less blue-based. MAC Saint Germain (LE, $16.00) is similar–a smidgen purpler. MAC Pink Nouveau (P, $16.00) is darker, pinker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Narcissus (P, $18.00) is also darker, pinker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Digitalis (P, $18.00) is similar–a smidgen less blue-based with an almost gray-ish cast in comparison. See comparison swatches.

Rollergirl Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant lavender purple.” It’s a medium purple with warm, pink undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had intense, full color coverage right out of the gate–you need such a minute amount of product to get opaque color.  Rollergirl lasted for over eight hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.  MAC Heroine (LE, $16.00) is a lot pinker and warmer (not even close, but I wanted to mention it as it is such a popular purple!). Illamasqua ESP (P, $24.00) is darker and slightly shimmery. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Belladonna (DC, $18.00) is cooler-toned and slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

1. Rollergirl takes me back. It’s a total ringer for Thrills gum.. that soapy tasting gum from hell. A Canadian thang?

2. Confused by the OCC Mannequin + Mannequin Lip Tars labels on the last 4 photos of the post. I’m guessing you blended Mannequin with one of the new metallic lip tars?

3. What are you wearing on your eyes in photos, Christine? Love the colours.

Brenda Avatar

Oh lord, Thrills!! I used to work with a guy from Winnipeg that would buy it every time he saw it – I tried it – ONCE. Soapy soap soap!!! LOL

I, too, like the looks of Rollergirl, but I’m wondering if it might look too similar to MAC Lavender Whip, a shade I like but rarely wear.
Also, I’m wondering if it would work to mix a bit of “New Wave” Stained Gloss into Rollergirl.

Carla Avatar

Since cool tones really work on me, I’m viewing both of these shades favorably, though Mannequin looks like it might be a bit too milky/chalky for my tastes. I really like Rollergirl, though, and it looks like it will fit right in with the “radiant orchid” trend.
I don’t know if I’ll buy it, though, since I already own shades like MAC Violetta, MAC Show Orchid, MAC Lavender Whip, and Lime Crime Poisonberry. I don’t wear purple lipstick every day of my life, so I guess there has to be a limit to how many I own, right?
Right? 🙂

I have a ‘thing’ for purple lipsticks so of course I’m hankering after Rollergirl. I missed out on Belladonna, so am curious – how does Rollergirl compare to Hoochie?

D Avatar

No worries! I pulled out my Hoochie and after squinting at it and the iPad screen, I think Rollergirl is much warmer. Therefore – sufficiently different enough to justify a purchase 🙂

I’m inlove with roller girl! I’m an absolute feign for any type of purple lipstick! When did OCC change their packaging? I like it! Very cute.

I’m new to the blogging sphere and I adore everything about your website! Very organized! Hope to be like you one day!

I like the look of Rollergirl! I was eyeing up Illamasqua’s ESP for a while but when I got to try it I was so disappointed with how incredibly dry it is. My lips are very picky and dry at the best of times- how do you think I’d fare with the Lip Tars?

Christine Avatar

Some readers have found the formula to be drying, others swear by it! A friend of mine can wear every lipstick that dries the ever-loving-life out of my lips and LOVES them all and doesn’t find them drying, but she wears this? drying on her. Go figure.

I already know if I’ve missed a couple days I’m gonna come on here and get excited/ depressed because there is new AWESOME products I want… the depression that I don’t ALREADY have it in my possession. As much research as I do how is it possible I didn’t know there are MATTE lip Tars now? I’m slipping!

Rachael Avatar

I know…my bad.. what I get for not reading the full post before commenting. Still excited about their awesomeness of the colours alone though!!

Rollergirl for some reason reminds me of Katricia that was discontinued a couple years ago. Only less warm which is good because as much as I like Katricia, it totally exaggerates the yellow on my teeth (which I can’t help because I’m such a black tea fiend).

Natasha Avatar

These look amazing! WOW! Not really a fan of the Lip Tar formula (sadly drying on me) and seeing those colours make me wish I could wear them..

Hey, I was wondering how Rollergirl would compare to OCCs Hoochie? The swatch looks kinda close but maybe a bit darker than Hoochie. I already have Hoochie so I wonder how it would look swatched side by side with Rollergirl.

Tara Avatar

How would you say Rollergirl compares to Hoochie? It looks fantastic on you (I think the grey-tone underneath the purple goes great with your complexion), but I was really not impressed with Hoochie’s pigmentation and brightness… and since I missed out on Belladonna and Katricia, I might stay with Make Up Forever’s 14 Pearly Violet from Rouge Intense as my ultimate purple.

I just bought Rollergirl yesterday, I’ve been looking for it everywhere! Luckily with the radiant orchid launch it was easier to find!! I wanted to tell you that this lip tar is almost an EXACT dupe for Lime Crime Airborne Unicorn! I swatched them side by side yesterday & they are identical. Airborne unicorn is the slightest bit pinker and more creamy

This is what I’ve been trying to find online. Thanks for the info! I’m looking to replace my LC, though this is my favorite color. I’ve bought so many different brands and colors that look similar until they are in the same lighting. Most aren’t opaque either, and I know OCC has great coverage. Thanks again!
